thanks @Luxthor - I hadn't thought about that. There have been a few times I wished I could play around with editing wavetables.

    Then modulate wavetable position 💪

    Anyone else have this issue?

no such issue in NS2, Cubasis, AUM, Logic and Drambo ..

I'm tempted since it's on sale, but honestly, I need another synth like I need another spleen.

Anyone care to tempt me by telling me how my life would be vastly improved by adding Butter Synth when I already have most of that ground covered with Nambu and Tera Pro? I'm not seeing it just from the specs.

in terms of sound i would say Butter is for me more interestig than Nambu (i’m able to get from it for me more interesting characters), comparable a bit with Tera. But in general for me Butter is only synth on iOS which i can compare with HW monsters like Hydrasynth, Novation Peak, Access Virus, Korg Radias i can’t tell the difference in sound quality.

Butter has amazinh wavetable editor uncompaeable to anything to iOS, iťs worth the full price (not talkinh about discounted) even for this one feature.

Has more build in FXs and they are more flexible to use.. can you modulate build in fxs in drambo and tera with lfos, envelopes, etc ? You can do most of params of build fx in Butter. Also you can freely reorder them (but i think you can do this also in Tera, not sure though)

Has more complex filters section (every oscillator can be routed independently in own serial or parallel configurstion of two filters, unlike the most of other synths where you have just one fixed serial/parallel configurstion of filters and all oscillators are passed same way into filter section)

For me major thing - has perfect emulation of Nord Lead 1/2 oscillstors FM modulation which is totally unique character and except of desktop plugins DIscovery and Synth1 there is no othe synth capable of this. Also butter is closer to real Nord Lead in this aspect than both Discovery and Synth1 - so for me no brainer. Would buy Butter just for this one parricular detail cause i am huge fan on Nord Lead 1/2

Most important factor for me is UI which is exceptionaĺy clean, streamlined and easy to use, especislly when compared to Tera where working with more complex patches and modulstion is (for me) a bit clunky and I found also Nambu not ideal in this area.

For me Butter is not “another synth in collection” but actually the synth which drastically reduced need of having other synths installed, cause sonically it pretty much overlaps 80-90% existing iOS synths …

Ok, I bought it.. I think it’s cheaper today.
    It’s pretty cool.
I’m trying to get the arp or sequencer to make pitches..does it only use transpose ?
Also, are there any scales in the sequencer?

    Very interesting, @dendy

So, you are using Tera Pro and Nambu too.

What do you think about ID700?

rhis is my current synth folder installed on ipad.. every one of them has some reason to be there and currently missing nothing for my needs..

but looking at id700 for long time, imam sure at some point will try it, it looks very interesting..

For me it’s less about specs and more about sound and how I click with an app. Every synth offers something different and unique. I have most of them and none of them sound alike or feel the same when I’m using it. So in that respect BS stands on its own. The sum of its part is fantastic and the wavetable editor is excellent. Tons of great effects and modulation, a great UI. Just a really amazing synth. Tera Pro sounds great but I click with the interface of BS soooo much more.

Other Synths on your list, beside Obsidian?

What do you think about ID700?

id700 is one of my favorite synths on iOS and really the only one of it’s a kind. I wish we had more Buchla clones in iOS. It’s great for weird experimental and industrial stuff but can sound quite beautiful too.

Still exploring synthesis, and lately Tera Pro and Tomofon, can ButterS do something Tera can't?

I think : play samples and granularize them if wished.
I don’t think you can load multi-samples though (ie. 1 per note).

