Drambo ruined my GAS

I love my music gear and am always interested in new gear.
However Drambo ruined my GAS, every time I feel the urge for new stuff I open Drambo and
all the GAS is gone.
Even when I think about going to my little studio area to make some loops, I think I can just sit here on the couch and open up Drambo and have a little jam. Why bother turning and configuring al the gear, while I have my tablet/iphone right here.
At this point I am not sure if I am happy to be liberated from GAS. Even sometimes thinking about selling some gear and go all-in on IOS music making.
Can anyone relate and what did you do?

  • Yes. I get that a lot.

I’ve had all sorts of hardware in the past and always gravitate towards an easier and more flexible solution.

Drambo is so well thought out. I’m only now realising how great balance @giku_beepstreet has struck here.

I never saw myself as a ‘modular’ guy but then find myself trying all sorts of shit here. It is very liberating and sounds good and musical, in contrast to fully modular systems that need a lot of brain investment to get to places.

As for hardware, it’s just too limiting, in terms of preset/session saving, portability, physical size and sound to £££ ratio.

    We are truly blessed.

  • +1 I'm happy for that since Drambo is defintely one of the reasons I managed to cure my App-o-Holism!

Every time a new synth app pops up I check run off to check if I can recreate something in Drambo to get roughly into the same 'ballpark' which is often possible. But apps like Nambu are a pita to re-create in Drambo so I'm happy I can load is as an AUv3 into a Drambo session :sunglasses:

As I have a soft spot for chip-tune-type sounds Drambo is definitely the tool to create those type of sounds and it's only a matter of dissecting how the sound is made go hook up the needed modules and patch it up.

    Cheers!

+1 for MIDI import. At least single track clips.

And not to forget a bright skin ;). Every time I use Drambo, I get a slightly depressed feeling. Somehow I don't like dark GUIs, especially since I also find them less readable. This is one of the reasons I no longer use Thumbjam. First world problem, I know.

  • I’ve still got some GAS here and there, but it’s nothing like it was before I was on Drambo. Those patchstorage racks have been so invaluable. Seeing things like TATAT, Misha, Noises, and Faderboard all get emulated, makes me realize we’ve got more or less the same building blocks, quality dsp. Can’t wait to see what gets emulated next!

  • Thank you guys, Drambo ruined my GAS as well :).

Working on it, the todo list is huge.

Thinking on this, but I definitely don't want it to be a torch. btw. Is Ableton Live bright enough?

the only time I'll go back to desktop is if I ever have song that I really want to finnish, that's it, to WORK on music.

To have fun on music iOS is king.

aumidifx is so easy to record on a drambo inside drambo that I don't even care, drop a midi drambo, record, drag... I mean the only extra step is the dragging.... I can live with it

you can change ableton scale and colors

  • I mean default skin. Hard to say if it's dark or bright

  • I normally don't like dark mode in browsers (hello beepstreet forum), IDEs, etc., but I have never thought of that as a problem in Drambo. If all lines and text were stark white then I would have objected.

  • Same here, Drambo was a game changer. I still get AUs and Fx for iOS, because it's more fodder for Drambo. But yeah hardware is mostly meh, outside for things I don't have room for anyhow.

Hello everyone. I bought Drambo yesterday. I asked a similar question a couple of days ago about Loopy pro and now I have the same question about Drambo. I'm trying to record from the built-in AnimoogZ keyboard, but nothing is being recorded. What am I doing wrong?

Just to present the opposite viewpoint, I love Drambo’s dark UI. I think it looks very sleek and it makes it more readable and less fatiguing in low light environments.

  • haven't bought drambo yet, but with this black friday deal, i think i definitely will.

quick question though, could you add vocals in drambo to make a complete song?

It’s not the easiest thing to do.. but it’s there..

  • I dunno, it totally opened me up to getting back into hardware after a twenty year hiatus 😂

That’s the best part about it. Was briefly tempted by the new OP1, new Elektron boxes, and 1010music gear, but it always quickly dissipates when I reflect on the question “What can it do that Drambo can’t do quicker and better?”

At this point, the only Groovebox I’d spend 1k or more on is if they made a hardware version of Drambo. ;)

  • Drambo is Gas-X 😂

The audio recorders and loopers in Drambo are serviceable and can get the job done, but the app really shines when you use it with other AUV3 plugins for tasks like this, like Loopy Pro. I use Loopy all the time in drambo to serve as a “track freeze” when I’m pushing DSP load too high with synths and effects. I’m sure it’d be great for vocal tracks as well.

  • Just brought Drambo
After watching 2 hours of videos on it
Really looking forward to using this with loopy
Should I host loopy pro in Drambo, or Drambo in loopy ?
    Do it matter?
Think I now need to watch the videos again

Thanks for the tip. I looked. I did everything as it is written and shown in the video. With AnimoogZ does not record normally. The signal is coming, but it breaks immediately. That is, it records an incomprehensible sequence of notes. Of course it's still kind of weird. In this regard, everything is implemented much more comfortably in the same Aum. It would be great to do all this without any additional applications and actions.

Maybe it was clear in the other discussion, MIDI Tape Recorder is pretty much the only thing other than Xequence 2 that can accurately record and playback Animoog Z’s MIDI.

It's.... complicated, you should be able to record it with midi recorder but I haven't had that much luck... better to just record the audio to loopy

Yes, let's not repeat ourselves. Then it's easier to prescribe through LoopyPro🙂Practice playing more smoothly. Xsequence is a separate application, which is also not very convenient. Okay, thanks a lot. And so- Drambo is cool. But applications are not friends with Animoog. The level is certainly high.

They are friendly for recording the audio. Most MIDI sequencers on iOS weren’t designed for MPE.

you can use the legendary comping technique: https://www.guitarworld.com/news/pink-floyds-david-gilmour-talks-comfortably-numb-solo-covers-tina-s-richie-faulkner-and-thomas-leeb

“I banged out five or six solos,” Gilmour says. “From there I just followed my usual procedure, which is to listen back to each solo and make a chart, noting which bits are good. Then, by following the chart, I create one great composite solo by whipping one fader up, then another fader, jumping from phrase to phrase until everything flows together. That’s the way we did it on ‘Comfortably Numb.’”

But for some purists in this forum that would be cheating LOL
