Hilda is built like an electronic hardware you feel the osc . Tremendous experience.

THIS. My experience is same. It feels like using actual HW synth

That’s about the biggest compliment possible for me as that’s what I’ve been striving for :)

You definitely nailed it! There’s a certain sense of wonder I get when using your apps that I haven’t felt in about twenty plus years, back when I was still new to creating music (at least in the recording part of it).

When anybody IRL asks , I always say those new to IOS music making should stick to the works of 3 developers…BLEASS, Iceworks, and Bram Bos. Those are the necessities and everything is else is more of a “nice to have “ vs a necessity

Those are 3 of my favorites as well. Maybe not for a newbie but can’t forget Igor and Zolotov. That actually may be my top 5 developers list 😂 wait but then I’m forgetting Fingerlabs. Too many to name I guess 😆

I forgot my beloved ApeSoft! Ahh that’s 4 must have devs 🤪

As much as I love their synths, sometimes the UI can ever so slightly get in the way of my enjoyment. That said I own all their apps besides ApeMatrix so I gotta count them too 😂 plus iVCS3 is likely my favorite iOS synth.

I actually really like their UI lol

That said I haven’t quite figured out how to use snapshot lol

I totally get that. I don’t HATE it, but I don’t necessarily love it. But I do think Mood has a good layout considering everything it can do. I think it’s more the extras for me. The pop up windows for LFOs, Snapshots, mixing, etc. But the amazing-ness of the apps themselves far outweigh those gripes.

  • Great synth, so much fun to tweak. The only thing I would wish for for would be the ability to lock the sequencer state (including off) and scale, when changing presets.

Pretty cool! Are you using the zoom feature in the screen recording? Gotta try that (I know how it works, just never tried it while recording)

what a great synth. muchas gracias !

I still haven’t been able to share a patch between my ipad air2 and my iphone se 1st gen. Pretty ancient artifacts, I know, but I tried with files and dropbox. Zip files do nothing, single patches open “init”. Yes I refreshed but new patch doesn’t show. Maybe should I try itunes sharing via cable?
Or buy a new ipad? Maybe if I start a crowdfunding

I tried to figure this out on my own but can't. Using Hilda in AUM and an FX, the incoming audio volume is drastically reduced coming out of Hilda. I know I must be doing something wrong but I have ext turned up all the way as well as the mixer turned up and track volume up. Anyone else have this issue?

    Thanks!

Ok, this is strange and groundbreaking. Headphones and volume up. I have no idea how I did it, but I picked up an extraterrestrial radio signal using Hilda.

Sounds like a flock of electric seagulls. Please share the patch!

Here is the path, load it in Hilda, press play in your host and you will be in contact with planet BB2399 of the Zeta Reticuli star system. Good luck!

  • It works with yours! I’m surely making something wrong, I’ll retrace my steps.
Thanks, I suspect all along but now I know for sure it’s on my side 🤷‍♂️🙏

    Sometimes it's the weirdest things.

With Fluss I ran into a bizarre issue where iCloud decided to append ".xml" to all downloaded patches and then hide the extension so I couldn't see it.

I think it may also be I have files on my device or some phantom links or something, so the OS follows a different logic than if it was a completely different file I downloaded. I will delete de app on iphone and reinstall so I can test a clean slate. This isn’t on you of course, I just have to figure things on my side. No criticism of the app whatsoever

Go to the preset window, it should be there. Click "refresh" if it isn't there yet.

    Complicated explanation:

Patches that are imported are not automatically loaded, because Hilda is an AUv3 which is hosted inside the standalone app, which is a tiny AU host.

The plugin's preset folder is not accessible by users, and only the standalone app has very limited access to it.

When you import a preset, it's the standalone app that accepts it and tries to pass it on to the plugin via a shared folder. The plugin, however, has no idea that files have been added and happily does its own thing. That's why you have to manually tell the plugin to open the new preset (or refresh its preset list if it hasn't already done so in the meantime).

You can thank Apple for making everything file related horribly complicated, especially in plugins and extensions :D

  • Got it! Thanks Braminkski 😁

  • First quick update is out now - here's what's new and improved:

    • Fix for startup problems on ancient devices
    • Tweaked the sequencer GUI to add some visual structure
    • Optimized init patches
    • All knob sensitivities are now dynamic (relative to the horizontal distance of the finger from the knob)
    • Sequencer Note/Velocity knobs parameters exposed for external control/automation
    • Adjusted snap sensitivity of tuning knobs
    • Fixed a bug which could cause a duplicated instance of the AUv3 to go silent occasionally

Ipad iphone ios15, 16, standalone and in hosts. Do this - put a knob to a value, lets say "50". Take finger off the screen. Then try to make it "51", or "49" , moving knob as slow as possible, and notice how the value changes. Can you make it go from 50 right to 51 witout jumping to +/-5 value? Can someone try this please? Thnank you

Sorry to be annoying but can someone please check this one. I will write to support but maybe someone else can also confim. I have this issue with all BramBos apps, older ones like ruismaker etc

Just tried this in standalone on iOS 15.7.1 (iPad 6), and if I set the resonance to 50, sliding my finger vertically takes it to 55, whereas I can go direct to 51 sliding horizontally. I suspect this may be the kind of behaviour @Gavinski mentioned, ie slide horizontally for fine control.

Interesting but is a bit erratic on my device - sometimes it is working as you described, and yes, it a;ways manages smaller increments. But sometimes horizontal control is working strangely for me - when I press on, say, the feedback knob on top right, and drag right, the value is sometimes lowering instead of decreasing. And vice versa!

I find this a lot on the loop time knob in Gauss, very finickity to get the number I want. Then again it’s Gauss, I should probably stop trying to be so anal :D

  • (I didnt see an update?)

BTW did anyone successfully get Cubasis MIDI learn to work with Hilda? I dont know why I am not seeing the parameters light up .

  • Hey, good news Bram... I'll never again ask if you're bringing your software to macOS! ;)

It should appear in the updates any moment, but if you're impatient you can look Hilda up in the App Store and it will say that you can update the app :)

  • edited May 2023

This may be placebo but all knobs seem more precise now (not that I really had a problem before)
    Nice work as always @brambos

  • @brambos FYI a search at the app store for 'AUV3' or 'Audio Plugin' with filter 'Latest Releases' renders no Hilda result, you might miss a few potential buyers not knowing of it existence. If this has been said already I apologise, I haven't followed the thread (busy playing with Hilda .. the synth mind you)

  • Working nicely Bram, from my experiments so far. I tap on a knob, it retains the same value it had before, then slide a bit horizontally or at a slight upwards/ downwards diagonal for fine control. Will you update all your apps with this? Would be great!
