Hi there XinematiX friends!
First of all - big thanks to @virsyn for such an incredible offer!!
Sounds terrific and gorgeous!
Question - someone earlier in this thread said that downloading all soundpacks would be 35GB, but, for me it is only 18GB?
What is the correct amount of GB?
OT, but, when I looked in my iPad Pro I discovered that XinematiX wasn’t the biggest app in the system, it was Bluebeast Yamaha EX5 (Gospel…) - it takes 28GB full install! Haven’t noticed that ealier…
Bluebeast app contains 500 EX5 patches, so, it’s around 56MB per patch…
I have the same folder size as you: ~18GB
Great to know!
Thanks!
Gentlemen, today sound packs download a lot faster. Looks like less people are downloading them at once.
Ah, ok.
So if i've downloaded a couple of the packs onto ipad, but I actually want them to go on an external drive, then what's my next course of action? Delete the ones I've already downloaded and re-download? If so, how do I delete the packs?
Don't wanna run into the problem that @Gravitas (Hey Ish!) has, where he appears to be running out of ipad storage despite downloading to an external device (?)
Can that be so that everything must be stored on the iPad before being moved to external storage?
I hope that’s not the case, otherwise I’ve just wasted £20….
There’s no way I can download 18gb (some people are saying 35gb) of stuff onto my iPad .
One thing that comes to mind when apps getting really big, just like XinematiX 18GB and BlueBeast EX5 28GB (as an example) - that is the hard work to do every time you & I buy a new iPad (every year for me) and you must manually restore all IAP, one by one - tedious…
I have an habit to save almost every app and app-version on my Mac with iMazing Mac app (great), but, when backing up apps from the iPad it just backup the app, not the IAP from respective app…
I wish apps like XinematiX and BlueBeast could be bought as an whole app with all sounds, so it could be integrated into the .IPA file in iMazing…
Why? Companies can be out of business and be taken down from Appstore, and, then our sounds disappear forever…
Out of curiosity, why do you buy a new iPad every year?
It happend exactly with 2.0.3. No restoring, only two packs left. @VirSyn
Before:
@VirSyn, would it be possible for you to let us know whether there are things still being fixed (there seem to be things not working)? It’s an awful lot of downloading if we’re ultimately going to have to uninstall/reinstall and download everything again.
Is it possible to have both the Xinematix and Audiolayer content folders in the same location on external drive so they can both access each other’s content without switching locations in the app settings? I assume not as the folders for one have the same names as for the other? If it is possible, how?
Some ‘best practice’ type advice for installing the app with the intention of using an external drive or SD card for storage could be really useful. It would be good to know what should happen when everything is going as expected. Thanks.
Because I can and have the resources to do that.
Why? Because I spend zero on drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and a lot of other things we humans can live without - that money spared is spended on iPads iPhones Macs & apps - also synths and MIDI-controllers..
This is why I recently got an Apple Watch. I quit vaping. The Apple Watch is a gift to myself for havinf quit vaping. 😎 (Well, once I straightened out my accts.)

@Kashi (Hiya Paul)
Quick update.
I left it downloading over night and the storage issue seems to have sorted itself out.
I think it downloads the libraries onto the iPad then unpacks them onto the external drive.
I'm playing the sounds right now and they sound fab.
@virsyn Thank you for your diligence in getting it working nicely for all of us.
By the way for all the budding composers out there
try this script for knowing the precise range of the instruments
that we compose for.

Thanks to @wim
@Gravitas - Cool, thanks for the update Ish.
However, this does sound like I need to have at least 18gb free on my ipad, even if I opt to save the packs to an external device, no? (assuming I dl all of them)
That's not gonna work for me
Just hooking up my Lacie xhd right now, to see if I can transfer the sounds I've already downloaded to ipad, onto external drive....
Of course, if this works, then I can just download the packs one at a time, solving the available space issue...
So you keep the old iPads ? Not trade in? (You must have quite a few….personally I would go with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and all the human vices that make using the one ipad I have more enjoyable to produce music with! (lol jk))
And with imazing the app and software is actually saved so you can transfer it to another iPad without having to DL from the App Store again? Pardon if i misunderstood but I was under the impression the apps must always be redownloaded and there was no way of saving a backup of the software itself - imazing sounds like it can though?
Please let us know how it goes. I don't have 18Gb free on my iPad either...
Ah for fuck's sake Clearly not enough power for my external Lacie drive.....It doesn't show up on ipad.
What are folks using? Little USB key flash drive type things?
.
This one works like a charm for me, even for recording pro-res videos. It has 400 MB/s of read speed.
If I were you, I would first try connecting the Lacie via a powered USB hub. And if you already have any USB hub with slot for SD card you can go for it too. I'm using Samsung Micro SDXC EVO Plus without any complains.
Ah, ok, good call. So, plug my powered USB hub into the CCK? and then the Lacie into the hub?
Thanks @filo01
Ok, that worked @filo01 - but as someone pointed out up thread, the packs that I had already downloaded to ipad were gone.
Kind of annoying really. If I wanted to use Xinematix in a live setting I'd have to take my external drive. This isn't an option for me because it's very sensitive to movement. If I accidentally touch the cable I often get the "drive not ejected properly" message (when using on macbook)
Speaking of which, how do I safely eject it from ipad? Can't figure out how to do that....
@VirSyn Does the Cross Controller that goes between sounds have a parameter exposed in AUM or EG Nodes seeing it’s the main control in the app I can’t find it listed which is quite a miss if it isn’t ?
@Jumpercollins , long press on the ‘cross controller’ brings up a dialogue that you can choose the CC to control it.
Then point your controller at it, in the screen shot below I’m using Rozeta LFO as an example.
There must be another way, but I know at least that that control is hardwired to respond to mod wheel. So if you want to control by an lfo, just send CC1 into Xinematix. Make sure to attach the lfo as a midi source (like a keyboard, for example, rather than the usual way you'd attach an lfo)
Cheers guys that’s sorted it.
