Incredible work getting a nice iOS-focused addition to the main manual up so quickly @eyalamir, thank you so much!
Thank you!
Great, thanks. It also exports time signature changes, which is very cool:
I did not use the standalone, but only saved a couple in the midiFX au version. Those are still there and work.
I had an AUv3 instance open in Loopy Pro with a couple new presets, when I upgraded and went back into Loopy, it was on the ‘this is beat scholar’ preset and my pattern and kit presets were gone. Not too big a deal as it was only a couple patterns, but I hope it’s fixed going forward!
Correction: the kit presets are there. The patterns are not.
I found that I was able to browse to the pattern presets to add them back, but now the folder has disappeared.
Yes this is intentional - you can now export and import your presets/kits/Randomizer presets from the preset menu->User Data
Shout out to @eyalamir for being a super responsive and awesome dev! Makes me even more happy I spent the money on the app.
@eyalamir I would appreciate having access to the folder so I can delete presets or rename them.
Trust me, nothing I'd like more than giving it to you.
However - it seems like Apple's sandboxing rules do not allow that from the AUv3 if you want to have preset sharing with the standalone app.
They allow reading from "On My iPad" in the standalone, but that would mean no way to share it with the AUv3.
So our current solution is to let you export data into a folder (could be into iCloud, etc) and then import it back in. This is somewhat of a compromise, but hopefully better than the previous compromise, where only the standalone worked properly and there was no sharing due to the AUv3 not allowed to read from outside of its security group.
If a better solution will somehow come up, I will be happy to add it - I've been researching this topic for quite a while now, discussing with other devs, etc.
Absolutely or give us the option in the menu to delete + rename.. please..
Can we also keep persistent preset names when saving?
e.g. so we can save Beat 01, Beat 02 etc… by just deleting the number + not having to type the name over + over.
Thanks
EDIT: I was typing as you were replying to having access to the folder.. menu options then?
I also had a stock sample stop playing back. When I looked into it, I found that the stock sample selection (and icon) had disappeared. I was able to get the option back by loading a user sample, then removing it.
FWIW, this happened after zooming in and adjusting velocities on slices of a different stock sample. No user samples were being used.
We could add options, I guess, but I'm afraid at some point file management could get too confusing...
The sandboxing rules essentially mean that you either get a simple "preset menu" where everything is shared (current solution), or save/load to a custom place in the drive which then can never appear in the menu in the AUv3.
mixing them together would easily get complicated and have people lose track of where their presets are. I'll keep investigating this in the dev community in hopes that a 'cleaner' solution will be found.
@eyalamir Maybe your app is different somehow, but other apps have options like automatically giving a new preset, project, session, etc. a unique name, updating them with new saves, warnings about overwriting or losing changes, access to the folder where they are located, and so on.
Unfortunately Apple doesn't allow that access for the AUv3 from the research I (and a few other devs I'm in communication with) have done.
Apps that are standalone only are easier to handle in that way, they get access to "On My iPad", etc.
Anyway, those files aren't hidden from you, you can always hit the preset menu->user data->export and see them, or import them back in if you've made manual changes. I realize that isn't a perfect solution, but this is currently the only solution that we've found so far that would also make AUv3 flow work well.
Regarding more flexibility with the save menu, override warnings, unique names, etc, these are things we'd like to add and might add them in the future.
@eyalamir
So as it is now, how are we supposed to rename and/or delete our individual presets?
I just exported my user data from standalone app (also tried it with the AUv3) to the files app + it was zero kilobytes in size. I have at least 10 presets so there should’ve been a few bytes of data. If I wanted to transfer, backup or share these presets, I wouldn’t be able to.
We've just pushed a new update to the app store, version 1.4.11 which will probably go through review sometime later.
That update, along with other fixes (like the sample loading freeze issue @Robin2 reported) will add "Save to File" and "Load From File" to both presets, kits and Randomizer presets, as well as "Save To Menu".
That will allow you to just save/load to anywhere on the drive and manage the files yourself. We still can't import those back to the shortcut menu in a way that works with AUv3, but you can of course import a preset into the menu, if you want.
That would also give you override warnings, etc, from the system file browser.
Hope that helps.

What‘s wrong with me? Couldn’t made a single hit yet…
(Edit): I can‘t even buy it. (No IAP restriction). Nagscreen keeps nagging only…
Sorry to let you guys know this, but the new (just released) version isn’t working so well for me. Something weird happens when you press the randomize button…the menu isn’t showing up for me, and it makes it so I can’t really get back to normal mode…I think it has something to do with having the pattern or random menu open on the sound page.
I'm testing it right now and can't seem to get the randomize menu to not show... I did find that if you open the randomize menu in the sounds screen and then switch back to sequencer, it closes the menu but the randomizer is still active and the drum selection overlays also remain. we will fix this in the next update.
Can you explain exactly what happened that made the randomizer menu stop showing all together?
Hi, I can’t get it to not open anymore of quitting the app and restarting. Maybe it was just related to my fingers or the ipad at the time, because several buttons weren’t activating. I’ll keep trying at let you know. Thanks!
I've had the Sample Selector disappear a few more times. It also sometimes gets stuck where the arrows won't work, but pulling up the sample menu and selecting from there will unstick it.
@eyalamir @OrLub Problem I reported regarding loading samples does seem to be fixed in latest version, thanks.
Feature request for some point in the future: I can understand why it’s not there for drum samples but when using with melodic samples, it could be useful to have a Release parameter as well as Attack for samples.
Not sure how it would be implemented but “pizza slice merge” would be a neat feature to have, where subdivisions could be merged to simulate dotted notes. For example, with a 4x subdivision, merge the first two pizza slices to leave a half slice and two quarter slices.
Hi @eyalamir … love Beat Scholar! Definitely considering a purchase.
I’ve found a consistent bug in the menus in trial version. Maybe this has been reported or fixed already, so please ignore if so.
This happens with 100% consistency, on the Preset menu, Kit menu - I haven’t tried others.

@OrLub
Am I the only one who can‘t run Beat Scholar? What am I missing?
Hey -
What do you mean? What happens when you tap "Start Trial"? or the iPad price?
Hey
it happens that what you see in the gif I made - nothing. Only the link to your website has a function. I reinstalled it and I even switched the device off and on gain ;-)
Gif is from standalone mode, in AUM I hear a beat running but the screen ist the same. With the same non-response…
I checked turning iap restrictions on and off again, I can‘t buy it ;-)

Huh.. I'll try and look into it.
This is the only report of this issue we got so far.
Do you have a Laptop/Desktop Mac with the same app store user that you can try and activate with?
