Strange…
For me it’s there, under Add Midi Track, choose instrument, choose Audio Unit instruments, choose Gospel/Pure Synth Platinum…
Yes! Thank you! Silly me, I was adding midi tracks but choosing instruments patches by default on so I couldn’t find it…I was guessing that once you choose midi track, you could add any AUv3 midi instruments or effects and I only can see midi Fx slot
I could swear I saw post fader with independent pan in the manual. I could be wrong however
Edit: post pan… is the the same thing?
No, independent pan is pre-fader.
Post Pan is post fader.
Thank you @samu. I’m still learning a lot lol
If you add a track, select MIDI and then change the track to no instrument and turn off the browser that will set defaults and it makes it easier to choose auv3s from then on. At least it does for me.
The instrument selector from the tile view has a search box too which isn’t there if you choose an instrument from the add midi dialogue box.
I’m that guy liking MIDI more than Audio into DAW:s.
I was pretty disappointed to see Apple left out a lot of different features from Mac Logic into iPad Logic.
As an example I wish we could have MIDI Transform - really great MIDI tool from big Logic Pro…
There are also some functionalities left out in both the MIDI FX and in the Scripters all presets…
Is there any 3rd part MIDI FX AUv3 out there that does what MIDI Transform is doing on Mac?
Check this video if you ain’t know what MIDI Transform is:
Was everyone’s default sample rate 48khz for new projects?
I noticed some lessons are 44.1khz while others are 48khz.
I think it just a showcase that you can actually work with any sample-rate and not be locked to the hardware sample-rate
Yeah could be
So you think default was 48khz in my case because of my iPad model? I believe I’ve heard sample rate differs depending on iPad model. Wasn’t the overall consensus to best set sample rate to native hardware sample rate?
I had set it to 44.1…
Well, Gadget 2 as an example always works at 44.1k (Audio Gadgets record at [email protected]) even on a 48k device and so does GarageBand. (Thankfully Gadget can export at variable sample-rates and bit-depths so all is good there).
There are some older Midi AUv3's that still work more reliably at 44.1k when it comes to sync/timing.
I wouldn't sweat it that much, not even Apple is consistent with the sample-rate usage...
...I mean when you record video with the built-in camera the audio is recorded at 44.1k which is weird considering 48k 'standard' for video...
I've slowly switched over to 48k but when I record audio on the iPhone 8s internal microphone with the lightning headset attached (for monitoring only) it defaults and locks to 44.1k, If I record with the built-in microphone using AirPods it defaults and locks to 48k. Video is always recorded at [email protected] regardless of what is connected...
As long as it sounds ok I really don't pay that much attention to the bit-depth or sample-rate...
...CoreAudio is also pretty good at re-sampling on the fly during playback so playback will always be re-sampled to the hard-ware sample-rate regardless of project sample-rate when there is a miss-match between hardware and project sample-rate.
@Samu Allright, thanks
Don’t know if moving around effects on the rack issue has been solved.. It was not last I looked..
But the edit button seems to let you do it…. Sorry if this is late..
When I have my Bluetooth headphones connected, in AUM, then open Logic, Logic immediately turns them off and switches to the ipad speakers. I have selected the Bluetooth speakers as my output in Logic Pro in the audio settings. Still not working though. Also, I notice that AUM has now switched to speaker as output. When I go to AUM settings and try to select the Bluetooth headphones as output, I see them in the list, but AUM won’t let me select them. Any thoughts?
@j_liljedahl
This is the funny part with Logic Pro for iPad - agry for missing features, but, all of a sudden, it reveal it self…
There are so many longhold shorttap swiping etc etc in Logic, but there are many of the missing features…
After 1 month.. yet so much more to discover..
Is there a way to copy/duplicate a pad in drum machine designer? I need to create a copy to do a variation of the sound, but can’t find a way to just duplicate a pad, only resample a pad or save a track as a preset
Isn’t just tap on symbol and select Duplicate in the menu?
I found a really bad bug yesterday. I went into piano roll edit mode and selected nearly all the notes over multiple regions. I then moved them back very slightly as they were slightly off the beat.
All the notes then disappeared. It didn’t matter how many times I pressed undo, they wouldn’t come back.
Reported it to Apple so we’ll see, but just thought I’d let people know to watch out for it.
I really miss Loopy pro’s multiple save points history when using Logic
Ouch. Not good.
It won’t help here, but one thing I’d recommend for future is rather than move notes very slightly use the inspector.
It’s far easier to select multiple regions (across as many tracks as you like which you can’t do with the piano roll) and then use the delay parameter which is ultra quick and gives instant feedback — and is totally non destructive.
The inspector is where I first go for many tasks such as quantising, moving notes by tiny amounts, changing the gate/lengths of the notes (including making everything legato) muting, looping, transposing etc.
it’s one of the main reasons I’ve stuck with Logic for so long. Once you get used to being able to do those things in the arrange window not having to stop or slow down your arranging/mixing and not having to mess around with the editors — it’s impossible to go back :-)
I never go into the editors to quantise and if something like a string part doesn’t sit quite tight I always tweak from the inspector unless proper surgery is required on a note by note basis.
Logic editors tend to work best for one region at a time. But yeah that bug sounds bad.
Can you reproduce this bug?’
I’ve just made different tries to reproduce this myself, but, all went ok when moving 700 notes over five regions a tiny bit backwards…
Thanks for the inspector tips. Good to know. Will definitely have a play with that.
Fortunately it was some midi I had recorded out of loopy so can get it back again. I’d recorded most it slightly out if sync after a certain point so just wanted to nudge those bits back a smidge. Ironically I was really happy to discover you could work across multiple regions in the same editor without having to close and reopen it, just before all the notes disappeared.
Not tried to be honest. It just pissed me off and ruined my flow, so I didn’t really feel like using Logic for a bit.
It’s possible I deleted them by mistake. I had the pencil tool selected and was able to drag the notes, but when I let go they just disappeared. Regardless, the fact hitting undo didn’t get them back was super annoying.
trim tool moves and edits note lengths.
The pencil tool adds and deletes notes. Click on an existing note with the pencil tool and it will be deleted.
On the Mac I usually use the pencil tool as the second tool you get when you hold down command key. It’s very useful being able to move, adjust lengths, and add and delete with the mouse really quickly just by holding command to get the extra tools. Being able to delete with the pencil tool is kind of a power user shortcut. Switching between tools that have multiple functions means you can fly around quickly just with the mouse + one modifier key without ‘wasting’ time switching tools or hitting key commands.
I suppose it makes a little bit less sense on the iPad but that’s how the pencil works.
Undo should have worked though.
Thanks. I think I was using the pencil tool but there’s a chance I remembered wrong. The notes definitely did the move effect where you drag ghosted versions of the notes 🤷♂️
No idea unfortunately. Obviously something in Logic makes the Bluetooth headphones stop working for you?
It does create a subtrack but it doesnt create a new pad. And I don’t see how to associate a pad with it..
I'll submit a logic feedback form then, thanks J, for maybe the 10th time at least regarding some Logic problem or suggestion 😂
I don’t get it - when you/I tap on the row (pad) we want to duplicate, it create an exact copy of the duplicated…
If this ain’t what you’re after, you must explain further, perhaps with some screenshot…
Anyone figured out how to make your own ‘melody patterns’ (StepSeq) adjust to key/scale of the project as the stock patterns do.. The ones you make does not ‘transpose’ correctly.. Help..
Sorry if this has been answered before…
Is there any way to map an lfo or parameter lock to a parameter in an audio fx in an audio track?.
Since Audio tracks don’t have MidiFX I don’t how/if it’s possible.
