Who has and likes ButterSynth ?

I am on the edge to buy ButterSynth, but I’m kinda like saying I have enough synths already. Is this one special or does it have a special and unique sound, or is it just average? It’s not the cheapest I must admit. Any thoughts ?

Search the forum. This synth has been widely discussed.

  • literally my most favourite synth on iOS of all times .. epic combination of super intuitive UI, super powerfull sound engine and vast amount of modulation capabilities ...

i hope soon there will be update which fixes a big amount of issues but there is still one unsolved - whole Logic often crashes when loading plugin (in all other daw it works like a breeze) so probably if you are Logic guy then way until this will be sorted out)

  • Definitely one of the best synths on iPad.

  • Whatever @dendy or @wim say is my buying guide since I joined at this point , mostly @espeigel123 now I also listen to

So if Dendy says get it, get it.

Speegs didn’t say anything but that’s fine because he is right , everyone who knows anything about synth know buttersynth is the best of all synths

I happen to also have it and can say it’s the most incredible synth that I have own. But I only had synths for a year less , so I have to say making a thread for this is like making another thread about Logic , just not really appreciated

If you ask me, I own about 10-15 synths , this is most advanced and most impressive , (expressive lol), it’s not your average one

You won’t regret the purchase , so I’d you have the money get it , it is special yes. Do you need it? That’s your choice , if you want it then it’s definitely as spiegel says Use the search function and read and watch @Gavinski reviws as he is technically wizard at that stuff, his videos are the best

  • I’ve just bought it and playing around with it. Seems pretty good so far. Intend to use it in NS2.

It seems like it’s worth it. I so far love these AUV3 Zeeon, Hilda , BLEASS Alpha , Drambo, Arturia Isem, and a few others.. I guess it’s a buy;)

  • If that’s your list, yes , it’s a buy :)

Seems like your list has a Buttersynth-shaped hole in it. So grab it. 😃

It’s brilliant. I reach for it before any other synth these days. So easy to dial in sounds yet hugely deep.

maybe it helps to decide ... 4x Butter, no other FXs..

    Nice!

I can see you keep automation of the synth in a separate track as opposed to having it right inside the part alongside MIDI. How and, most importantly, why?

  • It’s impressive, versatile, and sounds good, but I just plain don’t like it. It’s not special enough to put up with the bland, out of date UI and some other design choices. You don’t need it.

long press on ledt bottom + and "add track lane" - this adds more "subtracks" for currently selected tracks.. i found it more practical because i see directly on timeline where i have automations plus i can move/change notes and automations quickly independently from each other

you can domsame thing even withiut additional track lanes - just drop multiole clipc on top of each other in timeline - they will stack in same track - but then tehy are too small, and i doesn't like it, i found it better to have it split to multiole track lanes

Damn I’ll use that a lot! Thank you

  • By the way, are there any plans to bring ButterSynth to macOS / Apple Silicon at some point or will it remain iPadOS only?

Me neither I had the beta but just didn’t have fun using it.

Am considering mela 4 as my next synth though!

These days I’m being a bit more selective on what I buy. Most synths or apps don’t have a demo, so it’s only word of mouth or YouTube videos. I have bought many synths and many are waste and get deleted.

It's not a good idea to rely on me for opinions about new apps any more. First of all, I'm not a good sound designer at all. But more significantly, I'm almost never considering anything new any more. Even free apps. I have more than I'll probably ever need with what I have.

I made exceptions for Hilda, Combustor, and Surface Builder because they bring something new to the table. Butter Synth is in the category of possibly better, but not needed, based on what I have. Maybe someday. I don't care about simply "better" at this point. What I have is more than good enough.

I valid your opinion and I agree that focus on a few good synths and know them well, the rest is butter ;)

  • All that said, Butter Synth is tempting based on the feedback here. It must be a really great synth.

  • @dendy Would be nice if the updated Buttersynth could be released for the non-LP users.
    If there is a possibility.

  • I've had the experience of changing presets and the synth doing a dip in volume before it settles steadily. Don't know why.
To recreate, simply pick @dendys "Cream" patch, then keep tapping C3 and then go forward to the "Cross Bass" patch. The volume will noticeably dip and then go back up. The same happens if you go from "Cross Bass 2" and back to "Cross Bass". It's not a feature of the preset itself, because it only happens right after switching presets. Stopping tapping and then continuing again plays at the expected volume without any dips. The same behavior happens with many other presets. I'm on an ipad pro 2nd gen. It might be a minor inconvenience, but it's annoying when surfing presets.

Are you by any change using the built-in speaker at somewhat high volume?
If yes it's very likely the iPadOS's built-in limiter being triggered when signal levels get higher.

This is not an issue when using an external audio-interface...

Yep, built in speaker, but it is at less than half volume. I never experience this with any other synth, and it's odd that it only happens when changing presets but then does not repeat afterwards, unless changing the preset again.

And.... I just hooked it up to an external audio-interface (Yamaha AG06) using usb via camera adapter and the result is exactly the same.

Then it’s definitely a ButterSynth thing, maybe the presets in question use a limiter?
(I never bothered to get ButterSynth).

buttersynth was love at first use for me. it sounds amazing, the ui is great, the fx have character and there’s plenty of deep modulation options.
i’d love a more developed lfo and an improved cpu performance (for me it‘s like the moog synths or zeeon, i can only reliably add one instance to a project) but otherwise i’m very happy with my purchase.

this is normal behaviour of distortion/overdrive module .. there was bug during beta that caused crash when when you switched too fast between patches containing overdive module and it was solved by this fade in/out on beginning of patch load ,. probably too long, i will mention it to dev of there is any chance to make this fade shorter / less noticeable

@dendy Would be nice if the updated Buttersynth could be released for the non-LP users. If there is a possibility.

I am bothering him often to release it already 🤣.. he is a kinda perfectionist but hope the update (which includes also iphone version) is now really close cause this logic bug is unlikely to be fixed anyway, cause it’s logic what crashes here, not BS

Thanks for confirming I'm not crazy  At least it's intended behavior.
