"Need?"
No. You may enjoy it though as it's (to me) a more straightforward and fun way to get in your face bass sounds than those others (Troublemaker excepted).
This one is going to become a staple for me.
Don't do that just because of anything I've said! I'm just an grumpy old dude marveling at myself degenerating into one of those UI appearance whiners I used to mock. 😂
Unfortunately for me, I picked AR-909 up before I saw your post.
Surprised this is still an issue, considering it's been out for so long now.
Also picked up a couple of others at the same time.. retro piano, VHS.. I have to say, I really dig how they all sound.
That's a long story. Lets just leave it that getting it fixed is beyond the control of the developers of these more recent apps.
Really, the main remaining issue is just that the kick drum is delayed from the beat. If you can live with that, it's a terrific sounding app and lots of fun to use. I'm still happy I have it. I can always render the kick to audio separately and then just nudge it ahead a bit if it's going into a final mix.
I think it was mentioned in another thread that an update for it may be coming or a new version? I could be wrong. I don’t have it but the demos do sound fantastic and I love the 909. I just have a few other apps that also do that sound.
Wow @AnalogMatthew really came back swinging! Thanks for all the work you’re putting in and being so involved in the community here. About to take the plunge on this one now 👏
Yeah, you can work around it - I read AUM can delay it too if you have 2x separate instances, so you can still use it for live work as well. Bit of messing around really.
If there's no fix coming - then I'd love more drum stuff from them.
Maybe it's the toy-like or fun nature of them but I really dig everything I picked up from them yesterday, it's just all.. fun - the sounds are fantastic.
That would be cool. It does sound fantastic.
What other apps do you have for the same sound?
I'm relatively new to making music on iPad and am still working my way around figuring out what I like and don't like, what I'll use for writing and recording, how I want to use it for live stuff etc.. always interested to see what's working for others.
Cool, welcome to the iOS world! There’s lots of great stuff out there but it can be overwhelming. Don’t hesitate to ask questions 🙏
For 808/909 I have a few different things. I have some samples I’ve downloaded that I’ll load into Koala or Sitala, the Elliot Garage 909/808 apps, EG Pulse, Sitala itself comes with an 808, VADrum2 has what is basically a clone of the 808 and 909, 6X806, DM1, and Digistix2 has its own version of all the classics as well.
Yes retro piano and VHS sound great. As does the 909...such a pity. Analog Matt explained that it was something related to the dev who designed the app not fixing it. Not sure of the details.
That's a shame.
Seems to be something that can be worked around, but it would definitely be nice to just have it work as intended.
Yes... You can just use 2 instances, do the kick only on one, use the time offset fx node in aum to adjust the kick time, run the non-kick sounds in another instance, then you're good to go. So it's still useable in that sense.
Yea. After awhile the changes in movement draw the eye away a bit too much.
Dope. Nothing against, in fact I like it, but it does become a little distracting when tweaking and playing.
This or lowtones? Dang I like the sound of this… how’s DSP?
1 in us paid music app list
I have the KB6 808 and 909 drum samples. I recovered them from my 2017 iPad Pro since KB6 no longer has them available for download. I love using those samples a lot.
Bur maybe @AnalogMatthew can...wait for it...DRUM up a new "King of Beats" app. 😂 Something like FunkBox, but not skeuomorphic.
Edit: Will have a play with King of Bass tomorrow. Just purchased it now.
So far it’s kinda hard for me to say. I think they both have a unique sound. They’re sort of going for similar things but do it differently. If you can swing it I’d say get both. If you can get only one and want more sub bass low end or kicks, get King of Bass. If you want a more general bass synth with lots of analog flavor go Lowtone. Both have some really cool things that make them unique.
Number 1 in the UK Music App Charts and number 2 overall in the UK Top Paid App charts!
Quite an achievement!
@AnalogMatthew , Not for me as I deleted all my Audiokit apps some months ago as Audiokit apps doesn’t meet my quality reliability and maintenance standard . Even for 4 usd no more Audiokits is on my shopping list . I supported Audiokits but so bad experience on all their apps no more for me. Prefer to pay higher price for reliability and top apps.
Difficult after a bad start and series of problems apps and not serious dev to have a new start even if it is not your fault.
I focus only on the best apps realeased , for this me in June and July no buy as any new apps doesn’t reach my expectations so no apps buy. I prefer to pay more only for top apps like AudioThing or Bram Hilda apps, and few ones including to subscribe to LP4i than not useful and top apps that fit my needs .
It is personal opinion less you restrain to top iPadOS apps better is your experience, time have change now in 2023 , less buying better apps coming to select in the future so I keep my monney for the best one coming in 3 monts time and 2024 .
@AnalogMatthew , when recording a clip using the built-in recorder, there is about 150ms of silence at the head of the exported clip.
You know me, I’m very critical and express my opinions regardless of hurting dev’s feelings. Sometimes you habe to be cruel to be kind.
Although AudioKit have had a few subpar releases, recently the 909 is the main one, I think this bass app, and the past few releases, have sounded great and been reliable. Previous releases had great sound but a shitty filter. This one sounds great and has a great filter. It’s well worth picking up at this price, imho.
I am cruel and feel that it is not the fault of @AnalogMatthew what was in the past but Audiokit apps are not for me now , will reconsider my opinion in 4 years time.
On my second day of RPG-ing on this thing and after a few projects I’m certain this will stay on my iPad for a long time. 🤩 After the sound, simplicity and operability are the key ingredients for the magic of this synth.
Wasn’t going to bother with this initially, now glad I did. Sounds wonderful, even based on just a quick jam with some of the presets.
I still love some earlier AK releases - Retro Piano is a gem! Likewise House Mk1.
So thank you, @AnalogMatthew - nice work! Please ignore the detractors and keep them coming.
It is never a pleasure to be in the role of detractors I prefer when I can say I love this apps.
MK1 is a great idea but as it is difficult to emulate a HW the Rode used had problems with some tonality compare to other models used in other simulation. Not a dev problem but a problem with the HW used to do this simulation. But at low velocity it is good not at high velocity.
I can’t say MK1 is a bad app just that it doesn’t fit my requirements at medium to high velocity. Audiokit did it as an educational project and I think it is good and I bought it to support it.
Certainly King of FM and new apps are far better but I got all I need.
Thanks much! 🙏 Well, this app wouldn't be nearly as good without @Brice's input and feedback. So every time you play any preset, you get a little Brice in your life.
I definitely liked that tuned kick feature. I try to use tuned kick’s regularly so that seems very useful on top of the bass sounds. I always liked their 808 app and this is basically the enhanced double layer version. Think I’m gonna get it.
It’s #1 all over Europe! Also in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Egypt, Ukraine……
Congrats @AnalogMatthew for this huge success!
