  • The mentality and layout behind the pizza is so intuitive and fun to use compared to linear MIDI editing . Totally worth owning this app, so I hope you all got it this week

My only thing is arrangement and/or randomization.

I want to be able to lay a bar or two down and have beat scholar copy or add a randomized pattern based on that: is the possible ?

Otherwise when you are making a song , what’s the best way to “set it up” for intro, verse, bridge , chorus etc? I’m looking for a tutorial ; modalics has great tutorials

I wish this dev much success with Beat scholar

I'm not sure why that happens yet, but I will investigate.
It's possible that reinstalling the app/restarting the machine would solve it but I'm still unsure what the issue is - possible some corrupt caches if you've used the trial on the same machine, or something.

Hello, this happened to me two days in a row. I always shutdown my iPad at night. I did do the re install. I clicked on the trial at first but did not wanna to sign up. So I bought it instead.

Would you mind please sharing an image of the exact window you're getting with me?
Please send it to [email protected]

    Thanks!

It’s this screen. I will send it to your mail too.

Thank you again for sharing that.
What I did notice that this screenshot has the old/outdated price.

That hints that the last successful connection to the App Store wasn't made in the last couple of days.
I suspect deleting the app, then reinstalling (and maybe restarting?) should solve this issue.

I took this screen shot from earlier in the thread. Since I got the popup this morning before writing in this thread and it had the new price.

Sure you can copy bars. I covered that and everything else in my one hour YT walkthrough btw

Haha... It is a bit long, but there is a lot going on in this app, to be fair, much more than there seems to be at first glance

  • I watched your walk thru again and the features I asked about were there but does randomization base its choices of the genre or the users set pizzas ? Or is it just random?

And when you do song mode, you trigger it from a timeline or scene mode when you’re arranging the song which is a great novel approach to it.

Anyway. So far I love it and I’m sure updates will be awesome. Congrats on this app @eyalamir

There are some genrespecific randomisationpresets, like traphats for example, but if I understand correctly, they're based on the possible numbers of slices, chosen sounds and density. You can make your own and save them, too, I think. I don't think it takes into account, what's already there, still loads of control over the randomisation:).

  • Yes: the randomization is phenomenal

But Ok so if you load a randomization preset of a genre, then remove some slices to edit to your liking, and then re randomize (like Gavin did with the “fill empty” and space ratios just for example) will it carry over the genre randomization preset idiosyncrasies?

    Does this make sense?

I think the randomizer is just based on pure random within the parameters u define, like which drum pads can be used, number of slices etc, no?

If this is how @eyalamir intends it to work that’s fine, will just roll with that, but it is quite an unusual method of interaction, so worthy querying i think. It wont spoil my enjoyment of this great app either way 😬

This is just a limitation of how menus work in the cross platform framework we're using.

It's not something I really love TBH, so it's likely that at some point we'll replace those menus with better ones we'll write and design from scratch that have better touch experience.

    I love your drum instrument
I think it’s the best and most creative so far that I’ve yet to work with

The menu changes would be great, that’s all I’ve seen so far. Also for some reason sometimes my DAWs don’t respond to changing patterns by midi key trigger. Any reason or do I have to enable something for A-B transitions?

Does modalics have any place to Download drum patterns ? Or if not will you consider like a patch storage.com type of user library ?

Yes it is excellent on two counts ... it's possible not only to select which aspects of the patch will be randomised, but also by how much. Also, it's possible to save randomisation presets, which is a real inspiration and time saver e.g. if you just want to randomise velocity (and there are factory presets for this already) you can do that.

Great job @eyalamir! Other devs take note ...

It is an amazing drum instrument ; I was hoping they add a drum pattern exchange or something too (besides the menu update )

I still do need to know are patterns changing upon MIDI note triggers for others because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t change

Should I enable or disable something to test or adjust it?

*FIXED - it was middle c discrepancy

  • I was just wondering if anyone who is a beat scholar fan would like to post some beats to share.

I am still learning how to write beats but I’m looking for all styles: Hip hop, EDM, Metal, Djent, Trap, Electronic.

Basically everything eyalamir and modalic put as presets, i was hoping to get some more of each genre presets.

Im also looking to learn how to make my own patterns and grooves so if you have anything to help especially for metal.

Would it be alright if I started a thread for that in patch sharing?

Yeah go ahead! I have a couple I could probably share when I get some time.

  • There is a link to download the pdf all the way at the bottom
    https://shittyrecording.studio/book.html

  • @ecou i appreciate the links but I was hoping to see some pizza slicing presets.
do you have beat scholar ? (Like do you know what I’m referring to with the slices?)

I bought it about a week ago. I been enjoying so nice pizza slices 😉

I do think programming the beats yourself from the book will teach a lot about beat programming. I am actually trying a bunch of them.

You have a good point. I’ll try to transform the linear boxes into slices …. Thank you

    It’s fantastic for ZR1 though !

It’s actually pretty easy. Their is 16 squares, 4 section of 4. You slice the pizza in 4 when you need more the the first of 4.

  • Polymeters please!! Why such obvious thing was missed...I dont want to use separate instances😭

  • So its been a while on this release! Haha

    Its currently 20$

Is everyone still using it? I have patterning 3 and they obviously have similarities but BS seems to be like multiple P3s in one app from the stuff I’ve seen?

  • @reasOne I still have it installed, but I don't use it much. It's a fun little app, but it appears to be abandoned on this platform (not sure about desktop). I don't think it was lucrative enough to be worth their while.

I was wondering if it was still supported.
I see they have a 14 day free trial.
I signed up and it said, you have 7 days remaining 🤣 that’s not a great sign.

    Maybe they’re having a 50% off sale?

Thank you for letting us know.

Beat Scholar is still supported, but the desktop version, where most of our customers are, is definitely getting more frequent updates.

Those 14 days trial display are a bug and it should be changed, it's 7 days currently.

Awesome, i am enjoying the trial and since it is being supported i do plan to purchase the app. Its quite fun and simple to get an amazing thing going on it!
Is the price of 19.99$ the normal price??…. should i choose to purchase after the 7 day trial ?
And thank you for your response!

  • I haven’t used another drum sequencer since it was released. I wasn’t aware that the desktop had more frequent updates.

It also definitely has some of the best presets I’ve ever seen. Make sure you make use of the ‘A|B’ button. Many presets have multiple patterns. I have learned a lot about drum sequencing by going through the presets. Then when you start stacking instances (there are some instructional videos on this by the preset developers) things can get genuinely mind-blowing.

I’ll for sure scope out the presets and the AB stuff , thank ya!

Can you add swing to individual slices??? Instead of to the full track?

Also adjusting the global swing is a pain to get to an exact number or back to zero, but maybe I’m missing a menu or something.

But so far in my 15 mins I’ve had to create a lil beat on it i have figured out the basics and def enjoy the app a lot
