Yeah I'm with you there. The workflow just clicks for me in a way that Zenbeats almost did, but not quite. That said it's very different from the Cubasis paradigm (and most of the other DAWS out there) so I totally get it, that it doesn't click for a lot of other people. I love that on iPadOS we have what feels like a real selection of high quality environments to work in. Maybe we'll never have the wilderness of choices that you get on desktop, but it seems like there's something for just about any type of production flow.
I still hope Logic on iPad makes enough of a splash that other desktop DAW makers start paying attention to the platform. With Ableton Note and Pro Tools Sketch out there now, it seems like maybe there's momentum building for even more choice (though I'm sure we're a long way off from Ableton Live or real Pro Tools on the platform, if that ever comes to pass). Maybe Studio One and Bitwig will get in on the fun!
the Mac version is missing beat breaker and alchemy sampler, and in my book is therefore more urgently in need of an update. :-D
While it's not possible to 'edit' Beat Breaker and Sample Alchemy tracks on the Mac they do have a 'playback only' plug-ins in the same way as the Logic Pro for iPad has a 'playback only' plug-in for the BIG Logic Sampler as well as tracks using Flex-Pitch & Time edited and saved on the Mac
(I had to re-install Logic on the Mac to get the 'play back only' plug-ins to load when loading a iPad Logic project...).
iPadOS17.1 (and macOS Sonoma 14.1) updates are around the corner I would not be surprised if the Logic updates for both Mac and iPad are released shortly after that...
Yeah I know but I want full beat breaker on the Mac way more than I want a new UI for sculpture on the iPad. I am very much Mac first for music but I’m enjoying getting back into the iPad with logic.
I’m in no hurry for updates. There’s nothing other than a lack of time (and energy) stopping me making music. As a user of logic since day 1, logic for iPad is a godsend and gets me way further on the iPad than anything else. It’s already pretty damn good. The very obvious missing features such as UI for sampler don’t bother me too much at all. The main features of actually being able to make a tune are all there. And as I said, the only limiting factor for me is time.
Agreed. Logic didn’t click with me but there is a lot to love about it. Beat breaker, Alchemy, Sculpture, all the vintage and studio instruments, the delay reverb and amp designers, etc. Despite the UI not working for me, if I had to only have one DAW and no other Audio Units, it would have to be Logic just because of how much good stuff is there.
But since we do have the choice and I do have the AUs, I just prefer Cubasis. Something about it clicks with me way more and makes me way more productive. I do hope it will lead to a lot more serious consideration for iOS from other desktop developers though. Full version of reason, bitwig, cherry audio, etc. Only time will tell but I think Logic for iPad will end up being a positive overall even for those of us that don’t use it.
Yep. Honestly I think that right there has as much to do with Apple's decision to port Logic and Final Cut to iPad as any motivation to sell Logic licenses per se. After all, they get to wet their beak with every Cubasis license sold, every Zenbeats IAP, etc, and that money is almost pure profit (minus the relative pennies that they spend per sale evaluating, hosting, and delivering the binary package in the App Store).
Oh yeah 100%. The more people come to iOS, the more money they make. And I personally know a couple people that literally bought an iPad for logic on desktop. Granted they had been wanting one for a while but that was the thing that made them take the plunge. And now they’re buying other AUs which is also making Apple some extra money. It all feeds into it lol
That’s not true. I’ve encountered a ridiculous number of people who constantly complain that Behringer needs to stop showing any ideas unless it’s a shipping product.
There are other reasons people give Behringer flack, of course.
Yeah for some reason I feel like there are more Behringer defenders here than in most other music groups or forums I’m in but I’m not sure why.
More budget conscious than average? If there’s a positive side to B it’s releasing affordable gear.
Yeah I get that, I’m not saying there’s no redeeming qualities, it’s just become one of those subjects on the forum I don’t touch often as any slight criticism will get you a handful of people arguing back and defending it tooth and nail, even if it’s not about the budget friendliness and about other things. See above in this thread where multiple people mentioned issues with being unhappy about B never releasing half the things they announce. You also had a lot of people chiming back saying why that’s wrong.
Happens with Logic a lot as well though not as bad as when it first came out a few months back.
Some subjects and threads on here are just best to avoid all around.
