iOS 16.5, how’s it working out?

  • But 16.5 fixed one issue with Lightning devices...
    ...which I like!

Before I had to use a CCK in order to connect my iPhone 8 (lightning) to the M1 iPadPro (USB-C) to transfer pictures etc.

A regular USB-C -> Lightning Cable simply did NOT work for data.
Now it works without any issues, I just use the same USB-C -> Lightning Cable and boom I can transfer my pictures and video.

So it's not all 'hell on earth' with the 16.5 update as some describe it...

Long gone are the days when an iOS update breaks things.

    No!
Just updated and my iPad don't recognize my audio interface after 16.5 update. WTF 😑😡

  • Oops. Seems like it's the belkin adapter that won't take audio, but it takes power 🤔🤔

  • 16.5.1 should be out within a week or so I guess.

Don't have any iPads with a Lightning port capable of running iPadOS16...
...but as mentioned I'm happy I can now use a 'generic' USB-C -> Lightning Cable to transfer images from my iPhone to the iPad which was not possible prior to iPadOS16.5.1 and needed the CCK to work...

Thats pretty handy. If ios to ios audio ever happens over such a cable, i will be in heaven!

We can always hope the IDAM (iDevice to iDevice) gets implemented into iPadOS17 :sunglasses:

  • it was the apple power adapter, since update. iphone SE2020
    another is working.
    crazy coincidence.

CCK3 16.5 issue killed my sax session today!!!

However there is a workaround that I’ve found waiting for a fix: using a USB-C to lightning cable and USB-C charger or powerbank allows CCK3 to charge properly my 14 Pro max and provides power to Scarlett Solo. Only lightning to USB-A gear don’t work here.

Fingers crossed here! It really would make my music making a breeze, tracking an Air3 running loopy, drambo or aum into an Ipad Pro running Logic Pro.

    Appstore Update:
Logic Pro has not landed yet.

  • Ouch! Was going to completely wipe my iPad tomorrow, ready for Logic. This is worrying, though :(

    Thanks for sharing...

Me too! Like woah! I have things working right now; I will wait until bugs are fixed before I ruin my just new workflow. Thanks for all the advice to not upgrade just yet

Not sure what to do. If Apple would at least acknowledge it as a bug, I’d be confident of a quick fix. But alas…

Meanwhile I have so much detritus in need of deletion, and only 4 gig of spce left. Also, need the update for Logic, no?

    16.5 oddities

The usbC CCK is working fine.
Two older lightning ones connect but no change through. In settings it shows connection but no power to iPad or usb hubs connected. True bummer to wake up to.
Anyone else have issues with lightning CCK after 16.5?

    Update-
Reported issue to apple support. They were, well supportive… seemed intent on getting to the bottom of it. Waiting on call back today or Monday at latest. Oi and this was my go to fast and easy setup!

    Same issue

  • If many guys call Apple support to tech company at the end the support escalated the problem to their team leader who have a direct contact with the team dev leader ….. and you have more chance that it will be fix asap .

It is also true for 🍏

You should all try lightning to usb-c cable with PD charger and powerbank, it works here. Only usb-a seems to be concerned in my tests. Could be nice to be confirmed by many users.

    I’ve reported here too:

  • Does the standard charger that comes with the iPad still work?

    If it’s not usb-c I suppose it doesn’t.

I've got an Air 4, USB-C, standard charger. I'll need to update the iOS to install Logic.

  • That means USB C hubs might not work then? Like especially generic non apple

  • edited May 2023

My charger is a Rampow from Amazon and my Powerbank an Anker. Both PD. Apple cable. But this is with iPhone 14 Pro max so CCK3 lightning. CCK3 usb-c might have different issue.

    Gonna chance it, I think.

I'm currently on 16.3, which means unless I update I won't be able to use Logic. Given that I'm rarely in a situation these days where I need to connect both a keyboard and power-bank (My iPad 9 also has a headphone socket), I think I'm going to take the risk and trust that at some point in the near future it'll have been sorted out :)

Oooh so close. Good luck, let us know how it turns out

  • My BaseUS usb-c hub can charge my M1 iPad with any charger or power bank with any usb-c wire.

Will do! Now where did i out that power-bank? ;)

  • no problem here

  • My Air 4 seems to be charging ok with the standard USB-C charger.

Weirdly....my iPad storage went down from 56.3, to 50gb, after the iOS update. I guess it must have cleaned out some system files.

Text doesn't seem as sharp before...is there a setting that needs re-enabling?

  • I should update with my 60GB or other system files, it’ll flush it out

    1. Will Apple fix the cable issue in the next OS version?
    2. Is there a way to update am OS not to the latest firmware? I run 16.1, so I want to update to 16.4.
  • How annoying, lucky I haven't updated yet to break my CCK. Apple dropping the ball as usual with no way to roll back.
    iPad is not Pro yet.
