    Wonderful track! :)

Thank you, Tony! I am both proud and humbled. I think our collaboration turned out pretty damn fine, my friend.
My personal favorite track for 2022 would be Olivia's Song.
It was inspired by my wonderful, 7 year old niece.

Such a lovely piece. Love the feel of the piano coursing though this :)

@jankun transformed this piano improv. I think he did the job…

Good work all! Even better next year, right?

Great piano, as always. And a really beautiful orchestration that fits it like a glove.

Not sure about "better next year", though. The standard is already extremely high, here.

Lots of great music in this thread!

I haven’t published my “best” track of 2022 yet. Might not make it until 2023 as I’m still working on it.

I think this one however was one of my best:

  • @tahiche said:
Mine was probably this one. I really ought to finish a lot more tracks this year. New year resolution.
Id also like to do some collaborations, I’m bored of myself 😃

Lovely track, man! Love the sound-design and overall aesthetic. Interesting to hear a full piece realise in LP. Didn't realise that was a thing. Perhaps I need to finally try the demo ;)

Not my favourite thing I've created in 2022

But still a nice melody created by Riffler

Nice barebones feel and groove, with great drums

  • Many apologies for the MEGA-SPAM of quote-posts. Hadn't realised there'd be so many tracks to listen to. When I come back to catch up on the rest, I'll be smarter with my posting

  • @el_bo said:

Lovely track! Felt that David Sylvian would start singing at any moment, which is about as good a compliment as i can give :)

    Why, thank you sir!

I do hope you're using Xequence there
What are you using synth-wise? Is it NS2 or did you do it on desktop?

Yes, composed & arranged in Xequence of course! :) Sounds and FX are NS2 (I hate to admit it, but its sounds and FX are great!)... mastering in MyOwnMasteringApp...

@SevenSystems this one has a big sound and a lot of energy, sounds very good to my ears, and I also quite like the style, release ready I would say, am impressed

Thanks a lot 😊😊😊 actually, the mix wasn't that great, but I somehow managed to fix that at the mastering stage 😄

The ONLY track I made in 2022, so it's automatically the best I guess 😂 (I'm reasonably happy with it though)

This is my cup of tea , coffee and a slap up meal ! Love it 🥰🥰🥰

    Thanks, much appreciated 😎

Absolutely love this track! @SevenSystems … can’t beat a bit of Psytrance. Very slick production indeed.

Thanks, the mix sucked but the mastering fixed it! 🙂

@Mountain_Hamlet lovely piece. Feels like different organisms interacting . Love the sounds.

@SevenSystems the production on this is superb!. Balanced, energetic and just very “pro”. It even sounds great with the iPad speakers.

    I hope that's actually a good thing 😄 thanks!

Mine was this one, without any doubt :)

This is a great song, with the potential to be really stunning. I feel the mix is a bit too veiled, hiding a lot of detail and losing the kind of punch and dynamics that could really allow it to soar. Doubt I could do a great job of the mix. But If I could write songs this good, I'd consider paying a professional to mix them.

    Eager to hear more :)

Thanks! Much appreciated. I hear your comments on the mix, I think it's partly down to the denseness of the instruments (effected guitars etc) and the reverb. The final version of the track on Spotify/Bandcamp was professionally mastered by @Tarekith who cleaned up some of the low-mid muddiness:

    https://richardyot.bandcamp.com/album/sparks

That definitely helps quite a bit, but I still feel the same. I think this might come down to a stylistic preference

Skimming through some of the other tracks, they seem to have a similar aesthetic. There's definitely a darker, denser 'Jesus and Mary Chain' guitar/vocal-led sound...and that's all good. I guess as it started building, I was expecting it to really open up in the mix, to follow the song.

Anyway, please take these comments in the spirit-intended. Will definitely listen to more, soon.

No worries, I appreciate the time you’ve taken to listen and comment on every track in this thread, kudos! 👏

I think I missed this first time around. This is excellent! I woudn't change a single note. The build up at 0:40 brings a smile to my face and invites the listener to hang on. Clearly, you spent some time working on the details. I don't know if you had this in mind, but it brought back memories of Flock Of Seagulls, to me. In my opinion, that's a good thing! Many fine memories associated with F.O.S., in spite of their hair.

Counterpoint: this is your absolute worst track of 2022, and it's still this bloody good.

I remember hearing it when you originally posted it here, and I still like it just as much.

Very dense and intricate - the break at 1.50 is quite unexpected, and the melody that floats above the piano is beautiful.

Thank you, Richard! Olivia came into our lives as an autistic 2 year old, withdrawn, silent, and frightened. My wife's sister adopted her and she came to live on their ranch in California. She was suddenly surrounded by horses, goats, and dogs. The piano part is supposed to represent her running around as a carefree little girl. The melody above is just my take on her current situation. Thank you for listening and commenting!

This is quite beautiful. It evoked thoughts of 'Daphnis Et Chloe' by Maurice Ravel. Maybe I'm reading more into this than I should, but I think it's quite lovely.

Sorry for the delay, had to do Christmas travel... I'm not an expert on genres, but I'd say that EDM is the general category that contains all the different electronic genres (a synonym would probably be "Electronica"). Psy Trance is a subcategory, Progressive Trance is another, and Progressive Psy (which I would put White Hole into) is a bit of a mix between those two.

Any expert feel free to correct me 😊
