People outside of iOS community are going tobe VERY dissapointed
Watched few videos of non-ios musicians/influencers reacting on Logic for iPad announcement and realised how very much UNINFORMED they are about current stage of music apps developement and apps, especially plugins, ecosystem on iOS 😂😂
They are often expecting that third party plugins they use in Logic on desktop will be automatically available for them on iOS, even without need to pay for them again .. Or they are at least asking “how much third party plugins will be availble on iOS” - not expecting that basically almost none of those they know from desktop….
They often expect based on Apple claims about Logic for iPad that they will have all their pro gigabyte big sample libraries and stuff like that available in iPad Logic 😂😂
I’m afraid, somebody is going to be VERY dissapointed, i think 😂 I am expecting few quite negative reactions from those people after they try it and realise the limitations plus the fact that wast majority of their favourite third party plugins simply are not available here …
Comments
They are not paying attention if any of them think this way.
They will cry and whine when their Waves Sh*t is not available...
But then again maybe that will put pressure on desktop developers to port their plugins to iOS, so silver linings.
And Native Instruments 😂😂
Can wait for those reactions post-release lol
Or to Apple to reconsider pricing model if they realise that most of them will delete app after month of free trial period 😂
Yeah. Apple should probably start setting expectations
I noticed that on the Mac Rumors forum, loads of posts about hoping/expecting their ‘plug-ins’ will work on the iOS version.
I was tempted to reply ‘probably not, but the 973 AU apps I’ve bought over the years will!’
Releasing Logic on iPad is part of a long-term strategy. Quite likely, they are looking years down the road when the desktop/laptop/mobile device differences are less distinct. This gives them years to gauge response and tune features before the time period that they think is critical.
Yeah, that'll be quite a blast...
...I'm happy with the stock Logic stuff on desktop and a couple of free synths that are already available for iOS so I'm all good.
Some will likely whine that there's no iPad with more than 2TB of storage for their East West libraries etc. etc. etc.
As with everything whiners are always easier to find than those than just appreciated what they've got...
Is that Apple’s culture to talk before announcement. They built an empire by making 3rd party software obsolete with new platforms and releases. I’ll bet the Developer’s Conference didn’t have sessions in porting plug-ins to protect the secret.
The rewards will go to the agile as it does with software. Be first.
It is my understanding that Apple has been encouraging desktop developers for a while to start adopting AUv3 as their delivery format — adding AUv3 support to the desktop version of Logic was a step n the process.
Based on past experience, they know this is a multi-year process that will have some bumps and which will be refined along the way.
It will be interesting to see if they remain engaged and devote the resources to make it work.
This.
Also helped me realise how niché small bubble is our community. There is entire big world outside who even doesn’t know we exists. They literally believe Logic is first “serious” music app for iPad 😂
Imagine how the Protools guy feels. 2 levels removed from the Big New Thing.
I don’t see that happening. Wait til people try it and decide for themselves.
actually it may validate the pricing model strategy. If people had purchased in mass only to be disappointed they would have been contending with Waves of refund requests
That’s a good point. If they deliver what Sound-On-Sound claims is the next big thing on iPad in the form of Logic Pro, then Apple will gain a lot of new subscribers instead of refunding angry or distraught musicians and producers.
@NeuM @realdawei
maybe you both are true and i am wrong .. time will tell
I intend to put it through its paces… but I still have to get a new iPad Pro first! LOL.
I’m sure there will be some measure of mass disapproval, but it won’t have a “Apple robbed me” dynamic
Apple are still marketing Logic Pro as a add on when you buy a MacBook aswell as on its own, so if the desktop does go subscription that will definitely upset some people.
Some people will complain, and some will just get on with it and make some music.
Wait, I’m sorry if I’m confusing this, but do you mean Logic Pro X 10.7 that’s on my Mac will become greyed out and unavailable to use unless I subscribe to the new logic ?
Total speculation here… I expect they’ll announce new versions of Logic and FCP for Mac that do require a subscription but in no way will they hobble the versions we already have on our machines. We can keep what we’ve got or get on the subscription upgrade path.
Those boys gotta lotta catchin’ up to do!
Dendy, I doesn’t understand you in a personal way - you already hate Logic Pro for iPad, but, you putting alot of energy still to convince people that the whole Logic Pro iPad thing sucks…
Why not use this energy and time to play around with the stuff you already have?
i don’t hate logic for ipad .. logic on desktop is my favourite daw of all time on desktop … i guess app itself will be great (at least for people from within iOS community in terms of solving limitations they suffer in other ios daws)
i don’t like subscriptions model for apps in general, but i have nothing agains logic itself..
This post was just about what i realised during listening of few non-ios influencers.. My main realisation is how closed isolated bubble we are and how really uninformed is most of musicians word about how things are on ios, and what to expect and what to not expect from LPX and iOS ecosystem …
SampleTank will finally go auv3 now I bet. If that happens we’ll be all set. We have plenty on iOS auv3 especially then.
The developer conference is in June, and developers who care to learn already know how to port their plugins. I’ll be interested to see if they have a session on developing “tile ready” plugins, and in fact that might explain the somewhat surprising timing of announcing Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro a month before WWDC.
Apple has zero motivation to screw over 3rd party plugin developers here, and every motivation to help foster development of iOS versions of popular desktop plugins.
Musicians in general operate in a bubble. LOL. We already know this. We’re a small, very focused group of people.
