  • ChrisG beat me to it, yeah in the upper right there's a little eraser icon that you can toggle on or off while recording.

Thing is, in a drum track you have to do it all by ear as there is no visual indicator. Would be nice if the pads lit up so you could see what was playing. It would make it far easier to erase notes that way.

Nonetheless, great update, with the custom snapshots, etc.

Also, for importing yer own samples...any suggested guidelines or tips as for size limitations, sample lengths, or any other parameters that would be good to know when considering what samples to try?

I would use the plugin version limits as a guideline - being more conservative if you're using an older iDevice.

  • The AudioBus "port unavailable" problem is now fixed. It was an AB server setting, so no update to the application required by us.

We're submitting fix for Garageband bug today.

  • As far as erasing notes and recording goes, this app works splendidly with Cubasis and Inter App Audio. You don't have to limit yourself to 1/2/4/8/etc. bars, and the keyboard in Cubasis offers a little more flexibility for chords. Then when it comes time to delete a note, obviously you're dealing with MIDI so it's easy. On top of all that you can then use IAA or AudioBus to run your results through another effects app...

In case anyone was wondering. :)

  • ChrisG, and 1P18 -- thanks for that answer. LOL, I read more into that "feature" than is there; I did not even think to look WHiLE I was recording...but it is called erase....ugh! It is not a feature that I need nor care to try and use from what I just saw in the app. As 1P18 points out there is a brilliant way to do "MIDI/Audio" using Cubasis which provides for complete flexibility.

Telecharge -- Exactly what I needed and was too busy to find yesterday...thanks ever so much.

    Everyone--
    Cheers,

  • There is a 2.3.2 update processing for App Store release now. This version fixes the Garageband IAA bug, and also a rare problem processing some In App Purchases.

  • Appreciate you keeping us in the loop.

    Hi,

since the update I cannot load as an IAA node in Cubasis....

  • Hmm, that doesn't sound right - we tested the 2.3.2 update with various IAA apps and combinations including Garageband, Auria and Cubasis.

Did you try force quitting everything?

I'm downloading the app store update now to test.

  • It's working on iPad 3 with iOS 7.1.2.

Did you start Alchemy Mobile at least once in standalone mode, before trying Cubasis + IAA?

  • no problem here iaa and cubasis with 2.3.2

IPad Air iOS 7.1.2.... all is good! Indeed, time to thank you for the (only app from all i think?) movable IAA control panel. I know it's possible since a while but it's just simple and so useful. Other developers should do the same ;)

  • iPad Air latest iOS. I get "can't connect to Alchemy" messages inside Cubasis. After fiddling around, starting Alchemy first, then select it as IAA node in Cubasis, it connects and lets me record the audio, but I can't hear Alchemy while recording (using Alchemys keyboard and IAA transport panel). Cubasis and Alchemy also seems to disconnect a bit randomly.

I rarely use Cubasis, so the only reference I have is that all other synths I tried, loads up in the background just fine when selected as IAA instrument inside Cubasis (tried Nave, Arctic Pro and some others). Not sure why it seems to work just fine for some, and not for others. We are all on the same OS and hardware (basically)

  • @ChrisG: You're right. After trying it again, it failed to connect. Switching in the list to another app and back to Alchemy made it working again. I also have this with BM2 since the beginning of IAA. Then i have to start Alchemy on it's own, switch back and connect it again. This whole IAA is still a bit unstable in general. Also i often have a "no connection available" inside Audiobus. Again, restarting the app itself or remove and put it again in a slot works then. Strange.

see my profile picture for the message I get.

yes tried standalone first before launching Cubasis....

iPad Air all latest software versions & new Cubasis project.

force quit everything, checked in background (for ghost apps) reset ipad, hard reset ipad etc...etc...

as @ChrisG says pretty much the exact same here, I have to load it first in the background.

all other apps load fine, I tried....Nave,DM1,Funkbox, Final Touch.....only Alchemy is a PITA to get working.

even more noticeable when re opening a project in Cubasis and all IAA apps load barring Alchemy :(

  • Just to add....I've tried both disabled & enabled audio background in Alchemy. Various midi options inside Alchemy (it does list Cubasis, so Alchemy do see it). But Cubasis and Alchemy just don't seem to get along, neither via MIDI or audio connections.

But my experience with Cubasis and other apps is limited, I haven't delved that deep into MIDI and IAA yet. I'm waiting for iOS 8 to clean up some things. And a, hopefully, better sequencer from Wavemachine Labs. Cubasis menu systems are just way to cluttered and awkward for me to use without getting a headache,

  • Still can't reproduce, but I did run in to some very strange behaviour with Cubasis earlier - a mystery organ sound coming from nowhere ... spooky! Alchemy Mobile and other apps not working quite right.

Rebooting the iPad has fixed that - so I think worth trying if you're still having problems.

Yea, playing the internal Cubasis sounds from Alchemy works great. :)

Edit: Rebooting, making sure no process is stuck in the background etc didn't help. In Cubasis, when choosing Alchemy, I get the spinning wheel and after a while the "couldn't connect to alchemy" error dialog box. But, when closing out (or killing) Cubasis, and launching Alchemy, it's evident that Alchemy did load up in the background as the splash screen is delayed by a screen of Alchemys UI. So it loads, but something goes wrong between Cubasis and Alchemy after that, somewhere.

  • Just picked up Artificial Intelligence, nice!

  • Anyone recomend Dark Space?

  • Everyone will be different on this but my favorites are cinematic, ambient, dream voices and AI.

  • Everyone will be different on this but my favorite is Himalaya Vintage.

For the record; exactly the same here.

  • Is this only happening when using Alchemy + Cubasis with IAA? What about with other hosts?

Is Alchemy still working OK via AudioBus?

  • Launching AM via the IAA panel in BM2 gives the "Can't start app! Try rebooting your device" dialogue box. This has always been the case as far as I'm aware. Launching AM independantly first and then selecting it as an IAA instrument in Beatmaker 2 allows it to work properly. Audiobus continues to work great here

Alchemy/Ab/Auria is working perfectly (for me).

  • Damn them and their sale :)

I posted in the Xmas thread about umming and ahhing over getting the pro upgrade but never pulled the trigger. Now in part due to this thread, some of the earlier ones and a 15€ gift card from a recent birthday present I have finally caved and got the All Sounds Pro Pack just after midnight CET.

One thing I dislike about the app is that if you close the app and come back later it remembers which voice you have but not which pack it comes from. (tricky when your new to the app and haven't yet learnt the names from all 16 packs :) ) it would also be useful to have a combined page which is then broken down into type: Arp, Bass, Drums, Soundscape and so on.

Still I look forward to playing around with this a lot further, and I'll continue to debate about the Cinematic packs from the desktop version to side load into the mobile version.

  • For me 2.3.2 works fine in Cubasis if I have Alchemy open first, otherwise it won't load and I get the error message.

  • edited July 2014

Question to the people with IAA problems - was Alchemy Mobile always working with IAA hosts before the latest 2.3.2 update? Or has the behaviour always been intermittent?

  • I've never used it via IAA before.

I can delete and reinstall Cubasis later if you need a guinea pig on that (I don't have any projects etc in Cubasis anyways)
