Thanks! Definitely looking forward to that. About to try it in just a bit.
Mixing presets and playing with transposition now 😊
🔥
NFM
Phasemaker - randomization is cool.
KQ Dixie - probably most patches of any iOS synth since it takes dx patches that are all over for free, Even an online DX cart generator to create a whole bank for free.
Nambu has 6 right…
Bleass Omega is FM but not sure how many op’s
Omega is 4 operators and only sine waves but you have a filter and wavefolder. It has its charm. Kind of like Digitone for iOS.
I love the sound on Nambu, but NFM is still my fav I think.
Btw, has anyone mentioned the one that cannot be mentioned? 😂
NFM sounds better than KQ Dixie for me. This seems to be due to the drive parameter in NFM. I found that if I turn drive down, NFM sounds like KQ Dixie (try this with the same FM setup).
I run KQ Dixie through a guitar amp simulator to get a somewhat similar sound.
There’s plenty of settings in KQ Dixie to increase the output level, change the resolution of the sine-waves (down to 12 bit like on the OG DX7) among other things.
For 2OP ‘game’ FM the OPL app is hard to beat and comes with a load of presets.
dRambo? I believe so. I like the FM module in there as well.
Oh man OPL is a great one. One of my favorite synth apps I’d say.
Own (and love) Omega but it’s only 4 ops. Ended up with Dixie but NFM is still on the list.
Exactly, I actually built a 4OP FM synth with a routing matrix that I could share in here.
I’d be all for it!
Here it is! there are 4 different sources as Modulators, including a transport driven flexi sampler, so you can have a sample playing (you can "hide" the actual sample in the main mixer) and modulating the operators with it.
I thought the one that can’t be mentioned was SunVox
It can for sure!
SunVox does both 2OP and 5OP FM
(I use the 5OP FM inside Drambo when needed since it's too much work to patch things up).
I haven´t took the plunge diving in SunVox yet, but it does look really deep and powerful.
Wow, that's an excellent one, thanks a lot!
👍🏼
Dixie is so fun especially when I want to be lazy and not make patches. And it’s so light on the cpu that I can go absolutely nuts with effects on it
Just got Dixie… and I love it so far! It’s nice having access to a HUGE library of presets, even if I kinda jacked up my library with folders all Willy nilly now
Oh man SunVox is great, you’re in for a treat. One of my favorite apps even though I’ve only explored like 50% of it lol
Haha I did the same. But it’s great right? I’m having a blast with it.
Thanks a ton! Can’t wait to try this out.
If anybody happens upon this thread and has the same question, the FM IAP in Tera Pro is also awesome and DX7 patches work there too
Nambu and apparillo are the top of iOS fm to me. Kq Dixie is hideous
It really depends on what one is after. KQ emulates a DX7 very well is CPU efficient and has a few bells and whistles. It can read DX7 libraries and cartridges,
The patch and bank-saving are a hassle.
Nambu and Aparillo are great but if I am wanting DX7 sounds, KQ is great.
How is Phasemaker as far as making sounds? Is that 6 or 4?
It is a 6-op synth. It is sort of an enriched DX7 architecture. If you search this forum, you will find that much has been said about it and the other synths under discussion. On YouTube you will f8nd some good demonstrations.
So, going beyond the DX-7, has nobody cloned Yamaha’s FM-X yet?
It has stronger modulation power or more harmonic richness than Dixie. Phasemaker also has TX81Z waveforms and an AM mode.
