Oh what a thorough list, thanks Krupa!

Yes everyone, so we'll host this on my channel, it will be a live premiere like Vampyr was so we can all do live text chat while we watch etc, and there will be no ads (at least not in the middle, though it may be wise to put ads at the start and end as I'm hearing that YouTube pushes vids without ads less now - so states Venus Theory anyway). The Vampyr live premiere was great fun, I'm sure this one will be too.

Here's Vampyr, for anyone who missed it. Everyone did a really knock-out job on that!:

  • Finally! Excellent. Nice one @Krupa. Thanks @Gavinski for hosting!

I used your blurb for the blurb so tanx for dat too 🙏

  • Fantastic news! I’ll be there if I can juggle some stuff around.

  • I hope people aren't in for too much of a shock when they hear that their track may start / end at significantly different times from what they were expecting. I nearly had a heart attack when I listened back to my bit. My section peaks at completely the wrong time, the musical peak does not match the visual peak the way I had intended. The times for this one were too flexible perhaps. If we do this again I think we need to go back to the tighter start / finish times that Vampyr had. Anyway, hope that not too many others find themselves in the same boat. Something to discuss when watching the premiere 👻

Not sure if this is ominous or interesting, TBH. My piece was tied to a particular visual (one sound intended to match an on-screen event), but I was hesitant to do that as there had to be leeway for stuff to be slid around to fit well together. We shall see!

Well, hahaha. Definitely not feasible with the whole vid at this point lol. But yeah, I might put my chunk out with the timing the way I intended it, good idea 😜

  • Mine was also completely tied to the events and I had fun doing it, curious where it might have finally landed.

(first time doing it this way too, so quite an experiment and experience)

I think it will be an interesting premiere 👻

  • To be fair, the deal with both this and Vampyr was that things shouldn’t be too directly tied to the on screen action, to allow the person assembling it all to join it all up sensibly. I took a risk in this one having that pivot point, but as long as the finished thing works as a whole I’m happy. @Synthi did a superb job of it last time, so I’ve no reason to think this won’t be just as good.

  • Cool! Looking forward to this!

  • BRILLIANT news!!

We are very soon releasing our own version of "Metropolis". It has been a long road, with work and dedication during this time, for all the composers and also for the technical part behind the scenes.
Personally, speaking as the mixing and mastering engineer, it has taken me a long time. The solo work I did is something that is normally done by a whole team of 4-8 people.
Mastering each of the songs first, 20 in total, is almost like mastering two complete albums, then the work of editing and musical direction to make each piece fit and make sense ... (what we are doing is a single film, even though we are many participants). And all this taking into account the rhythm, tone, range and dynamics of each of the tracks.
Then mixing all of them, playing with the dynamics depending on the scenes, making transitions... and finally the master of the complete soundtrack.
There are many hours dedicated, with passion and love, This is one of the things I love to do, and I am happy to be able to collaborate with this community.
Next 27th. the premiere day I`ll be on travel... I still do not have the schedules of the agenda closed, I hope to be able to have that free hours.
@Gavinski , just checked and your track starts at 00:19:38:14 exactly as it appears on the spreadsheet.
I also have some annotations attached but without any clear timecode as to where your track should start. For the next project(s), it would be nice if all the participants rename their files as requested: with the name of the track, name of the composer and the time code where it should be placed.
It is not good to assume, none of the tracks have moved significantly as you said with few exceptions when required, I have used the time codes assigned to each track except when a new timecode has been specified or given precise instructions on what point in the song it should go to a specific timecode. @bygjohn your track is where you specified in your instructions, it have a very clear sound tied to an image event.
Gav, It would be nice to take advantage of the fact that you have been able to see the entire tape to encourage everyone for the premiere, and see and speak about all the good and positive things, in terms of the compositions, the sound and the work behind. With your comments, not only does it not take any of this into account, but it seems to me that it creates a feeling of insecurity, and puts the attention of the participants and even the spectators in a place that should not be.
I'm sure everyone will be delighted when they see this our version of Metropolis, and I hope to be there in the premiere sharing with all you!

Sorry Synthi, I looked again at my extra comment to you about positioning of the transition and agree that I wasn't maybe clear enough. I should have said 'drums start when he opens the door'. Apologies! My memory is that with my times, my suggestion to you about nudging the time for that would potentially only have needed a nudge of seconds or milliseconds. Maybe there was some mistake on my end. Hopefully everyone else's pieces ended as they should have.

