*** Introduction Sale until Aug 31, 2023. (Regular Price $14.99) ***
VAPoly16 is a virtual analog bitimbral polyphonic synthesizer for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It features 16 voice synthesizer, effects, sequencer and audio visualization tools. It operates as a stand alone or as an AudioUnit Extension (AUv3). Stand Alone supports Ableton Link, MIDI and audio file export.
The synthesizer consists of two 8 voice synthesizer, which features two oscillators, two ADS envelopes, resonant high pass and low pass filter and an amplifier per voice. The oscillators features continuously variable wave shape and wide variety of modulation. The filters are modeled on the Sallen-Key filter circuit for classic analog sound. The Effects include delay, chorus, flanger, reverb, eq and compressor. The sequencer features piano roll and automation editor to program 16 bar pattern per clip. Project files can be saved in iCloud Drive, so that the project can be accessed from iPhone, iPad or Mac.
Main Features
•Virtual analog 16 voice bitimbral polyphonic synthesizer
•Sequencer
16 bar patterns per clip. Total 16 clips. Parameter automation.
•Audio Export
Linear PCM format (AIFF, WAV and CAF) and compressed format (AAC)
•Support Audio Unit Extension (AUv3)
Works on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Support iCloud Drive. Support Ableton Link, Bluetooth MIDI, MIDI In / Out.
System Requirements
For iOS Devices, A10 Fusion or above is recommended.
AudioUnit Extension (AUv3) requires host application which support AudioUnit Extension.
AudioUnit Extension is supported by Apple Logic and Apple Garage Band on iOS and macOS. For any other DAW, it depends on the application and some of them don't support AudioUnit Extension.

Oh cool! So is this basically VAPoly x2?
Have just bought. Thanks for also supporting the mac.
Different filter topology: Sallen-Key filter
Hmm… “The Yamaha GX-1 filter is a Sallen-Key.”
Makes me wonder if this is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_CS-80
Because… “The Yamaha CS (including CS80) actually used a variant of a Diode Ring Sallen-Key filter.”
Get it, only $5.99!!!!!!!
Oh WOW!
Here is my offering for the new VAPoly16, which does sound very nice indeed and has some cool features too.
Great!
Safe to say this is a homage to the Yamaha CS-80 ❤️🙏🏻🙌🏽
God, absolutely beautiful. What a quality synth.. Great to see there are fx patches too now, that’s cool.
Will buy next week from my birthday money for sure. Ryo should do a little color variations in his UI, all his apps look the same. But what the hell, that sound..
i don't need another synth ... i don't need another synth ... i don't need another synth ...
fuck.
I’d like to hear someone replicate M’s “Pop Muzik” on this.
Would other hardware heads confirm that this is similar to a CS80? If so, how similar? Wonder of it also has poly aftertouch. If it uses the standard Ryo effects, I'd imagine those sound different to the fx on the original. Are the filters similar?
Those CS80 are now among the most expensive vintage synths available, from what I can see on Reverb. Eye-watering prices!
The Sallen-Key filter was also used in the MS-20, so maybe it's more KORG than Yamaha-inspired?
Yes, looking here, seems the CS80 used a Cascading OTA filter
https://gearspace.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/1395954-another-filter-thread-but-lets-focus-topology-analog-filters.html
Cascading OTA (Roland\CS80)
Sallen-Key style (Korg MS10\20 Rev 1)
Transister Ladder (Moog)
Diode Ladder (TB303\Synthi)
State Variable (SEM)
State Variable Varient (Bad AD\DA) (Wasp)
State Variable Varient (Poor OTA implementation) Polivoks
Triple Bandpass (Korg PS3100)
Formant
No need to delete VAPoly! LP on old VAPoly is modeled on cascaded OTA filter chip (later Korg MS-20, Roland Jupiter 8 and 4) 🤩
Sallen-Key (aggressive) filter used in Korg 35 chip, early MS-20.
So what does this mean in practical terms?
Is there a big difference in sound or functionality??
Pretty much different character of synths, mostly when you start modulating filter cutoff. We need to test it out first, this information is from the spec. after all.
What is the CPU Usage compared to the first VAPoly?
On the initial test in AUM, VAPoly16 needed double the power. On 8 keys polyphony VAPoly takes 20% CPU usage while VAPoly16 takes 40%
Tested it on M2, iOS 16.6
Looks like I'll sample it in Koala Sampler until I get a new iPad in the future.
I’m so tempted. No need for another synth, but the fact he made it macOS compatible is making be consider it. File size nice too.
I've buyed this synth and have to say enjoy it so far. Thinking about VAPoly. Is the VAPoly filter sound difference noticeable enough to justify the purchase?
So much more, I just got it and am soooo glad
My guess it’s based on the CS-80:
VAPoly 16 vs. CS-80
Voices: two 8 voice vs. two 8 voice
Oscillators per Voice: 2 vs. 2
And I found this:
“ The Yamaha CS (including CS80) actually used a variant of a Diode Ring Sallen-Key filter. Korg also used a variant of a Diode Ring Sallen-Key filter. They used transistors wired as diodes, afaict.
One big difference between these two implementations was that Yamaha implemented a limiter on the lower cutoff frequencies as well as a limiter on the resonance (Q) that prevented the filter from self oscillating. The Q was also further reduced on the very high frequencies.
This suggests that you could perhaps achieve some CS like timbres with the MS-20 filter (rev.1) if you are moderate with your levels and Q/Res amount).”
Basic comparison 😂
Woah didn’t realize this was only $5.99 right now. Definitely gonna be buying it. Having this filter plus a resonant HP and LP means one could maybe get some of those classic dual filter MS20 type patches out of it. Excited for this one. Love Ryos synths.
Guy makes a great sounding synth. Just don’t need another.
Royo mentioned Sallen-Key for a reason. Trying to tell us it’s more aggressive (old school) than the OTA filter from the first VAPoly.
I would really like that your guess is true.
And who wouldn’t want the CS-80 sound?! 🤩 Was good enough for; Vangelis (Blade Runner), Chicago, Jethro Tull, Kraftwerk, Ultravox, Bon Jovi, Simple Minds, Paul McCartney, Michael McDonald, Brian Eno, Toto (Africa), Eddie Jobson, Doug Johnson (Loverboy), The Crystal Method, Jean Michel Jarre, Geoffrey Downes (Yes, Asia), Rick Wakeman, Stevie Wonder, Phish, Daft Punk, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and Tony Banks of Genesis.
These filters sound nothing like a CS-80. What they do sound very much like is my old Juno 6. More Roland than Yamaha.
I hope this Ryo chap stumbles upon a Prophet filter emulation at some point
