Yeah a lot of my favorite vocalists aren’t “good” singers. As long as there’s effort and

    emotion, that’s all that matters.

There’s a terrible problem with this generation of game show bred consumer’s of music, because that’s what they are, “consumers” . People who produce nothing, but are super quick with the snide and snarky comments, looking for any opening to get a shot in.
Art doesn’t survive well in this climate, everyone is critic, they saw it on t.v., Americas got talent or the voice…all utter crap, it’s sad.
Just listen to Pat Metheny talk about how Lyle Mays had to step away because he was so devastated by people attacking him for his looks from old videos. Truly sad, one of the great players and composers of modern times.
I imagine this ass commenting “if only he had hired a better looking keyboard player “

To be fair, it’s not everyone. I’m slightly older millennial and me and most of my friends are huge music nerds. But I do get what you’re saying. I would more so blame social media and corporate interests over the actual generation of people though. The suits basically push music as a commodity to be consumed now rather than art to be absorbed and experienced. Which really sucks. But for the ones they do break through, they usually become obsessed with music like most people before the age of social media.

I’m saying this in my best valley girl accent.

Been going through a Chet Baker phase recently. What an underrated talent. Sad story though.

My grand niece just came to town, she’s eight, learning to play the trumpet and obsessed with Chet Baker. This made me happy, we watched the Flea Documentary and I showed her some YouTube videos of her great, great aunt who was an amazing Jazz trumpet player, she had no idea and was incredibly excited to learn about her and that she was the band leader of the first all women big band and toured all over the world.
So I’ve been going back and listening to a bunch of Jazz, Art Pepper too another west coast guy with an incredibly sad and tragic life but maybe my favorite sax player.

I’ve still never seen that documentary but I keep meaning to because I’ve heard it’s great. Thanks for the reminder!

It’s super amusing you gave someone on here praise for their incredibly tepid and poorly sung version of this song. He was trying, so participation medals for everyone!

Don’t know what you’re talking about, man. Didn’t mean to trigger ya bro. If you like it that should be enough. And Bob Dylan is a great singer. He’s got chops.

Tom Waits is another great singer.

Chet Baker is also a great singer. And his intonation is solid.

    You have good taste, Sir.

  • Senbei (and he is using a Joué controller live)

  • Been listening to a lot of shoegaze lately. MBV, Slowdive, etc. as well as This Heat.

I can’t understand why I have missed this band - lately discovered.

Kalya Scintilla from Australia - wonderful music.

This one really builds. Just voice and ambient guitar.

  • Alice Coltrane - A Monastic Trio.

I had forgotten how much I like this.

Love me some Alice Coltrane. The Journey in Satchidananada (i think it how’s it’s spelled lol)) is an excellent album.

Been on a Jazz kick myself lately. Relistened to most of Mingus’s discography, Bill Evans, and John Coltrane as well.

  • The Desiccants.
    They are horrible.
Their cover of WAP is possibly the worst thing I have ever heard.

  • Seriously, though…
I have been dipping back into CCR deep cuts (is there really such a thing?)
particularly their debut, Willie and The Poorboys, and Pendulum.
So many good songs and performances.
The song “Effigy” splits the difference between Crazy Horse and Television. Beautiful. Nothing but pure electricguitar twisted love…

  • This as well.
    Rest In Peace, Melanie Safka