I would love Tera being able to play multi-samples and granularize « live » any internal sound generated by the synth, as a separate module. Would buy 2 IAPs just for that, if available.
    @VirSyn , if you are listening 😊🙏

@dendy I have most of those, beside BA-1 (did not yet read or hear something that I need, but if would be curious to read your opinion) and SUBscription ... as this is free, I could just try 😅🤗

For me BA-1 is one of the best sounding on iOS. Very organic and analog-ish and has a great interface, though the text is really small. The extra battery parameter is cool for sound design and it’s a pretty inspiring synth. Worth having I’d say but it depends on your needs. I’m a big fan of the Yamaha CS series so it was an instant buy for me.

i like BA-1 for it’s really fairhful reproduction of Yamaha CS-1 - in general i like old analogue synths so every good emulation is win for me :-) Even through it is very simple synth, in this case i like simolicity and how quick you can get from it rhat analog vibe of 80’s

Subscription is .. well .. i like it and it’s funny concept but i don’t think it will stay for long on my ipad.. realistically, except of unusual approach to oscilltors implementation (you affect the sound by entering some text into that “atm” machine) it doesn’t deliver anything which i wouldn’t be able to get easily from some of other pieces in my collection

For me 3 winners of this year (for now) are clearly Butter, Hilda and BA-1.

I admit I've not gotten Butter Synth yet even though it's on sale but I can't see any signs of being able to control the start-phase of the LFO wave-form which for me as a PWM junkie is a must-have feature...

@dendy Is there any 'work around' for this?

Sure I don't beat Linus when it comes to PWM addiction but...

well, in case i want to set precise start phase of lfo on note start i use Curve EQ isnstead of LFO

honestly i would love to see more versatile LFO section too, but i understand that without sigificant UI changes there is just not place so i just use in 80% of cases when i need more control Curve Envelopes instead of LFO

Btw. i love PWM too 😇

yup FMx .. most characteristix sound is when you use saw for both wt1/2, you set wt2 one octave down and rhen you enable on wt1 FMX
oh also turn volume of Wt2 to zero, you want to hear just modulated sound from Wt1

i made this video with few tweaks

I think that’s my exact top 3. Lowtone is close too. Was Twin3 this year? I can’t remember.

  • Can the msegs in Buttersynth sync to host bpm? They seem to run at their own rate regardless.

Yes! I get this exact problem in NS2. It gets even weirder if I have more than 1 instance of Buttersynth in the project too.

My workaround is to bounce Buttersynth to audio asap (that’s my normal workflow anyway - or as much as possible).

Would you expect to feel the majesty of the Grand Canyon from the brochure? 😀

From one Tera Pro fan to another, I hear you. I wasn't sold on Butter Synth, even after being on beta, so I held off, but grabbed it on sale. Then i began to discover its uniqueness and its range, and like Tera Pro, it has quite a few tricks up its sleeve that guarantee it a place in my top drawer.

It is partly related to feature set of course, but I need to be surprised to maintain interest, and ButterSynth keeps doing that, and bringing its own unique sound. The way I can add texture to a patch using the granuliser, for example. The effects are great too and some unusual ones in there … reminds me a bit of the effects rack in Native Instruments FM8. And the UI is quite immediate and I can tweak and experiment quickly,

Anyways, that’s my 2 cents. Your call of course, and it may not be for you, but for me, there is so much depth here, like the Grand Canyon, that I think I’ll be exploring for a long time to come, the same way I’m still obsessed with BrainZ in Tera Pro, weeks after its release.

+1 Haven’t got BA-1 yet, because of the price, but it sure sounds tempting

Dagger from beepstreet also quickly earned a place in my heart!

Love BA-1 as well. Definitely recommend it highly. Dagger is fantastic as well and very unique sounding. And it’s cool to have a paraphonic synth on iOS that’s AU.

I’m having the same issue in NS2 - I have a project with 2 instances of the synth and one of them reverts to what seems like a mutation of my preset instead of any default or init patch - the other problem is neither of these instances will bounce audio! They both come up as “empty” stems! I’ve notified Arto about it so hopefully this will be fixed.

It’s possible it could be to do with my iOS version as well…

this is already fixed in beta but inthought it was bug present ONLY in beta ! You have this problem with normal public version??

In case you do let me know i will tell Arto that it is probably good idea to release fix asap :-) , also in Logic is now current beta BS infinitely more stable.

But i am really surprised, i thought this non-render problem was present only in beta
