I have just been downloading sounds, supposedly to my external drive, which I selected in the settings, but when I look at “iPad storage “, I have almost run out…so it seems as though the packs are going onto iPad and not onto the external drive. This is bullshit.
And still no idea how to delete the sound packs from iPad 😡

See my comment earlier in regards to ipad storage etc as the libraries
are unpacked on the ipad and then copied across to the external storage
hence why the ipad will run out of space.

I would advice this because I encountered most of these errors last night.

Set Xinematix to background audio, pinot it towards the external storage in settings
and simply leave it downloading over night.
When I was attempting to download the sample libraries the first time round
I was sitting there watching it like waiting for water to boil.
I left it overnight and everything except for the reverb presets was there.

Yeah I read that post Ish but I don’t want all the libraries..
So I’ve just been selecting the ones I do want .
Have disconnected LaCie drive from iPad now but it appears that I’m only a matter of mb from a full capacity iPad.
    So I’m still confused…

Regarding the total size of all libraries, i added up the values shown here

    https://www.virsyn.net/manuals/xinematix/XinematiX_SoundList.pdf

and came to a total of 36gb and 142mb. I may have added it up wrong but it’s a bit strange that folk are getting a total for all of about 18gb?

    Has content been removed? @VirSyn?

I have looking thru all patches installed on the iPad after an full installation of XinematiX - as I can see it all patches from the original list (see link above) is present on our iPads…

    Conclusion?

My theory is that Virsyn has changed the quality of the samples, compressed all audio to lower quality, that’s why the original 36GB has been 18GB on our iPads.

Why? Two things - first of all, when lowering the price from 1100 bucks down to 20, Virsyn knew that a lot of people would jump on the train and a lot of the presumptive customer would have problem with low storage space.

Second - hate to say this, but, “if it too good to be true, it ain’t true” - everybody here buying the full installation have been getting an crippled version of the original samplepacks that was released in version 1.0 of XinematiX…

Maybe they had to compress it to cut down on expenses. In my experience IAP typically exists on servers that the company has to pay for and are not stored and downloaded from Apple.

Hmm, I’m not sure. It would be a bit odd to add support for external storage at the same time as halving the storage space required by compressing the samples to a lower quality.

I’ve only downloaded three packs so far - Chamber Strings, Guitar Pack and Guzheng and Santoor - the total storage used on my sd card for everything Xinematix is just under 2.7gb, which roughly makes those packs the sizes given on that list.

I’m sure @VirSyn will clarify things.

  • Personally speaking I’ve downloaded all the libraries for Xinematic
and it’s an added bonus that I can also use them in Audiolayer.
I am really into orchestral sounds so when I saw the selection on offer
I decided to take the plunge and from my perspective and to my ears
it’s well worth it because the sounds are really good.
Xinematix may not have a vast range of sounds however taking
into account that they are being streamed from my SSD I’ve got no complaints.
I’ve been going through the sounds all day and it’s only now that
I’m actually playing phrases with them alongside Beathawk’s sample libraries,
SWAM cello and viola alongside some of the strings from the Korg module
and I’ve got to say it, Xinematix can certainly hold it’s own.
Anyways, I hope everyone gets there’s up and running soon.

Yeah, but, the big question still exists: why is an total installation of XinematiX samplepacks 18GB when the description of the samplepacks says 36GB??

  • I have got in on the new deal and downloaded all the samplepacks. However, it seems I am missing the 4 factory sounds and I cannot find a place to download them. Can anyone help me?

Also, is there a way to selective delete patches and samples under a sample pack category?

This is a question a few of us are asking. For me, I downloaded all the content so I had a chance to preview the sounds but now I need a way to free up space by removing the ones I'm not going to be using. Although the quality of the samples is very good, the implementation of the interface and file management need some work.

Let me join to you with question about XinematiX size. Does anyone have an answer to this? I installed it from scratch and also installed all the libraries to external storage exclusively.
EDIT: After I deleted and reinstalled XinematiX size of app was <700MB (don't remember exact number). But it increased back to ~1.17GB when I switched storage back to external drive. Weird.

EDIT: I'm waiting from VirSyn support I contacted

You mean delete the app and start from scratch?

I tried downloading just the packs that I wanted, with “ external storage “ selected in the settings.
But my iPad storage has increased…to almost full now.
If there’s no way to delete the IAPs from my iPad then I’ll have to just delete the app and get a refund I guess

Yes, the way I did it left nothing in the Xinematix local banks.

I’m waiting for all of the updates and fixes, then I will certainly delete the app with all data, then download everything I need on SSD. Luckily, I don’t have any meaningful projects done with XinematiX.

Having a poke around in the iPad filesystem there are a few hidden folders relating to Xinematix but they're not in any meaningful structure and the individual files they contain don't seem to make up the 18GB or so that's being reported under my iPad storage.

    Just FYI.
I reinstalled the application and set the storage location back to the external drive where all the libraries were already downloaded. Then I did "Restore" in "Sample Store" settings.
All libraries are working normally now BUT ...

    • I see a "tap to download" status for each library in the list
    • I see "not downloaded" for every patch in patch category

So I think there is something wrong in 2.0.3 with recognizing which library is already ready to use and which needs to be downloaded first/again.
PS: I already contacted VirSyn support.

The only way to know for sure is for @VirSyn to clarify things or for someone who bought some of the packs at the time of the original release (and still has them installed in their original state) to do some size comparisons.

It would certainly be a bit off to compress all of the samples without listing this in the version history notes on the AppStore though, especially as the app publicity makes such a big deal about ‘desktop quality on your mobile’. And it would mean that original customers would get short changed twice: once because of the new pricing structure and secondly because the samples they paid for were no longer available to download at their original quality. I doubt @VirSyn would do this.

Hopefully some answers and some fixes for all the problems are coming very soon?

  • Just keep in mind that iOS, and iPadOS, already have issues with file storage being misrepresented. I don’t look at all of the software updates, and what they bring, but is it possible that some of the discrepancies could be OS related; since people are likely running different instances of iOS/iPadOS?

  • Just a heads up, I’m not sure if it’s the same for XinematiX only users but for people who use both XinematiX and AudioLayer there is a separate storage for both of them and it is called Harry Gohs.
You won’t see exactly how much XinematiX takes up in storage, you’ll see the sum of both.
This is what makes sharing these instruments between XinematiX and AudioLayer possible.
XinematiX does weigh somewhere around 1.5 gig and I’m not sure why is that if it doesn’t store any samples but I have no clue why.

  • Hello I moved all of my files to hard drive, deleted and reinstalled XinematiX to free up space on my iPad. Nothings happening, and it’s crashed a few times. My storage is set to the file on the hard drive, any ideas?

"Scheduled for Apr 24, 2024. In this episode of "How to App on iOS". I'll be checking out the MASSIVE pricing and storage update for the Incredibly Cool XinematiX by Harry Gohs (Virsyn)."

The problem here is that iOS is freeing temporarily needed storage in a very strange way. If you really need the storage again it will free it before, but otherwise needs a long time to report the memory which is really free.

I have to use temporary storage for downloading extracting the files before storing on ssd.

I can confirm that they are actually missing, but this is a bug and will be fixed very soon.
