iOS 16.5, how’s it working out?

Installing now, not expecting any issues but who knows? Apple may surprise us yet again…

  • Long gone are the days when an iOS update breaks things.

  • No issues on my IPad and my iPhone.

  • All well here.

  • I can’t understand this , I wanted to update for Logic but it is showing my device has no room.

Because 50GB of “other system” files ???? Wtf is that? Has annyone seen over 10GB of “other” , not iOS system files, or upwards of 25GB? Like 50GB seems like I have something wrong here

Any idea how to clear your system or does that require a factory reset ?

    16.5 oddities

The usbC CCK is working fine.
Two older lightning ones connect but no change through. In settings it shows connection but no power to iPad or usb hubs connected. True bummer to wake up to.
Anyone else have issues with lightning CCK after 16.5?

    Update-
Reported issue to apple support. They were, well supportive… seemed intent on getting to the bottom of it. Waiting on call back today or Monday at latest. Oi and this was my go to fast and easy setup!

  • iphone se only charge when on powerbank.

  • As always, first try a hard reboot before trying anything else and see if that fixes things.

  • did that, doesn't charge at the wall.

If you backed everything up, you could try wiping the device and doing a clean install. It’s a desperation move, but… your choice.

yes, I always wait a bit longer after a release. I don't subscribe to the "it's apple, nothing ever breaks" angle. Take my Ipad 12.9 pro 3rd gen, for example

Despite only ever using it with the appstore and official updates, for some reason two separate video apps are broken on it. VS - Visual synth, can't export directly to the camera roll and any video it creates can't be used in Imovie etc (i have to bl**** screen record videos from it!), and another visualiser Vythm, creates slowed down 15 minute videos from 5 minute music track. I thought going to IOS 16 would sort it - like a full refresh. No.

Doesn't do this on my other devices which are on the same IOS.

Still, better than Windows. Got a surface pro tablet for cakewalk, and it seems that surface pros are plagued by cr*p screens with phantom presses. Then with a blank windows tablet, you do a virus check (clean) and it's got 600k files !!! - on a blank OS !!!! Jeez.

    rant over :)

  • i do it with a test device (in this case SE 2020) and play with it a few days.

  • Confirming that the SE 2020 doesn't charge with the Lightning CCK connector.

  • I'm glad I updated my 2020 SE to 16.4.1 when I did. 16.5 sounds like a disaster. Those who have updated, have you complained to Apple about it? Perhaps with enough complaints, this can be fixed.

Also, what of M1 12.9" iPads? Are there any charging issues with those on 16.5?

I'm not seeing any issues, personally. There could be any number of reasons why some are having problems and others are not.

Ah okay. I will update my iPad Pro tonight in preparation for the incoming Logic Pro, but I will keep my iPhone at 16.4.1.

  • No charging issues iPad Air 4 wall charger USB-C, or through the Apple multimedia USB-C adapter FYI.

I believe this has been true for a while. There have been a number of reports about that on AB forum over the past few months.

  • My iPad 8th Gen can’t see the Camera Connection Kit after the update which is a bummer. Seems to be an issue quite a few people are having with 16.5:

  • Hard to believe that Apple released a firmware update without testing with a camera connection kit. I would have thought that would have been mandatory.

Especially with their DAW coming out next week

LOL. er... Yes. I expect a hot fix coming any day now.

    That aged well :D

  • How did the people having issues fair? Did anything improve? Another person from another thread said they would wait for stability , another was concerned current apps might not perform or underperform. Any changes to Cubasis 3 or Beatmaker 3 with iOS 16.5, for worse or better?

  • QA team probably only really testing usb-c adapters in prep for new iPhone…oops
