  • I still don’t understand why kick drum only apps exist. Someone please enlighten me.

Yes, I agree. I prefer a more complete percussive application, not just kick. Somehow Icegear might be a developer I would like to see doing that.

Anyway, playing around with this beta. See if I can squeeze something out of it that goes beyond.. let’s say Chowkick.

If it helps to makes you feel anymore stymied, I once bought a hardware stand-alone kick synthesizer.

  • Multi instance drums are cool.

Better if theres octaves to trigger different settings per au, though.

    That does baffle me. 😂

  • You can’t do this in Logic already? I don’t understand why I need this. What’s the angle? What’s my benefit? I have sugarbytes drum computer…will that not obsolete this? I’m confused.

Funnily enough, the one consistent criticism I have read about DrumComputer is that it has weak kicks.

If you are happy with host sequencer.

You gain more functionality with modules.

I just thought of an idea.

If the app is low cpu and has a keyboard to trigger each of the au's internal tracks via midi.

You could program a 4/4 to drum and bass. Not just pattern but different sounds. Like a mix.

Not to mention automation of swing per track.

Editable automation of sends which might be the stimulation of resonators.

Not sure how sidechaining works with just multi out audio.

Specialized tools often offer specialized controls over certain specific things that others done. Synth Drum AU and ChowKick are 2 amazing kick drum synths that can do some cool things.

Also the majority of iOS users still seem to not be using Logic as their main host so it definitely still has a place for other people.

  • kicks are not that trivial, at least for me on ios.
try to do something simple like bazzism or kick2 does.
someone had success patch something together like those in mirack?

I’ve never used Bazzism (heard great things) but all we have on iOS right now is SynthDrum AU and ChowKick, which I’ve heard are both less fully featured. So maybe this will fill that gap. I have multiple tracks that use only a kick drum so it’s cool to have a specialized tool.

  • one trick pony apps can be great if they excel at what they are supposed to do.

both of those you mentioned can not cover Bazzism or kick2 stuff.
    you can get near though

iam missing only two things on ios:

bazzism or Kick2 and my beloved newfangled saturate😀

    oohh. NI MassiveX🤣too

would that be worth a poll?
check the market what people missing in ios.

Would need to be a huge ass poll! And there are only so many options you can add to polls. Also there was a massive thread about this recently called something like 'what ios needs' that might be worth a look for you

I’m aware, the point of my comment was saying we need something to fill that gap, and maybe this new app can get us closer to it if not all the way.

Hey folks! This one is more a 'kick-influenced' synth than a pure kick synthesizer. It's also great for chunky basses or huge percussive hits.

Similar to Kick2 it has editable Bézier curve style envelopes for fine tuning the pitch curve, to get precise, punchy attacks, but rather than just envelopes for pitch and volume this one has 8 envelopes, one for each of the plugin's main controls.

The layer section is modelled on the supersaw oscillator of the Roland JP-8000, good for fat leads and baselines... definitely not a one trick pony! :)

  • tried the windows version, it sounds very organic, i like that.
    still not a substitut for bazzism/ kick2.
it lacks the simplicity and punch of bazzism.

  • for some genres it's perfect.

  • nothing kicks like a simple sine with a pitch envelope.

  • It’s definitely capable of producing some weird percussive sounds. It’s a fun little tweaker. I made a few instances sequenced with Hilda and got something interesting going on.

_I don’t know if it was just me, I only had a quick go this morning in between phone calls but I found the knobs were very slow to turn in both standalone and AUM…

  • I sent an email to join the beta when the thread was created but never got an invitation? Anyone else?

No problems with the knobs in Apematrix.
But I can’t save presets. They do save but it sounds completely different. I also had issues with the curve control in the oscilloscope window not responding on changes I made with it. I reported in the TestFlight app.

What model of iPad do you have? If you go to the 'options page' (tap the 'cog' icon in the top left hand corner) and disable the 'scope' does this improve?

I had a quick go here and couldn't reproduce either of these issues when loading the plugin in Apematrix. Sometimes the envelopes have less effect depending on the position of the knobs (for example if the wavetable position knob is at maximum, so that the wavetable position is at the end of the table, then the envelope will have no affect on the sound). Can you describe how this happens? Also preset saving and recalling is working ok here too, both using the plugin presets and using Apematrix presets. Can you email me via the toybox contact form (https://www.toyboxaudio.com/pages/contact-us) and I'll see if I can track this down... :) Thanks!

No worries at all, just heard peoples using it and wondering if it was full, or what have you. Cheers.