My suggestion for next time, if there is one, is that someone should maybe take the job of parceling the film up into chunks in advance, some might be longer, some shorter, giving exact start and stop times that fit well with the scenes, action etc. It would also save having to do negotiation with people on either side of you (pretty sure I remember my start time was changed by agreement with the person before me? So that might also have led to some of the problems with the positioning of my particular piece).

Negotiation can be a bit tedious. Just give ppl their slots and make them stick to them, if they're a bit shorter than allocated, that's not a problem, bits of silence here and there are actually good.
Anyway, I wasn't blaming you, I just knew that something had gone wrong somewhere. I haven't watched the whole thing by the way, even though I could have - I also prefer to just leave it to watch cold with everyone on the night of the premiere, which I'm looking forward to.

I know by the way that @Krupa also had a lot of problems with people dropping out etc and managing that whole side of things. So in future we need to make sure that people who volunteer to participate are really committed, because I know dealing with this caused him major hassle at a time when he was extremely busy, and that is not a good thing at all.

Anyway, cheers, and thanks again Synthi for your work on these, it's highly appreciated!

  • Well said @Synthi . It’s definitely been a bit of a slog getting this one together the last seven (eight?) months. It’s been a distraction from other projects and life for me, and I didn’t have to put the extended focus time in that you did, so having a negative expressed before release was a bit of a downer.

Collaboration is hard, trust me I’ve been doing it commercially and creatively for decades and I’ve made mistakes, there’s several film makers, animators and musicians that after the barneys we’ve had I’m surprised that they still talk to me, or I to them, but it’s always a work in progress, and at some point we put it down and call it done. A few months later it always looks better (actually sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes whatever it is and whatever perspective you get on it, it just stinks 😂). Generally the main thing is communication and acceptance, and in something like this where no money has changed hands, there’s no power struggle to be had, only people’s goodwill and time, so acceptance is the key… a bit like stage improv, just try to make sure that you’re always saying yes, do your best to make your partners look good.

Yes, fair comment Chris. @Synthi if you feel my above response was lacking in any way and there are hard feelings, we can definitely move to dms and hopefully clear up any misunderstandings or other problems. Appreciate you.

“Always saying yes” - very wise. :) I for one am ready to welcome our new @Synthi overlords’ judgement! (And am immensely impressed by and grateful for the awesome amount of effort put in to make this thing a thing.) Excited for this project to finally see the light of day :)

That’s fantastic, but like I said in my last post, if you’d had to move it about I’d have been OK with it - I took a chance having something that specific in my piece, knowing in advance it might have to be shifted about to fit.

Part of the joy of this kind of thing is trusting the process (and people) involved. It worked wonderfully for Vampyr, so I’m expecting it to have worked equally well this time round.

I’m just hoping my last minute coming off the subs bench and knocking my piece together in record time has resulted in something that holds up against everyone else’s work…

@Synthi and @Krupa , we’re lucky to have you and your skills on board with this, so thank you!

I’m looking forward to the premiere - I’ve rejigged my weekend arrangements so I can be in the chat!

Is there an “upcoming premiere” YT link we can use to spread the word?

Thanks @Synthi and @Krupa for all the hard work!. I originally suggested doing Metropolis (I think). Nice to see it come to fruition. Looking forward to a gummy and a premier on Sunday. I’m gonna watch it on a newly installed 65” tv!

Can't wait, thank you all involved in this monumental project, fantastic! 🤩

  • Thanks for the mention guys
I've been absent  so it shouldn't count for nothing

So the greatest thanks gotta be to y'all who gave a lot of sweat, tears, and fingerprints into this.

  • So... Here's a link for the premiere!

Showtime in various timezones was posted a few days ago by the wonderful Chris Krupa. I'm going to tweet etc about this now, let's try to get a bit of buzz going! Maybe everyone involved or who just wants to support can post to social media today (or retweet others' tweets etc) and then we can give it a push nearer the time.

It's good to remind people that when they click on the vid, this 'notify me' box will pop up and they might want to click on that so youtube will remind them nearer the time.

    See you in the premiere!
