New App: King of Bass - Analog Synth, Sub, 808, and Kick-maker

Hey folks,
I'm sure a lot of folks have seen Electronisounds' King of Bass app teaser. King of Bass is a community effort that includes input, features, and sound design by Electronisounds, Moby Pixel, Nu-trix the Synth Guy, DMT Cymatics, Red Sky Lullaby, Marc Hupkens, Sound of Izrael, myself, Brice, and more great folks. (Plus it adds left/right arrows on the sample selection buttons that Gavinski requested on AudioKit apps)

Really appreciate everyone. They're real dang talented.

There was going to be an In-App Purchase called “Beast Mode”. BUT, because there’s been a lot of synths/bass synths recently, if you get the app now, you'll get Beast Mode for Free. (Not sure if it will be a paid IAP in the future, but for now, you can snag it and have it forever)

The app has been in-review since Friday. So, I'm not sure if it will be released tomorrow. But, I'm sure it will be out in the next few days.

One of the coolest features about this app is that because it’s one voice, about every param can be destination in one shot mode. (Destinations are available that would be very difficult/cpu intensive one-shots in say a 36-voice synth - you’d have to have 36 different choruses, 36 different delays, 36 different distortions, etc)

A Few of the Features that are "New" since our last bass app (Bass 808):

  • Over 300+ Presets to inspire you, including 100+ "Starter" sounds to make your own sound
  • Step Sequencer with “Magic Gate”, variable divisions, multiple oscillator & layer destinations
  • Traditional Synth Engine (including Pulse Width Modulation)
  • 2 LFOs: Multiple waveforms + Re-trigger + modulate other LFOs by LFO
  • Almost all parameters can be LFO Destinations–Morph Sounds, Wobble ‘em, Pitch Dive, Crush them perfectly with a keypress
  • New Bass Distortion and chain w/ Bass Boost!

  • 2 Layers instead of just one
  • Brand NEW Analog Filter code made for LOW END
  • Full ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release for each layer)
  • On board RECORDING – easily make kicks, baselines and more without any other gear or apps
  • First AudioKit app w/ Oneshot LFOs
  • Kick it! Function to turn any patch into a custom, perfectly tuned kick

Sure, it has lots of features - But, IMHO, I think the best thing about this is the Sound.

It sits nice. And, hits hard. Plus, it's almost too easy to make 808s that I think may even beat expensive desktop options (like Sub Lab).

Anyway, it's only $3.99. I've had a lot of fun with it.

  • Here's a sneak peak at Red Sky Lullaby's review. And, a preview of some of his patches that the app ships with.
If you're interested in more "analog synth" sounds than bass sounds, this video may catch your ear

  • And, if you want to hear even more, here's a video that includes making custom kicks

  • Not yet available in the US.

  • Nice…

Or the UK. Not wanting to sound entitled or anything, but shouldn’t we be first?🤠👍

😂😂😂 hoping it’ll be out by time I’m off work 🤞

  • Is this replacing bass 808? Can we import those presets we created there?

  • edited July 2023

    @stormywaterz

Thanks for asking - it’s not a replacement because they have completely different engines. King of Bass has a more “traditional” synth engine + samples. While Bass 808 uses custom synth fm algorithms. The two apps don’t share any code… Even the filters are different. So, because of that, King of Bass can’t load Bass 808 presets. But it’s sooo easy to quickly make new bass sounds on King of Bass that I’m not sure it matters.

Bass 808 is probably the easiest app for making 808 bass on iOS - It does one thing and does it well (believe it or not, it’s the best-selling Audiokit app of the past 5 years — and it doesn’t even have a full ADSR 😂). But it does have a cool fm pitch mod that King of Bass doesn’t have. So I’m sure people will still want Bass 808. Especially folks who like simple controls.

King of Bass also makes killer 808s, plus it’s incredible for subs, kicks, and deep, warm analog sounds. Some testers described it as a “pro” or “advanced” version of Bass 808. King of Bass has 5x as many features and controls. So I imagine it will be 5x less popular than Bass 808 😅

  • Play through of the 50 (!) Electronisounds presets that ship with the app

This is very good news indeed. The main course is about to be served…. I’ll have a glass Sauvignon Blanc to go with it if I may.

I appreciate that you of all people also find humor regarding the envelope. It’s why I deleted Bass 808. To be fair to you I bought it trying to make something else. No biggie cause I achieved what I had in mind another way. Plus I like to support a good mission statement. I love King of FM BTW!
I’ll also be picking this up to deconstruct! Nice idea with the one shot lfo’s. It’s like buying a pre made Lego set only much cheaper!

Thanks much! Looking forward to hearing the cool bass you make with King of Bass!!

And, the backstory of the no ADSR thing on Bass 808 - the lead dev said it wouldn’t be important to the users. I was dumbfounded and told him he was crazy! But he proved me wrong, it ended up being AudioKit’s most popular and best reviewed app... That’s why I laughed, because I was so wrong 😅

  • Mine.. First 1min sounds nice..
    Thanks..

  • @AnalogMatthew FUCKING LOVE IT!
    Congrats on the release.. First sound I heard was Dean’s DeepLongKick-808.. E P I C..
Thanks for including Beast Mode for free.. I’m pretty sure this’ll be my 1st stop for bass now..
    Keep Rockin’ Dude.. 🤘🎸🥁

  • yikes better than expected…kudingtons

hope trap drums are on on the King of Agenda!

I love the Butter Bass preset. Best synth bass this side of the Model 15. Currently got Rozeta Bassline (for variation) and Auto Bass (for consistency) simultaneously driving an evolving bass line. Sounds great.

  • Congrats on the release! Bought and digging it!
Not exactly a complaint but is there literally only one preset by Brice Beasley in there? I only see one with the traditional BB prefix. No disrespect to the other preset creators as I know and love several of them but I needed some more @brice in my life... :star:

  • Thanks @AnalogMatthew for the gift of a price. Sounds great in the videos! Looking forward to trying it out later.

Loved it immediately, picked up King of FM and Saga 16bit too and they're all cool as heck.

Do this dev have a drum app? I seriously dig all 3 I've got so far. Would pick up a drum/beats app from this dev in an instant.

Look up their AR-909 app. It’s one of my favorites for drums!

This app unfortunately has a much discussed problem with the timing - see threads here on it. It is potentially great, but is flawed

Not exactly a complaint, but I wish there was a way to turn off the cutesy animated figures in these apps. They're distracting and for reasons I don't understand I find them irritating. Flashbacks to Clippy maybe? Even he could be turned off tho.

Not a big deal really though.

I've yet to figure out what 'tempo' they animate at but a BPM lock would be even more cute :sunglasses:
I don't mind them as I seldom have the UI open after I've selected a preset...

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Thanks everyone! You all really make this worthwhile. 🙏🙏🙏

And…I’ll add the ability to “turn off” the character animation in an upcoming update.

BPM sync for the animation would be bonkers :sunglasses:
