    not at all!
its a complexe delay/verb based on cascaded high pass filters.
it can resonate, get noisy, sandy, dusty, lush etc
    quite a beast :)

Can you tap temp your delay?

Super excited for this one. Xynthesizer and Velvet Machine are 2 of my favorites. Honestly Shoom is too. Glad to see he’s still at it 🤩

Shoom is a gem. More people should know about it. The great Jakob did a video about it. Only downside is not Auv3.

As a non-native English speaker, what do people means when they say "lush"? I read this word so many times, not sure what it means.

It's like "transparent overdrive", I just cannot understand the meaning of it.

    Thanks

  • Velvet is very good , easy and so powerful. I agree this guy is a very good dev.

Like “full spectrum” or “luxurious” or “satisfying”. Some synonyms which might make more sense?

My mother tongue is french and I can translate Lush by the French word «  Luxuriant «  , avec une richesse dans la texture c est plus un ressenti, I Hope That will help you.

Ouais je sais mais un son luxuriant ça veut juste rien dire :)

Hmm doesn’t seem to be all that similar besides both of them having delays. Looks like they’re going after 2 totally different things though.

Yep Shoom is fantastic. Fingers crossed he’ll make it AU one day 🤞

It can also mean "a heavy drinker".

  • I’m surprised to hear all these accolades for Velvet Machine. I had deleted it a while back cause it seemed to do two things:
    1) Sound like a frozen reverb
    2) Sound like a gated frozen reverb.

I’m sure I tried different source materials on it. I guess I didn’t try hard enough to tweak the settings 🤷‍♂️. It may be time to reinstall and give it another spin.

    So I'm a lush, innit? 🤣🤣🤣

You can make drones with it mate. I'll demonstrate tomorrow when I'm awake.

Shoom is in my top 3 iOS synths. It’s never getting deleted in a cull

I share your opinion and rarely use it. What I like is to use a small density to create subtle echos, see my settings below:

I just got "new" sounds with my guitar when I use Velvet Machine. I don't use it with synth, but with a guitar it's a lot of fun. It sounds like no other effect.

Works well with plucky sounds indeed! Kind of what I like to do with Bleass granular with these settings.

  • who loves Velvet
    will adore Cascade :)
it is - somehow - from the same family
( but way more versatile )

    *playing with desktop beta now

I'm also into this aspect of Velvet Machine. Can create some unique sounding rhythmic textures.

Agreed! It’s not quite top 3 for me but I love it a hell of a lot.

Hahah I just came off a rant in another thread about overuse of meaningless buzzwords. “Lush” indeed is a major qualifier.

I got told off for calling a synth a beast once. It sounded lush too. Workflow, workflow, workflow. Sorry, not sorry :o

More like Kajita, in that it has a reverb.
