Mine was this one, without any doubt :)

This is a great song, with the potential to be really stunning. I feel the mix is a bit too veiled, hiding a lot of detail and losing the kind of punch and dynamics that could really allow it to soar. Doubt I could do a great job of the mix. But If I could write songs this good, I'd consider paying a professional to mix them.

    Eager to hear more :)

Thanks! Much appreciated. I hear your comments on the mix, I think it's partly down to the denseness of the instruments (effected guitars etc) and the reverb. The final version of the track on Spotify/Bandcamp was professionally mastered by @Tarekith who cleaned up some of the low-mid muddiness:

    https://richardyot.bandcamp.com/album/sparks

That definitely helps quite a bit, but I still feel the same. I think this might come down to a stylistic preference

Skimming through some of the other tracks, they seem to have a similar aesthetic. There's definitely a darker, denser 'Jesus and Mary Chain' guitar/vocal-led sound...and that's all good. I guess as it started building, I was expecting it to really open up in the mix, to follow the song.

Anyway, please take these comments in the spirit-intended. Will definitely listen to more, soon.

No worries, I appreciate the time you’ve taken to listen and comment on every track in this thread, kudos! 👏

Well, I get the impression that perhaps many would prefer I didn't. So I'll leave it there.

Not at all, your feedback has been helpful and thoughtfully given.

Well…Gonna be offline for January. Might pick it up after that. Some great stuff, here.

    Happy New Year, everyone :)

  • @el_bo : again thanks for listening to my stuff on soundcloud! Have a happy new year and keep making such good tracks!

  • It's a toss up for me between these two, both of them were made in AUM with lk doing the sequencing with a selection of synth and samples, finished and polished a bit in ableton.. one is a cover of roots manuvas witness and the other is a dnb number using a vocal sample from blade runner 2049

    Happy new year

I did music and some of the sound design for a short movie.
It is a “Lighthouse fan movie”
The music was made in Auria Pro. And btw I’m one of the actors as well.

Ah, thanks man! Really appreciate the listens and the engagement. Nothing on iOS to submit, unfortunately. Should hopefully rectify that in 2023 now I have Drambo (could mean something quite different from my usual).

    Thanks, again :)

  • I decided to listen I to every track on this post today while it was still 2022. Damn. This forum has got some talent on it. The flow of tracks actually works really too. I wrote down a little phrase for each track so I could remember what I heard for later. I figured instead of writing a paragraph on each track I would just go with a first word association thing and see what popped up.

I personally think this is a fantastic playlist and I wish each and everyone on the forum a most prosperous and loving new year.

    So here's the list:

Love it! Really funky and interesting. The horn playing is superb (I'm assuming it's SWAM or similar?)

Thank you for the kind words, richard.

Geo Swam Tenor plus LOTS of surgery (tracking the original at 1/2 speed, editing, crossfading, punching in, etc…)

  • I like this one - Fleeing the Beast. I did it after Ukraine was invaded. I tried to imagine what it must have been like to suddenly go from living a normal life to desperately trying to escape with it.

Hey Boomer! This song brought back some memories. I spent a few years playing in a Chicago based Ukrainian/American rock band called Akyla. There were no other bands like us and we did pretty well. We played in some of the best ballrooms in the city. All modesty aside, we were pretty damn good! After I left the band, they went on to become Vesely Chasy. They were fantastic. Check them out...

    Happy New Year, Boomer!

  • @Paulieworld . I really like their style. And the voice is lovely. Are there any rarified circles you have not moved in? Thanks for sharing that. And Happy New Year.

  • Thanks for the posts @symianbeatz , nice gulls and who can’t like something that mentions bitter and cheese on toast 🪶🧀🍞
More gulls on yours @Lorichs , really enjoyed the film and the music. Glad the lobster got a mention 🦞
Wow thanks for the commitment @Mountain_Hamlet .
Nicely different @Daev, I’m a big fan of east meets west type creations.
Two very different tracks @ZooBaaDoo , the second obviously very heartfelt 🙏 Mention of Belle View Zoo really brought back memories. Used to pass it on the bus every time we went to and from Manchester up Hyde Road 😊
Thanks for posting @boomer , I missed this when it came out but really enjoyed it just now , some very evocative sounds 🙏

Just 11 and a half months to get your tracks ready for this years ‘Best tracks of 2023’ post !

  • Blimey, this thread has grown. I’m only a couple of pages in on the listening, have been unable to indulge the last few days. There’s a serious breadth of talent and genres in this forum - very enjoyable.

Thought I’d better post before we hit February, though. This is probably my favourite for the year, but it’s not my most accessible piece, and some people will probably have a severe allergic reaction to it:

A close second, and much more accessible is this:

Took me a while to decide, but went with my convictions in the end.

Thanks Geo. I so love it when you find a fellow Mancunian who ‘gets’ the name, tbh ZooBaaDoo is also a play in the disco associated with Belle Vue. I grew up on Hattersley council estate so Belle Vue marked my holidays😂😂. Thank you so much for the listens 🤜🤛.

    Probably this one . . .

This is quite beautiful. It evoked thoughts of 'Daphnis Et Chloe' by Maurice Ravel. Maybe I'm reading more into this than I should, but I think it's quite lovely.

    I think you're right.

Listening to Ravel here, I definitely feel an affinity. On the classical side, I'm more likely to listen to Mozart, Beethoven, or Mahler, but what I've been coming up with is closer to Ravel. Thanks for pointing it out. Will be checking out more Ravel now.

  • @DavidEnglish , @Paulieworld ’s suggestion of Daphnis & Chloe is one you should follow up. I’ve been lucky enough to hear it live a couple of times and it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written in my view… give it a go 😊

  • Thanks Mountain_Hamlet! Frenq.
