Not all apps can access audioshare. I forget the technical reason but @wim oer @espiegel123 certainly know
App now deleted.
I understand your instinct or maybe it’s a principle to go by. What is the downside of having to create an account? - I’m just not sure what the story is. We’ve all got YouTube accounts and probably many more - what’s to be wary about something like this?
Eh, I’ll download it and try it. See if there’s any unique sounds that can’t be made anywhere else. Probably end up in the basket of useless apps (thats “useless for me” mind you) that I have collected of here.
I think a lot of people are tired of collecting logins, remembering passwords, getting even more marketing emails, etc.
A free tool is great, but I can totally understand if people don’t want to take it if full functionality is dependent on what is essentially a forced relationship with the company. It would be totally different for a Pro Tools owner, but I guess most people aren’t.
Most likely because it's not possible to create a links to objets stored inside AudioShare...
...that is a limitation of all Storage Provider Extensions...
Yep. That’s the way I feel about it.
I didn’t have to sign in to get to the manual via in-app guide link.
It’s a good start, especially for free. It’s already crashed on me without saving what I was working on.
The instruments and samples are decent.
I don’t get why you can’t simply playback your arrangement without exporting it first.
I don’t need this, but I can appreciate this first version. I already have all of this covered, but I think I’d personally use GarageBand over ProTools Sketch if I was trying to arrange songs from clips.
Not sure if I’ll delete it or not. I’m kinda curious how it gets developed. If I was a desktop ProTools user it’d probably explore it more and make more use of it for “sketching ideas” to finish out in ProTools.
If you don’t already have an obscene amount of apps installed I think it’s worth exploring.
I kinda like the stripped down interface, and I don’t mind registering if need be. I just don’t think I’ll be using it enough to bother with it just yet.
I’m surprised there wasn’t more fanfare surrounding this release. Avid and Pro Tools are big names in music production.
I don’t mind using my email to sign up for certain things that I will use or make purchases/download products, i have several for that very reason. Also if I do use my email I go to settings and adjust privacy/notifications so I might get sales emails but not 3rd party stuff, (if they let you) If it’s something I want to use/try and I don't want to give my email I just use “hide my email” which is built into iOS and pops up. Or I create a new email for only stuff like this, or create a free temporary email with one of several sites/apps.
I’d be interested to know if Pro Tools users were kept in the loop. Maybe this is primarily targeted to them considering the prevalence of iPads today.
No don't do that.
Don't just assume we "all" have youtube accounts, that's Surveillance Capitalist Realism.
Me I'm an acid communist.
I quite like it so far, after a very brief dabble. No autosave was a bit of a shock. Maybe there's something in settings to set that up. Lost my first session as a result
Yes you’re right of course - I was meaning it more metaphorically - we all have online accounts of some kind…… most of us. We’re all members of this forum at least 😀
Me too.
I know stuff gets by me, heck there’s just too much info out there, but between this forum and various other sources we all read/watch/listen to, it’s a bit odd that no one seemed to know about this until the day of its release. I know they aren’t breaking new ground here, but I think the fact that Avid is doing this, is noteworthy. Another established, well know software company diving into the iOS pool. It further validates iOS devices as a music tool. It should also further help with the growth, popularity, and development of iOS music and everything surrounding it. Seems like a missed marketing/advertising opportunity imho.

Just use one of these useful anonymous services. Who uses their original private email address for such things? I never do. What‘s the problem? There is none.
It was interesting but nothing that kept my attention for more than 5 minutes. Already deleted the app.
As far as email sign ups, just use Hide My Email feature from iCloud. You can deactivate the alias address at any time and no longer receive emails 😉
There are no individual rights under Communism. Or expectations of privacy.
I didn't say communist I said acid communist. Don't be lazy.
Love the arrangement view and clip based elements best part about Sketch after a hours play it’s quick to get a song going, also that you can use your own samples with easy folder import.
Shame there’s no proper sample editor just basic tools. Edit apparently the sampler due to drop in December.
Dare I say I prefer the clip styling UI of this over Drambo and Note and BAM obviously it has less options for next previous random playing etc.
Instruments are a bit sparse but sound ok. Effects Ok. Edit just spotted SynthCell so has a built in synth.
Samples library is pretty good sounding.
Big question is will they open it up to AU support for instruments, fx and midi.
I know it’s meant to be like Ableton Note and not a full blown DAW.
However it could become useful with more features.
Wish the piano roll and instrument UI were expandable. Also needs unlimited FX per track 3 is a bit mean.
Haven’t tried it midi hardware with it yet. Be intrigued if a Launchpad for midi launching clips would work.
Acid communism sounds like bad economics for drug addicts.
I couldn't find a way to add my own samples. Deleted it.
Next to the tab 'Sound Library' there is the tab 'Browse' where you can find the button 'Select Folder'. Then just browse to the location of your samples...
F*@k Protools and AVID. I hope this app is the beginning of their demise lol.
The amount of times ive had to buy Protools is a joke. zero customer loyalty
I was going to give it a try but it doesn't have a sampler
yeah but it only works for loops, if you want to use your melodic samples there is no sampler afaik
True. Maybe we will see it in one of the next iterations.
Maybe this is part of a trend that we will see continue, and desktop DAW manufacturers will keep working on innovations to iOS apps so that there’s better integration with their desktop products.
I’m just surprised that Ableton has remained so far behind the curve.
I hate to swim against the forum tide, but I very much like this. So much so that I’ve been trying out the free desktop Pro Tools for synching the files. After a couple of hours of interface mystery it seem very good indeed. Lots of possibilities, even with the free version; work out a basic arrangement with the app, open it in the desktop and drag the clips as audio to the main timeline. Then add whatever VST you wish, or audio tracks.
I haven’t tried to load my own clips in, I didn’t realiE you could. Is there a limit on the length?
