Update is out. No specifics posted yet.
My MIDI AUs are back, hooray!
Edit: FWIW start up time seems significantly improved (~18sec instead of ~50sec for 3.0)
I always love a good bug fix update after a major release 😀
@MatthewAtZenbeats Hi, just tested the new update, still has long load times, Apple Pencil still doesn’t work properly.
FYI, ZBv3 takes about 25seconds to load on an iPadPro3, for reference v2 took only a few secs, Korg Gadget takes 2secs, Aum, Drambo, & Cubasis take only ~3secs - I have no idea why ZBv3 takes 8-13 times longer to load..
EDIT: Just completely deleted Zenbeats on my iPad Pro3, restart, reinstall - didn’t add or download any sample packs, after it crashed on plugin scan, it still takes ~25secs to load (I tested several times), Gadget takes 2secs
EDIT2: For anyone interested, I’m actually gonna transfer all my ZB projects to Cubasis3 - I’ve already bounced the audio out, just need to learn Cubasis - it looks pretty easy so far. Also, its not just the slow-a$$ start time of ZBv3 that’s annoying the f**k outta me - it’s also a lot laggier than before - just moving around different screens, etc. It’s a shame coz ZB was my go-to for quick ideas, etc, hopefully Roland can fix it, but I guess that’ll take a while. Thanx for reading
EDIT3: v302 - start loading time still f**ked beyond belief - just before it does load, it hangs/stays on a black screen - which still takes longer than other DAWs like Gadget & Cubasis3 to load
@MatthewAtZenbeats
I’m now seeing 1:48. That’s with all store items loaded except Jam Packs. iPad 8 iOS 15.5
Not here …
Thanks for sharing, that’s insanely long 😿 - If you have other DAWs eg, Gadget, Cubasis, etc - May I ask, how long do those take to load? Eg, Gadget for me loads in 2secs..
Ok.. showing MidiFX now.. seems the update was not through the App Store..
Thanks..
@MatthewAtZenbeats is there plans for Mackie HU support, especially for the desktop version, also is this update for desktop version also.
Don't you guys have serious issues with the piano roll editor?
It's super annoying
MIDI effects are working here. I had to rescan all plugins to get them to show. Load times are are still too long but I had submitted a ticket to Roland support on this and was told to expect this to be resolved in the next update. They’re a responsive bunch so I’m sure any bugs will be swatted.
It does all of those things. Sorry but I don’t have time to explain right now.
Maybe try turning your screen brightness up a bit? Agreed, the contrast of the vertical lines isn't as high as I'd like, but I can see them OK, and I'm usually pretty picky about that.
[edit] contrast is better with snap on. It can be a bit hard to see with snap off.
Wherever the entry point is, the bar, beat, and sub-beat are shown. Are you saying you need it showing above the grid lines permanently when you're scrolling around? I guess I can see wanting that. Doesn't bother me though since the bar lines are brighter than the beat lines. That's good enough for me, but then I'm usually working on fairly small patterns.
It does here ... subject to zoom level where displaying the full grid level wouldn't make sense (like showing a 1/64th note grid over a four bar pattern zoom.
Is Grid set to Whole and Snap turned on? That's the only way I can reproduce what you're seeing.
Can you describe that in more detail? It works as expected for me.
I did a re-scan of plugins before they showed up
Yes, in case of an 8 or 16 bar pattern it would be great to see the numbering above the lines
Snap to grid turned on, grid set to 1/16th. I select a note and try to move it left or right (by a 1/16 or 1/8 for example), but it snaps back to its original place as soon as I lift my finger off (or Apple pencil) the screen. Sometimes works, but usually not.
That happens to me if I hold my finger in place too long before moving the note. If I start moving my finger right away once the note is selected, it moves OK.
im sorry but what do you mean by this lol? writing it crossed out? my update came through the app store..
It also can happen if your finger drifts out of the boundaries of the lane you’re dragging in (up or down).
Sorry, must have missed it.. saw it in the App Store after..
Yep.. the Midifx works fine now..
Man, ive updated, but still havent opened it. it was my main DAW.. and then the hiccups really threw me off now im scared lol.. ok here goes. gonna test the update now. finally.
Gotta' say I'm getting into the Roland Cloud Zenology Zenbeats world.
I spent a lot of time the last couple of days using my Keystep Pro to play into Zenology Pro (desktop), Zenbeats (desktop), and on the iPad ZenBeats, Beathawk, Module, Gadget, TAL-U-NO-LX, and some Moog Model 15. Truly an embarrassment of riches and lots of great choices available on all of this.
If I was not so averse to desktop, the Zenology Pro is the way to go. Awesome sounds, The Jupiter 8 extension is the best synth sound I got virtually, except in IMO the Moog apps. The amount and variety of great tones available from Roland is ridiculous, and pretty easy to navigate via Zenology Pro. The Zenbeats stuff sounds great or very good. I'll have to see what I'm left with if I stay with the $3 "Core" monthly subscription.
On Zenbeats, I also really like the Drum Machine. Tons of great sounds and lots of patterns. Also got my hardware RD-9 drum machine to play into the Zenbeats Drum sounds -- though I would need to do some mapping if I wanted. But using the Keystep drum track into Zenbeats, or the Zenbeats own drum pattern editor, works just fine.
IMO, Roland has a winner here.
Again, we have an abundance of good choices here in our iOS world.
Thx,
Joe
I’m Quoting myself above 👆 to make sure this request doesn’t get lost in the thread.
FYI, The latest update solves a lot of the midi fx problems, thanks 🙏
But I’m getting a lot of crashes with Auv3’s when using the preset system. For example: with SynthMaster 2, I can reliably get it to lag, and crash every time I use the preset system with it. As you can imagine, this is a workflow killer. Hopefully in the next patch this can be resolved.

Dumb question. How do you inert midi fx? Expecting it near audio fx insert button but not seeing it.
Is anyone using Nanokey Studio with Zenbeats 3? If so, how well do they go together?
I’m still deciding if it would be a good purchase or not, I know that it’s perfect for Gadget and therefore it has some use for me already there, but I wanted to know how well it plays with Zenbeats before any decisions.
It will show up there after it’s been inserted. You insert it in the instrument window dropdown on the upper left. Not sure why it’s not in the same place as fx insert. 😎👍🏼
Yeah that’s hidden pretty well. Next hunt is to figure out how to record midi from midi fx.
Turn off Pre-MIDI FX. The MIDI in the pic was recorded from Rozeta Bassline
Thanks @anickt
There’s another update…
First startup after update 1:36
Second startup 1:26
Previously was 1:48 so going in the right direction. 😎👍🏼
It's just a generic controller and works fine. Connects easily with Bluetooth or shows up automatically with USB. The NanoKEY Studio's 8 knobs can be midi mapped to anything you like. To configure the knobs, etc to send different MIDI messages, you can customize the NKS with a Windows or Mac computer. If you use the eight scenes you can control up to 64 things with the knobs. The button+pad combination to change scenes is a bit awkward, but works.
There's no automatic mapping of the NKS like there is in Gadget. Overall it's a good controller. I never use the XY pad - I hate it, but the rest of the thing works fine as far as I'm concerned.
Same slow loading time for me 😿 & yes I tried starting it several times.
I’m gonna use other DAWs instead of ZB till they fix it - I’ve seen on YouTube, etc that peeps on other platforms, like Windows/Android are experiencing a lot of crashes, & other glitches since this latest update. Personally, the v.little time I’ve spent in ZBv3, has been a laggy slow experience, the complete opposite of just about every other music app I’ve used on iOS. I hope Roland fix it, but who knows how long that’s gonna take..
