  • My Air 4 seems a bit slower since updating from v15 - for example writing this now, the keyboard isn’t keeping up with what I’m typing like it did before.

Web pages are loading more slowly, and text is not as sharp.

Regret updating now, particularly as I’m not going to keep Logic.

Give it some time. People often notice this right after a big version update. There's probably background update and cleanup processes running.

Thank you. I’ve improved things a bit by increasing contrast and text size via the Accessibility settings, but still not as sharp as with v15.

Which year and model of iPad are you using?

    Air 4.

The Truetone and auto adjust settings seem to be screwed - when I booted it up just now the screen was almost black. By increasing the brightness, enabling more contrast via the Accessibility section, and increasing font size has improved things a lot.

No change in performance yet, unfortunately. Loads of typing errors, as I’ve become used to typing faster in v15, and this one can’t keep up with me.

I'm no Windows hater, but I can't for the life of me think why any musician who uses any iOS device would consider anything but a Mac.

I would not have said that three years ago before I got a MacBook Pro. The relative convenience of the integration with iOS is just too good to pass up.

paying half the price is reason enough.

Well because if you also do anything else as well they are so many advantages to not using a Mac :)

I do audio and visual work and there's no way I can do what I do with a Mac in the same way and also have control over cost and workflow of my equipment as with Windows.
There's only a small advantage with ipad to mac integration. IDAM (I wouldn't use it much, I prefer hardware which is better, Airdrop to PC (I just use icloud drive). The only other one which appeals to me is using my ipad AUv3 on a Mac, but that is limited by the small amount available.

I'm still interested in getting an Air one day because they are looking decent as a slim mobile option. But everything else in the line up, there's no advantage for my needs.

  • Oof, I’m on 16.3 so I can’t try Logic but 16.5 sounds like a loaded gun

Every member of my family who USED TO use PCs have turned into Mac, iPad and iPhone users. It's funny because once you go Apple, you don't go back.

I can't argue with you there, at least for business. For home use though, I never find a thing that I can't do far better on my refurb 2015 MacBook Pro that I got for peanuts, than I ever could with my more expensive Windows Notebooks, and the integration with the iOS workflow is great for me. The only time I bust out the Windows Notebook these days is to try to figure out how to help Windows users fix problems and figure out how to do stuff. 😂

My Mrs has gone through at least 5 Windows laptops in the time I’ve had my (still used) 2012 MBP.

I started off on Macs, then used Windows desktops alongside Macs for 20 years due to work compatibility. Three years ago my main Windows desktop died and to avoid the horrors of the new Windows OS, I replaced it with a 16” MBP, and now, Mac Mini.

I’d rate the Mini as the best computer I’ve ever had - no going back to Windows now!

Yeah if it's just a small use case of just working between ipad and Mac it makes sense but as soon as you start to incorporate lots of other hardware, especially if you do video, machine learning etc then Windows is much more widely used, also because you have far more control over the drivers since you choose what hardware goes in your machine. The only Macs appealing to me are the low end ones now :)

Right but if they died that means you must have bought bad PCs, it's not the OS, it's the components. You can build them. I'd love it if Apple made Macs more appealing as work tools but I would have to buy both Mac and PC to do my work effectively unfortunately.

No, Windows in a VM is still possible but quite how useful it is does depend on how much Windows software ends up working on the ARM version of Windows.

Kind of digressing, but I guess the amount of Windows software running on ARM will only increase… I believe Visual Studio now does so maybe I could work on a Mac again.
