Good one
Yeah, iPad is way more portable and powerful creative-wise but I will admit MPC has magic!
Whoa talk about sound experimentation
I used the silver MPC Studio for a while, which acts as a controller for their desktop software while still providing the classic MPC display.
Connected it to a Dell Win-8 tablet (i3), Win-7/64 Tower (i5, 3ghz), MacMini (2012, 2.5 ghz).
Software from Essentials 1.2 to several MPC 2.x versions).
The best results were with Essentials on the MacMini, pretty close to a MPC 2000xl and this sold me to the MPC way.
But I picked a 4000 instead of the 2000xl, accepting the challenge of added complexity.
All the other setups were more or less failure, the most significant aspect being the resource demand when (serious) VST plugins were added and the timing disaster caused by screen refresh when the sequencer was running.
The latter could be verified by switching the desktop app’s window into background. Timing improved significantly (!).
While I think Akai did a great job on it‘s current product range, it‘s not without problems.
Stuffing a full blown DAW into a sequencer running on a far less optimized version of Unix than IOS is almost calling for trouble - let alone screen estate.
It kind of contradicts the original MPC paradigm.
This ruled out the MPC-X for me, which had also been a candidate for some time.
Imho it‘s not too difficult to implement a „classic“ MPC in IOS and even provide an external controller... but it will be doomed by Numark‘s lawyers anyway.
(I really don‘t understand why Retronyms failed during almost a full decade)
Retronyms failed because they moved too fast from project to project. I feel bad for the people who bought the hardware for some of their apps.
The VAPE sold me on the Behringer Neutron. I think his review was positive.
Other than the noise, this is exactly how I look making a cake.
Dawless with miRack, AUM, and a bunch of synths:
Nice!
Yeah, I guess I have been DAWless for many years.
I just recently purchased Cubasis for my iPad.
Before iPads I used Logic and FL.
dawless for more than year .. never been more creative and satisfied ..
Thanks! 😄
don't feel bad for me: the latest iteration of iMPC Pro 2, and the Akai Element are fantastic together. Fully integrated, classic pads, pretty lights, the works, tons of fun.
ipad (with all the IAA and AUv3, Files app), and a akai controlle
$100-150 on ebay
retronyms has kept up their bug hunt on this soft, and are responsive
Nice! Have you replaced the arm of your sofa with Elektron gear?
lol no it's just lies there :-))
That’s great. While totally abandoning apps like Looperverse which they actually sold a hardware pedal for.
Wowzers!
Don’t you miss having a keyboard? How do you even enter notes?
What style of music do you create?
then there was
that Wedge thing.
lesson seems to be, the akai gear is cool, because akai
I may have to give the Element & iMPC 2 combo a try. I have a Padkontrol but it’s note repeat isn’t sync’d.
I feel this in my soul lol
I can pluck out some notes here and there, but I can't play a full song. Only make them lol
not much, i'm not keyboardist and simple melody/chord can be made using that buttons too in most cases i still edit individual steps/notes manually (adding variations, timing shifts to add groove, parameter changes, etc)
but i have arturia keystep and sometimes i connect it during composition phase if i want to record something more complex
like this
or here one with more mininimal setup
Sounds great!
if you do, let me know, there’s a tip or 2 i can
share
Cool music! Thanks for sharing.
I know absolutely nothing about those type of boxes and MPC. I guess you build patterns before and then you play them live ?
That’s one way! Or you can play live or live loop. It’s quite fun 🤩
yeah that's my case .. i basically mute/unmute tracks and tweak parameters ..
To get analogy with iOS - MPC is like Beatmaker3, Elektron devices are more like Drambo just not modular but with fixed architecture
Thanks :-)
Thanks for the analogy but I does not help me. I don't own Drambo 😱 and I don't use beatmaker3. I got BM3 free but I never really used it since I don't make rap music.
You can make anything with BM3. It’s really just a daw with mpc pads interface contained within. But there’s also a piano interface. And it has audio tracks and AU and all that stuff.