Yeah exactly my thoughts : Especially when @sfm cane out w the new CB3 videos
@Samu : With all respect , you’ve been saying that for the last few updates. WTF, Apple? Seriously
After trying only Logic for a few months going back to C3 was refreshing and it made me wonder why I left in the first place. It’s a really great DAW and I have a feeling the next update may put it back on top again (even though it’s already top for me).
Fact: LP4iOS is a great addition to iOS, and for linear editing, it is undeniably the best DAW on the platform.
Fact: Any iOS musician can be just fine without LP4iOS.
100% agree.
My biggest gripe is the “pro” part in the name. I’d be ok with it if they had called it “Garage Band Pro”. Is it “pro” compared to other Daws like Cubasis or Zenbeats?. No, I don’t think so. But it is, IMO, the DAW on iOS that ticks most boxes. It’s still far from the desktop version (full sampler, audio editing, warping, transient and tune editing…), which for me sets the bar for the “pro” acronym.
I would like them to put the mixer and update the sampler to quick sampler in GarageBand iOS. I would be happy if they did that but that would have to translate to iPhone to. GB has its flaws but Ive very productive with it while on the iPad and I like to take those projects to Logic Pro for iPad to finish.
I really think the expectations for LP4i were so insanely high to start and then they put it behind a pay wall that didn’t help at all. Yes the flow in Logic Pro is slow at times and clunky but it does do the job of what a main daw does but to each there own is what I mainly see here. BM3 is still clunky to me and has very limited updates but does the job well so I don’t see the difference between the 2 but the pay wall.
So, new macbooks and again….no update. It‘s by far the worst example of how to run a subscription model. God bless i pay monthly,i gonna cancel my sub (for) now.
If everyone realized this it would save so many arguments lol. It’s definitely the most “pro” DAW on iOS but I’m living fine without it and much prefer Cubasis 3. I’m glad it’s here though and can easily see why anyone would prefer it.
I can only imagine how many updates it’s gonna get when people are so cranky they pull their subscriptions, lol.
Maybe they should sell logic pro to inMusic……
If new MacBooks are a trigger for a new update, the update will drop when the MacBooks actually ship, not before. That's what they've always done before and Apple tend to be a creature of habit.
Choice is good. Logic will hopefully encourage other developers to the platform. There's more than enough room for a couple of 'major' DAWs.
We all have our favourites. And it's very hard to like Cubase if you're a Logic user and vice versa. So similar and yet so different that using the other one just feels all wrong.
I always thought Reason would be the perfect match for the iPad.
Yeah reason would be cool on the iPad, and I agree it seems like the most obvious.
I started in GarageBand actually but once I moved to Cubase and cubasis everything just clicked. I’m iOS only now, and I tried LP4i for a solid 4 months or so and it just didn’t work for me. But there was lots that I loved about its internal/stock synths and effects.
I think it’ll be a net positive overall and benefit even those not interested in using the app itself. Gonna be cool to see who/what follows now. I’m mostly excited for what Steinberg is cooking up for Cubasis next. I hear it’s a big update.
“Pro” has become redundant in recent years, it’s just a packaging bling for so many companies. I like the idea that Apple did a complete Logic Pro UI overhaul to make it usable on mini touch displays. I understand your frustration, I was on the same page.
Haha, I was bored while waiting for the update. Funny thing, I even forgot what I waited for. 🫣
In the last few months, I have almost destroyed my workflow. I introduced so many new tools that I’m now lost in the sea of countless options. I really thought that would never happen to me. Now I understand what Samu was preaching for so long. Exploration and discovery eventually interfered.
My grandmother could have had it updated by now......
You should get her to apply for a job at Apple then... :-D
Haha yeah I feel you. Here lately I’ve been deleting any app I come across and realize I’ll never use or need to have around. I haven’t culled a ton of them but it feels nice to just delete the few that are only taking up space. My main thing is effects. I’m a sucker for effects lol. If I had to cull synths and drums I could do that a lot easier than if I had to start deleting reverbs and delays and distortions.
Now I’m planning on just condensing my workflow down. May focus mostly on creating only inside Cubasis and Koala in standalone for a while to simplify things a bit.
Sometimes I miss the limitations of a hardware setup with a couple synths, a drum machine, a sampler, and a sequencer lol. I don’t have the space for that anymore though.
Not recently. Marketing people have been slapping “pro” on software willy nilly since at least the nineties when they’d already overused “plus”.
Anyone remember Mac OS 7 Pro?
