Yeah I tried just with files but it didn’t work. The koala way works every time. Go figure! It’s a mystery!
Again, imagine ppl coming in used to desktop file systems and having to put up with this kind of shenanigans. Really surprised apple are launching logic before fixing things like this... Madness
So - what works here is this: zip up to 8 files directly (ie only the files, not the files inside a folder. Give it a name. Then use ‘import bank’ function in Noises to import. It will be saved with the name you zipped it as. Painless.
Noises is great btw - I see a few people here dismissed it kind of quickly. I think it is something that - even though actually very simple in terms of controls - reveals how enjoyable it can be the more time you spend with it. You can change banks beyond all recognition with even these simple controls inside the banks, and when you hit the right settings you can get very beautiful / interesting sweet spots.
Yeah, I love it for its simplicity, a way to explore all the samples I’ve gathered in a beautifully intuitive way.
Agreed it’s a really great app. Was surprised not to see more people praising it outright.
Also seconding your comments about the files system. I’m really hoping there’s major plans for it with the next iOS update.
Again, I think it's one of those ones people have to actually properly play with (and understand, though that's not a steep learning curve here) before they really get it. Once again, pity the Audiothing apps, like most ios releases, don't come with any kind of demo versions. We really need demos to become a norm on the platform. That, combined with a proper files system, drag and drop on JUCE ports and the return of the headphone jack, with maybe another USB C port added for good measure, would really raise the game for users.
I really love it. I bought a windows tablet to run it, but now it’s on iOS and I bought it again!!! It’s the glue of the world
Completely agree. A headphone port and extra usb c port would solve so many problems.
Would love to see more demo versions of apps as well. Some things are “instabuys” for me but some things I need a little time to dive into first so a trial or demo for any major purchase would be incredible.
Also sheesh please give us drag and drop. Especially on an app like this.
I’m on the fence as I have a number of apps that could do a similar thing, though not as easily, but also space on my iPad is very tight (I’m aware you can choose which banks to download, but still…) and I need to somehow keep a few gigs free for Logic. Also, Logic + it’s automation capabilities could provide similar results to this on steroids.
It’s timing really, if this had been released before the news about Logic then it would have been an instabuy, but until I see what I can do with Logic, my app buying is on hold.
Absolutely! This is something that should be standard, now that it’s seemingly much easier to implement.
In lieu of Apple making it a requirement, perhaps we could start a 'soft' campaign?
Lovely trakc! Great album!
Yeah, you could definitely hack up your own rough version of this. You wouldn't have things like the randomization options though or the ability to choose which things to randomize. I guess a lot of ppl will buy it for the included weird hainbach sounds, nicely curated into appropriate packs of 8.
We're a bunch of addicts here basically - that would be like getting a bunch of methheads to agree not to buy from any dealers in the neighborhood til the dealers cave and give free samples. Who's gonna cave first 😂
But ppl could certainly choose to support devs who do offer demos. Then again, buying an app just because you can demo kind of defeats the whole purpose of demos 😂
And also devs offering cheap apps - I think mollilooper is getting a lot of love, and likely sales too, because ppl are glad to be offered something fun and cheap after so many recent pricier releases. This is proof I think that cheap apps will not disappear, not everything will try to go subscription etc. For devs without a big name this is a sensible approach: simple apps that don't take too long to code and are priced at a level that allows guilt free instabuys. Churn out ten of those a year, you might be in with a chance of making a basic living. This seems to be the route that some devs are already taking, won't mention names, but in some of those cases their appeal is too niche to be really profitable, I'd hazard.
That’s why I mentioned a soft campaign, rather than insisting and boycotting. Having said that, I can’t think of a good reason for developers not to offer demo’s
I can - because often ppl will demo something and realise they don't need it or find it buggy so hold off on buying. For something spectacular like pianoteq, it may make them buy when they weren't planning to, but for other apps people might realise quickly, I don't really need this. That's as it should be. People shouldn't be spending money on shit they don't need, especially in the current economic climate. The requirement to have demos would really make devs have to up their game and offer irresistibly great apps.
But churn sounds like grind, to me. Works for some, but not all.
Haha! But that’s why I said “good reason”
If your customers are deciding they don’t need your apps, then perhaps it’s worth questioning why they’re being made in the first place i.e if there’s no USP?
If a demo reveals an app to be very buggy, why was it released at that point? And what reasonable developer wouldn’t be grateful for having these bugs pointed out, so that they can be squashed.
Even if there were developers of the mind (and I severely doubt there could be) to think that the absence of a demo means they can just palm off lesser-quality apps on customers, the ability to refund would undermine the plan.
I believe that most, if not all, developers only want customers who value their software and don’t regret having purchased it. An evaluation period allows the possibility of both parties being happy.
Thing is, it's hard for customers in many regions to get refunds. Not everywhere is like the EU. China has no automatic right of refund policy for example - though apps are cheaper here too, perhaps partly for that reason, I don't know.
Sure devs should want ppl to be satisfied with their apps. The problem is that most people here are not remotely buying on the basis of 'needing'. They're often buying because of addiction and the fact that trying an app is the only real way to know you'll like it. But buyers remorse can step in. You think that most alcoholics who wake up the morning after would not wish to rewind the clock to the day before and decide not to drink after all? I think most would. Demos allow you to get your fix and then later come to your senses and decide your money might be better spent than buying your 50th synth 😂
Ouch!
But true.
Also, currently, as mentioned, people in some parts can easily get refunds. This possibility that thousands of customers have easy access to refunds - in my experience, having beta tested hundreds of apps - is often not enough to stop devs releasing a product that may still be very buggy and would benefit massively from further beta testing, perhaps also with more testers.
This this the reality for many guys in this forum. Hopefully I am a very selective buyer from some years now.
I didn't realise that about refunds. Imagined that would be (nay, should be) standardised on Apple's side.
And you're right about people buying for reasons other than need. But that circles back to the same point; essentially, that developers want happy customers, as opposed to having their sales propped up by impulse and regret.
I am very happy with Noise and it is easy and come with greats free banks of sounds. It is not for all style of music but It for me exactly was I was waiting for and at such price it is bargain.
AudioThing is a great dev company with a very focus different approach.
It's the amount of storage required that's stopping me at the moment, until I know how much is going to be needed for Logic. I'm going to have to chuck off a serious amount of apps to accommodate it, so I'm having to be very careful in what new stuff I add.
Any idea how long the intro price is available for? If it's still on past Logic dropping then there's still a chance I can get this, once I know how much space I have left to play with. I've got to update the iOS too...
You can download 1 or 2 sound bank only to select the most beautiful one and delete all craps outdated apps you don’t need anymore. Not so need for big space if you do that.
Yeah I know, but the banks are part of the attraction...plus I've already removed any rarely used apps, I'm going to be losing things like Gadget if I'm not careful...
It sure is. I've created a lovely ambient bank of samples, and working on another tapey vibes bank. I'm buying this for desktop too, it's so good.
Just a heads up that I'll have a detailed half hour spoken walkthrough on this up shortly. Thought it would be up hours ago but youtube is taking FOREVER to process the HD version lol.
"Noises" intro price offer ends May 25th.
