NoInputMixer is going to be at the top of my list I’m guessing.

Yeah this might actually boot pianoteq off its number 1 spot for me!

Oh wow I didn’t realize you liked it that much haha! I don’t have a definite #1 but this one is up there. Pianoteq is really high as well. Beat Scholar, Mela 4, Buttersynth, the Triplex apps, AudioThings apps, Dagger, etc. So many good ones this year.

  • Still:

    Logic Pro
    Pianoteq v8
    Fabfilter Twin v3

This three has given me a lot of joy and excitement…

Great choices still. I love Twin3 a lot. And I’ve warmed up to Logic quite a bit to where it’s really the only DAW I’m using right now.

  • Fab filter twin 3 and if it makes its release this year, ASYNC Sampler from Froggolab.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Yes ASync is fantastic. Looking forward to the AUV3 version.

  • Hilda is still my number one this year

  • Beat scholar.

Hilda might be the best synth of the year (for me it’s Dagger, though) and most interesting instrument BUT we really needed a desktop level drum AU, and Modalics made a drum machine (and sampler) that will probably remain unrivaled for years in my humble and honest opinion.

while it is true I am not as knowledgeable as 9/10 of the rest of the forum, using dRambo for 6 months made me a drum machine aficionado so I got quite a few drum machines disappointment after disappointment.

Beat scholar was just like whoosh,“…finally”

The only thing I kind of wish is an update for the save menus, the Aux Fx to be a little lighter load, and most of all, and this one is most wanted:

kit-genre presets (meanin like how Init Preset is empty, I wish they would update it for an initial preset for each of the genres like one for electronic, one for industrial, one experimental, etc) so Unless I am missing how to enable it, I wish there were genre specific kits presets for each in the menu.

Modalics gave us something we needed and wanted and someone said, the complexity of the design is astounding compared to the learning curve and ease of use

I really doubt there will be a release to beat beat scholar (or Hilda) but that’s just a guess with a quarter left in the year

Is there a good place for a beat scholar tutorial? Or like genre specific tutorials I mean? So not how to use it generally but where someone takes techno and just does that (like how Mike maylan did the djent tirorials)

PS I wish they could make an iOS version too

TB Lowtone just sounds so lush and good that I have to mention it. The Moogerfoogers are definitely in there too. But for me, Logic Pro for iPad is the big news of 2023. Logic has become the centerpiece of my workflow.

  • No input mixer is going right up there!

    Noises
    Noinputmixer
    Broohahazier
    Hilda
    Fluss

    There that’s mine so far.

Yep Beat Scholar is fantastic. I wasn’t sure about it at first but once I dove in and started making my own patches is all clicked.

That said, I think Hammerhead and DrumComputer are also equals. All 3 of those (and PlayBeat3) are fantastic and, imo, desktop quality as well.

Great choices. I need to use Fluss more than I do. I really love the MoogerFooger apps as well.

I don’t have a definitive top 5 but Pianoteq, Beat Scholar, Hilda, NoInput, Noises, Broohahaizer are up there for sure.

Also the Triplex apps are great.

Playbeat 3 and hammerhead are definitely on the same, desktop level as you said. Playbeat especially to me with its amount of configuration, and hammerhead for its glitching and originality;;. I love both equally as their randomizer is perfect. I’m a huge sugarbytes fan and they are desktop level for sure, but I don’t use drum computer. While those excel in random generative patterns which I need more than anyone here lol, bEat scholar allows you to write in an open ended way. It’s randomization isn’t as “structured” because of how open the writing is. Anyway it’s hard to pick a favorite, as they all have a use. I need to find a good tutorial on good drum making because if I don’t rip off of a preset I don’t have much

Definitely. It’s a really unique app and it for as complex as it gets, they found a way to still make the programming fun. As much as I love DrumComputer, its UI can make it a bit overwhelming at times. Beat Scholar is laid out in such a clean way, that I can get going immediately and still have a blast. To me, it’s strong suit is how easy they made the complexity.

  • Pianoteq and Logic for me.

    Honorable mentions:

I have high hopes for the Moogerfoogers, but only time will tell if I both have a project where they’re applicable and I manage to think of using them.

Phase Monkey helped push me over a hump in trying to wrap my head around phase distortion. It certainly didn’t do it on its own, but…straw and camel’s back sort of thing.

It's hard to imagine a project where the MoogerFoogers could not be used tbh! Even just using them in the more modern style they are mostly capable of by tweaking some things in settings, if you don't want things to get too analogue.

The GS DSP stuff as well - MagicBlur, MagicDelay, MagicFusion, MagicPitch and MMM. Like the Moog apps - master the interface on one and you will understand the others.

Was the GSDSP this year? If so then it’s 1000% on my list. Some of my favorite effects on iOS now. Also can’t believe I forgot True Pan, it’s amazing!

Hmm. Turns out the GS DSP was December 2022, so I guess it doesn’t qualify. My bad.

But that was only the delay, right? The rest were all released this year I think

Maybe so. I know they were released in fairly quick succession but the past year has been a bit of a blur for me 😂

Has it been a magic bl— OK, that's enough 😅

My top picks so far are "TimeSaver" for its productivity boost, “Mint” for money management, "SnapShopper" for online shopping addicts like me, and "Relaxify" for some chill time. They've made my life so much easier.

    No music apps or plugins?

  • My most used 2023 app is Bleass Voices. It replaced Harmonizr for me.

My favorite 2023 app is Strokes. I think it might have come out last year, but the sampler and synths were added this year, which made it a self-contained modular groovebox.

I have yet to try Beat Scholar. I talked myself out of it because I already have Strokes and Playbeat....

  • Hilda for me, although that may change once I purchase Dagger. I can forsee me using both on a track together too

They’re too different or compare but I absolutely love both. I’ve spent the most time with Hilda though.

  • @Gavinski did I hear you correct, noinput may rank higher than pianoteq in your world?

Can’t speak for Gav but they’re both very high up there for me. Beat Scholar, Lines, and Hilda and/or Dagger would probably be my top 5.

    Imaginando’s BAM.

Still in beta but will be released soon. It can become a real contender in the groovebox category.

Edit: and Salome which came out a couple of days ago. I don’t know of any other sample synths that support MPE and have a clean and simple UI like Salome.

I mean they're very different and at totally different price points too, let's just say I really love both! Definitely not everyone will like both. If you like experimental stuff NoInputMixer is really worth getting imo though!

I would argue Pianoteq is equally good for experimental music. I’ve made some pretty crazy stuff with it lol now I want to try the 2 of them together. Or Pianoteq through Lines 🤩
