  • is it possible to start a new song in Alchemy and have it not reset the sound that just inspired you to start a new song? I barely use the app so hopefully I'm missing something.

  • Painfully brilliant question.

Still at least 50% more that I'd be willing to pay. Clever marketing scheme by the company offering all these packages... and then the bundle that makes us think "but hey I really got a good deal cause I could have had to pay X"... but all the other great synths one could buy with the same money, not a very good deal at all IMO.

@Coloobar: That's harsh ;) If you know how many work and time is inside some Alchemy banks. Apps like Sunrizer are very cheap for their excellent sound etc. but you can easy create 100 patches a day. Some of the desktop banks for Alchemy tooks months for making the samples, analyzing them, creating the patches with all the settings, controls and remix variations. Of course it's just my opinion but when there is a synth out there where i spend more money on patches as on whole new synths.... it's Alchemy. A lot of this 5€ apps are great but useless.

  • Thanks. I want somebody to convince me otherwise :) I'm not discounting the amount of work that's been put into some of these Alchemy banks, and I'm not comparing Alchemy to inexpensive synth apps either. Since we're talking about sale prices here, here's a list of other synth apps and their recent sale prices:

    Nave $11.99
    iSem $4.99
    iMini $4.99
    Thor $6.99
    Z3ta+ $14.99
    Animoog $15.99
    Magellan $4.99

I could go on, but my point is I could buy almost ALL of the above synths when they were on sale for the price of Alchemy pro and the "all bundle" at the sale price. Z3ta+ alone has over 10,000 presets available for it (free).

@Coloobar: I got the full Alchemy last year for €99 (50%off sale too) including 1000 presets (8000 variations!). It might be still expensive but all my music apps together for over 400€ are limited against this. It's all about what you need and get for your money. At the beginning of iOS i always thought how amazing cheap all this apps are. But i spend also about €90 for Cubasis and Auria.... and now €180 for LogicProX. I have the feeling i get a hell more bang for this. All this cheap apps are easy to buy but together they are expensive and still can't do what i can do with 1-2 big VST or DAW. Then there is all that IAP in iOS which cost you 10 x the price of the app itself. So my experience it that iOS is not more bang for my bucks when i see it over a longer time. Of course there are amazing apps which even beat some VST in special areas like Mitosynth, Nave (maybe a VST is coming). You can get free patches for the most synth out there but for some it's worth spend some money. Also Z3TA+ ist just a half baked converted version for me....

  • OT: But Cakewalk have a sale on the desktop Z3TA+ at $49 until the 8th. Having purchased the iPad Z3TA+ when it first came out and being so impressed with it I bought the desktop version when it came on sale as well. Now I have the best of both worlds - can use it in both setups.

  • Z3ta on iOS is virtually identical to the VST. IIRC, only differences are custom tuning and custom midi patterns. It isn't even remotely half- baked.

  • Exact this... custom midi pattern. One of the major things i would like to have! And also i mean with half baked that it's not made for touch screen. On a multi touch device i want to change more than one knob at once. Also scrolling a octave up and down when i use scales etc.... there is a lot which should work better ona touch screen. That said, like it and it sounds great, really!

  • Oh right, I remember that argument from the FB group. It's almost identical to the VST, yet is disappointing because it doesn't make the fullest use of the touch screen. Fair enough, if that's a priority.

  • There are 2 bugs in this release: an intermittent "port unavailable" message in AudioBus, and a problem preventing Alchemy Mobile from starting in Garageband. Both of these bugs are being worked on now and we hope to release an update soon.

  • About the prices: we are not trying out clever marketing tactics to trick people in to buying something they don't need or want, because it looks like better value than other stuff.

The problem is that it's surprisingly difficult to get this type of information across in a short amount of space (which is required because most people don't bother reading the full text). So we have limited options for describing the sale, and we're sorry if you find it confusing.

  • @syrupcorp - assuming you have the Pro Upgrade, use this workaround to start a new song with a specific sound.

First, create a copy of the current preset sound via the User menu, save this. Start a new song (back to default sounds), then choose the preset just saved.

It's not ideal but we may add project templates in a future update to make this process a bit easier.

  • I'm sort of surprised at the harshing on Camel Audio.

Yes, you can totally by a lot of great synths for the same price of the Alchemy sounds. And you should.

But the Alchemy sounds are extremely well-constructed and curated. And each sound has an infinite number of variations that can be very quickly explored.

If you're on a budget, Alchemy is a stretch. In fact, I waited for this sale. Previously, I had sideloaded some other sounds with iFunbox.

But if you're trying to round out your iOS library, or you're the type of person that learns by appropriating presets and modifying them, and you have the money, I would recommend jumping on this deal.

