  • Does NS2 have a theme selector or color picker?

The licensing on that gets to really be a PITA though.

I was thinking mates mates kind of thing but yeah it could get complicated.

No themes. It has a choice of 8 colors for tracks and for timeline clips.

  • I wonder how much would have to be crowdfunded to give Matt the money he needs to finish off the audio tracks.

  • I would give handsomely, and I don't even particularly want audio tracks. Automation on AUv3 FX though, I would pay even more for.

  • Everything under the moon was recommended and offered to him by the users and fans after he explained his problem on his own forum, from subscription to donations to crowdsourcing to the Loopy Pro business model. I'm not aware of any positive reaction from him so far. I'm sure he has his reasons that exclude each of these options. Too bad because he's created such a brilliant and beautifully clean piece of software. (I'm reminded of that every single time I look at a Cubasis screen. 😉)

Yes. I don’t know the details of his personal life, but I know that if my wife saw me spend 6 years behind a computer while she was working, I’d have to get a real job. My fingers are crossed that in time, the Blipster will get back around to NS2. Who knows. I use NS2 for all my music production, so I might suffer from over-positivity on this.

There have been a lot of work arounds posted using variations/combinations of AUM/Audio Bus too many steps and none really worked well or at all (could just be me -user error) after some trial and error and some help from @wim and @espiegel123 what seems to work is rendering NS2 to audio via IAA via AUM.

    1. Set each track in CB3 up to 8 with AUM input selected per audio track
    2. AUM channel >input source inter app audio > NS2
    3. AUM output > select CB IAA port
    4. CB3 set selected track to record
    5. NS2 > solo selected track that you want recorded to CB3 track (unless you just want a stereo mix)
    6. Make sure all apps are set to sequencer start position 1.x.x
    7. AUM > hit record button next to CB3 IAA speaker icon and audio from NS2 should record in sync to selected CB3 track/IAA port.

Clearly not a perfect solution but atleast with the rendered audio I can work a lot more freely with recording live parts like vocals, bass, gtr. MTR just has too many steps for me.

I have found some issues where I have to quit all apps and restart the process but CB3, NS2, and AUm have saved states so that helps.

Note: Wifi and Bluetooth seem to cause issues with stability when left on, so these are turned off.

Currently in AB3 when selected record from CB3 icon NS2 is unresponsive and sequencer "freezes/flickers" stuck in loop between 1st and 2nd beat of sequencer clock. Don't know why wonder if I need to purchase IAP midi control module

I hope my long winded post helps, on a side note I am currently using trial of Loopy Pro exploring if this might be a better work flow for "audio tracks"

  • I know it's been said many times but for those seeking audio inside NS2, I'd strongly suggest playing around with Slate if you haven't already done so. Slate accommodates really long samples. It has a decent little audio editor, and some basic parameters you can tweak. Slate pads are beautifully integrated into NS2's MIDI editor which means you have a lot of control over when audio starts and how long it plays.

  • @ecamburn I thought i had read it somewhere before But can’t find it in my most recent search. Do you know how to sync slates sample start time with NS2’s sequencer ?

  • edited May 2022

Do you mean automating sample start time @joniqwest? Since Slate is a drum sampler and you're triggering the samples via MIDI, Slate is already synced to NS2's clock. When using Slate this way I think of it as an MPC

  • No was looking to see if Slate can “live sample” or realtime sampling triggered by sequencer start. some hardware samplers do that i think the toraiz SP16 and the old Yamaha motifs did as well. I have to check i think current mpc’s do it but I believe via dedicated audio tracks

He already issued a long post indicating the reasons. TLDR: NS2 sold 1/5 as many copies and did not provide enough income to justify time away from his real job and his family.

  • I have basically abandoned everything on iOS except NS2 and Drambo. I've moved over (back to?) Ableton with no regrets, but love having these two gems on my iPhone for noodling because they are always there and I can goof around with them anywhere. I feel no urgency with the iPhone, its just a thing that I pull out and continue working on whenever I have time. I feel like this is really the sweet spot for me and iOS. Its just too cumbersome to build full productions on, but perfect for starting or going minimal. I tried exporting stuff from NS2 and then work on it in Live, but...it lost its fun. NS2 is just a joy to work with on my iPhone and when I finish a song there, I am proud of it because it did it all in the box and got creative with how to make the sound I wanted to with just the things it comes with. Plus,... @dendy sound pack is fantastic. Really an amazing job of sampling and programming.

I have NS2 and want for nothing because I think I'm using it how Matt originally intended it. An all in box solution. Good luck with audio tracks, I hope they materialize and all your wildest dreams come true.

    CB3?
    Cubasis 3?

Does this allow to have the ns2 and CB3 playheads be in sync, as possible for Neon?

@tja yes it does ! I will try to post a video.

I didn’t know Neon could do it as well, there was so much focus on Multitrack Recorder but the steps seemed to be a workflow killer so I looked at other options with apps I already have.

  • @boomer Is 'Nimue’s Forest' 100% NS2, with Slate and Obsidian? It's really is a wonderful piece of music.

  • NS2 is the only music app that I delete from my iPad.

You know what I think for DAW's on iOS and about the hype around NS2.

  • @Pierre118 I just looked and there is one track (out of 51) with a few bars of a pure synth choir layered onto an obsidian patch. So I guess I lied. Other than that the only 3rd party apps are midi and audio effects. And thanks for the kind words!

  • Can NS2's output be resampled into Slate? And can slate do both time-stretching and pitch-shifting as separate processes?

    Thanks :)

There’s no handy resampling feature but you can of course export rendered audio and bring it back into slate no problem. Unfortunately slate doesn’t do time stretching. It does however have a “sample start time” knob that I find fun to play around with. You can still edit the sample of course, but there’s something nice about having a little knob there so you can make adjustments quickly. You can also layer 3 samples on each of the 32 pads. Its pretty cool but definitely doesn’t stand up to BM3 or stuff like that

    Thanks for the detailed answer.

I think that ultimately I'm going to end up back with BM3, but was just curious if it could resample as this would certainly take care of quite a few of the more simple audio use-cases.

Best thing really would be for some big company to buy Nanostudio and throw their weight behind audio tracks and ensure its long-term support. Who needs Logic!

Just out of sincere curiosity, can you give me an example, or even a few, of where a big company getting involved was a good thing?

    Roland and Zenbeats?

That’s a good reason for using MTS for iPad

  • Having just had my first proper play with Loopy Pro, I’ve decided @michael is the dev we need to take over NS2 if anyone is going to.
