  • I hate auto save.
Is there some sort of “save history” in Logic?
    Not undo.

I wantet to save a nice synth preset but hit the init buttom by accident. Pufff the patch was gone and there no turning back 🤦🏻‍♂️.

My clumpsy sausage fingers are to blame, but i still hate auto save.

  • This is probably super obvious, but it wasn’t for me so… if you delete and reinstall Logic all presets, instrument patches, etc, are lost. I had an issue where I couldn’t open a project so I decided to reinstall Logic. The songs remained as they’re saved on iCloud (at least in my case) but instrument patches and so on are not saved on iCloud, which I expected to be the case.
Luckily I could reset my whole iPad to a backup from a few days prior and got the presets back.

Do you know if this also happens when you pause/cancel a subscription? Does it uninstall Logic? My trial runs out this week and I wanted to test it myself by resubscribing, but if I can save $5..

This is a massive shortcoming of the app, especially as there is no way to export presets and patches.

Apple need to provide a means to save and export user patches.

    It’s not ideal.

In the meantime if you want to delete the app and regain some storage space with the intention of re subscribing in the future, offload it rather than delete it…

    Settings>General>iPad Sorage>Logic Pro

Exactly this. This deletes the app but not your own data. Then you’re free to redownload the app.

Is this the right way to recreate Abletons "Bass Mono" Utility feature in Logic? (converting low frequencies below 120Hz to mono)

Yes, this is the Logic equivalent of Utility for this use-case.

An EQ can also be used to EQ out side frequencies below a certain range and preserve just the mono signal. Someone might prefer that approach to making a more mono-compatible mix depending on the context.

I let my sub lapse, the app did not uninstall anything, it just locks everything behind the subscription and you gain access to projects / downloaded content with a resubscribe. It sounds like uninstalling Logic yourself will remove all of that content though based on the other posts here.

I didn't specifically test user-saved patches, though I imagine it is the same.

Thanks! Good to know! I'm very curious about how Logic on the ipad is going to develop and if it can take real advantage of stage manager at some point. Arranging and editing tracks was a bit painful with touch, I'd need an external monitor and mouse/trackpad for this.

I like how close the groovebox functionality is woven into it with patterns, and how easy everything feels in Logic. I wish there were colors or labels for sends though, after more than a couple it becomes hard to remmeber what is what.

I'll likely come back to it in the future when I upgrade my setup to one that works better as a desktop alternative. Logic desktop also seems more attractive now with the Siderack solution being available. Possible that I'll sell my Ableton license and get that with the iPad version at some point.

    Kinda missed it, resubscribed 😎

I can confirm that you can just continue with the current project like before you stopped the subscription and everything else is also where it should be.

  • Hey kids, probable stupid question - I’ve started playing with summing tracks in Logic however for some odd reason when I move one of the faders of a track within the group, all carders within the group move. Makes it very hard to mix them! Thanks for any help.

    Hi there!

Easy - when you have the headtrack selected in an Summing Stack, use the tool Multi-Select, and then point to some of the other tracks in that Summing Stack…

If they all move then you probably have more than one track selected. Any faders of tracks you have selected will move when you adjust one — select one track to stop this.

Thanks @klownshed, that’s what I initially assumed as well however I’ve made sure they were deselected and even tried selecting another track not in the summing group but no change. Is there a trick for deselecting tracks beyond the obvious touch?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure you don’t have the multi-select icon selexted. It’s easy to miss — I’ve done tons of times (coming from Logic on the Mac it’s one of the less obvious features as the equivalent on the Mac is just to hold down the shift key).

  • @HolyMoses and @klownshed thanks for the multi tool tip but alas it's not altered the grouped faders issue. I tried your suggestion @HolyMoses however all faders in the summing group move together. They are definitely not all selected either. I wonder if I should redo the summing track. Is there a safe way to undo the summing track?

  • @klownshed and @HolyMoses colour me both stupid and embarrased. In all my button mashing when trying to make the summing track I must have also grouped all the tracks. Just removed them from the group and they are as free as a bird. Sorry and thanks for helping me learn, despite myself :)

I still think we underestimate the power of stock MIDI plugins in Logic Pro.

Nice video here showing what just one note in the sequencer can do with some MIDI FX…

Of course, this can also be done on iPad…

If you have an iPad with M-cpu it's OK, but, elsewhere, your wallet will be...

  • That M4 iPad looks pretty sweet, but whoooo that's some money. Hopefully my M1 runs the new plugins without breaking too much of a sweat! 😅

apple.com says "up to $500" or something like that. I have a pencil and a Magic Keyboard for my M1, so even with a full-value trade in I'd be looking at laying out north of $2K if I wanted that same setup. Ouch! If the next version of iPadOS ran Mac apps, then I could replace my MacBook too and that would be worth it, but I am not holding my breath there :D

Ha! But then again, what else is worth spending money on these days? Food? Rent or a mortgage? An education? Pffft!

Solid point LOL. Civilization might be coming to an end, I might as well watch the carnage on an OLED screen 😂

  • Certainly wondering if they’ve made any core improvements in addition to the headline bolt-ons, about which I mostly couldn’t care less (Logic now does auto-accompaniment, yay!)

  • Saw this video by a clever guy on YT - he copy code from Scripter plugin and extend the functions in the script thru ChatGPTv4 - in this case adding velocity to Drum Kit Designer…

If we can’t code the Scripter script our self it seems to be a good idea to check this!

  • Hey A-Bus Team, does anyone know how to get an existing midi track containing chords to populate the chord track?

    TIA!

Hey A-Bus Team, does anyone know how to get an existing midi track containing chords to populate the chord track?

    TIA!

    Hi there!

Found this on another site describing how to do it:

“ This is how (for now):

Create a new software instrument track, add any instrument plugin you like (ES2/Alchemy/Retro Synth)
Add your chord MIDI region onto the track. In the Inspector, under 'Track:' set the 'Internal MIDI In:' to the instrument plugin you just loaded.
Go to the Chord track, hit the Plus button to open up the Add Chord menu and at the bottom click On 'MIDI Input' so the button turns green.
Make sure the playhead matches the start point of the first chord. Press Play. The Chord track detects the chord and adds it to the Chord track! To add the next chord, simply hit Tab and move the playhead to the next chord. Shift Tab moves backwards. Rinse and repeat 😀
Bonus points if you use key commands:

    • Hit Option K (Key Commands window) and search for 'Create Chord'. There are a whole bunch of other key commands for the new Chord track as well.

    • To dismiss the Add Chord menu just hit the Escape button.

    • The ; 'Move Region/Event to Playhead Position (Pickup Clock)' key command works in the Chord track too. Instead of selecting and dragging the chord groups, simply position the playhead anywhere and hit that key command.”

    Good luck!