TL;DR: If you're not convinced on this sale, you're clearly on a budget, or these sounds just aren't for you.

  • Yep Alchemy Mobile is one of the more responsive and transparent devs out there, I tried to clarify further with the thread title but limited characters etc. One of the best products available for my money

Thanks for that. For your team's consideration: templates would be cool but I'd prefer that whichever sound I'm on simply replace whatever track one's sound is in the song template. The default template is fine.

  • The desktop presets are 50% off too. Just purchased Cinematic Impacts on Camels site. Only tried a handful of the 100+ presets, and they all seemed to work just fine in Alchemy Mobile. The prices for the desktop libraries varies between €14-€24, so some pretty good deals to be had there if you wanna expand your mobile library. Btw, when I installed the two presets & samples files on the iPad/iPhone it added a second "Factory" folder, with some new material not available in the original Factory folder. Not sure why (or where they came from), not that I'm complaining about getting free "bonus presets" tho. :)

  • It creates for all desktop version extra folders. I have all available patches on my iPad and 90% seems to work fine. All the resynthesis stuff will not work and some others lost a bit of quality or sounds.
Cinematic Impacts is great. One of my favourites ;) Damn... i'm at the moment installing all this banks to my new Mac. This will take lots of hours with my sloooow net :(

  • Yea, I've gone through a bunch of the Cinematic Impacts presets, and they are pretty amazing. Focus is obviously on what the name implies, but there are other cinematic elements mixed in here amongst all the drums, hits, bangs etc. Like choirs, strings, staccato & pizzicato stuff, and some really nice ambiances/scapes. Along with the new Artificial Intelligence, this is definitely a new favorite library and a keeper. It's only €14 right now, I'm guessing that equates to roughly the same in US dollars?

  • It's this kind of sound you can't get with any other iOS synth. Since i'm focused on cinematic and ambient it's the right thing for me. My favourite is Steamworx. I hope i can create myself such quality patches in near future.... after finishing my second Mitosynth bank ;)

  • I'd love a 'drum sets' pack. I know the packs are more thematic than that but for making tunes with other presets, that'd be a welcome addition. I haven't purchased any packs but at the moment I only have the 4 included by default (or default + pro + signup for email).

  • Actually, as long as I'm being obnoxious and asking for things :)... I'd really like if the camera icon were always available on the morph pad with the pro upgrade. That way, at any moment, I can choose to save a copy of a given sound instead of dealing with menus. As soon as I tap it and set one of the pads, the app goes into 'save a copy mode' with the top bar changing.

  • Can we have a global search by sound type in the sound library?

ie: if I want a bass sound I should just simply be able to select 'bass' and browse all the bass presets from 'all' the sound packs together.

Please add this feature @ZenPunkHippy ;)

  • Agree with Mister Magoo on this one, unless there's already a successful (easy) tag method...

A browser like desktop Alchemy (tagging, searching, etc.) will probably happen at some point, maybe after Alchemy 2.0 desktop is released.

I'll suggest "New Song with Current Sound", it's a good idea and should not be too difficult to implement (can't promise anything, though!)

  • edited July 2014

@ZenPunkHippy: + 1 for a patch browser! Especially if you run the mobile pro with all the desktop content it's very hard to find something. I know you don't talk about it but i cross my fingers that Alchemy 2.0 comes this year :)
However, thank's for all your support here. Much appreciated!

  • 3rd on updated browser.

And thanks for floating 'the sound that inspired me' suggestion!

  • Anyone have luck figuring out the new Alchemy Mobile feature..."note erase mode -- easily edit your recordings?" I feel dumb that I have spent a lot of time with this app and I thought I knew its ins and outs; something new should pop out at me, and it hasn't. I can see that description under the New Pro Features section of the iTunes description. But I don't see anything in the app that reflects that ability.

Also, for importing yer own samples...any suggested guidelines or tips as for size limitations, sample lengths, or any other parameters that would be good to know when considering what samples to try?

  • edited July 2014

Up in the right corner, while you are in recording mode on a track, you should see undo/redo arrows along with an erase tool. Press that erase tool, and press any key (I think) while the track is in record mode, on top of the note(s?) you want to erase. Works like in Figure, iMaschine etc. A basic piano roll editor would have been amazing in this though.

Btw, I take back what I said earlier about no crackles and pops. I've never really used Alchemys built in 4 tracker that much, and never had issues with cracks/pops. But since the update I've been trying to do this short idea/loop using 3 tracks, and it seems basically impossible to do without getting crackles and pops, even loud bursts of noise out of nowhere baked into the freezed track isn't uncommon at all, amongst other issues (iPad Air, latest everything). I would only pay and rely on the 4 track abilities as a really quick sketch tool to capture an idea, when out and about and you don't have time or access to an iDAW.
