Your best track of 2023

I know there a few weeks before the end of the year but I thought I would carry on the long tradition (well it started last year) of having a thread for your ‘best’ track of the year…. Just one each please 🙏

Not necessarily the one that gathered the most listens, comments, likes or money but the one that, overall, you were happiest with.

To start the ball rolling here is mine, all played on GeoShred (what else 😊)…

  • I've written more songs this year than any other (21 in total), but the one I'm happiest with was a collaboration with @JanKun that started as an acoustic demo which I then sent to him, and which he turned into a cinematic epic:

Very lyrical playing. The combination of Geoshred with the bell-like synth patch is beautiful.

  • I remember that one @richardyot , it’s a great collaboration 👌

  • Hey Tony. I guess I missed last year’s best track thread. This one actually goes back a few years, but it’s still one of my favorites.

  • It’s hard to choose as the other track I was tempted to post is so completely different (dark noire-ey soundtrack style orchestral).

But I think I’ll post the dumb one:

  • Not my best mixing work but far work my favorite composition of the year.

  • Not mine, but the track I’m most happy with 2023!

Made a cover then suddenly out of nowhere @Phil999 decided to sing to it! It made me really happy, and in another thread the forum climate is discussed. This gift from Phil is the pure essence of music making and this forum to me, just having fun and sharing knowledge.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

  • Probably this one from February. It's the one that resonates the most for me.

  • This version of "The Collector's Heart".

Instead of coming up with the idea in the DAW itself, I notated it out as melody and chord symbols on top. The idea was to create a piece of Trance that touched upon the Rondo song form.

  • I think your track is a couple of years old @Paulieworld but it’s improving like a good wine. I said at the time I had idea how you did your tracks and I’m still none the wiser but the end result speak for itself 👌

My dumbness detector didn’t go off @klownshed , incredibly catchy !

Very nice @jdp000 , subtle changes throughout and a lovely feel to the whole piece.

Didn’t know the track @DMan , thoroughly enjoyed it 👍

It’s a great track @DavidEnglish , I can only guess as to what it means to you given the circumstances . I’m glad your still creating 🙏

Some great changes in feel and pace @jwmmakerofmusic , catchy tune, harpsichords, banging rhythm, what else could you want? 🤨

Thanks mate. :) Although odd choice of emoji, lol.

  • I see what you mean @jwmmakerofmusic , could be taken the wrong way, absolutely no negative vibes intended 🙃

This is a track I have submitted to the "Song of the month club" where I have received a lot of good advices (thanks again guys). I have adapted the best I can and hope that it is now a finished song

I just did this yesterday right before releasing the album it’s on (which I thought I posted here but apparently I forgot to do so!) . It’s a cover of the title screen music from the NES Metroid done with Mersenne, Tera pro, IVCS3, AddStation, and LaPlace. Drums done in GarageBand

    Edit

Ahh I did post the album… I overlooked it 😂

LOL! I had a feeling it was meant in positive light, but was confused at first. All good mate. :) Cheers.

The best one is always the last one. I made this for a wake up alarm sound using GarageBand on my iPhone.

    But I think it’s hella sexy 😏

I started looking through my soundcloud listings and decided to go with the most improvised track of the year. I sat down with my new “PianoTeq 8” app at the Casio PX560 digital piano and just started playing piano again… something I have done since my 20’s but never recorded. Well, Pianoteq 8 has feature where is archives anything you play and it can be recalled. So, I went poking through the archived MIDI data and exported a segment and created a project with it in AUM using LK to playback my improvisation.

It’s probably the track that most sounds like me since there’s no generators involved and of course, it’s sounds very human since I didn’t pay any attention to a clock, click track or drum machine. It has the odd “bad note” but still… it’s me making music the way I taught myself to play it just for my own enrichment and pleasure.

The “Noise” app lines are improvised over the PianoTeq 8 rendering.

This is the only song I managed to complete this year. So that make it the best by default.

  • I was most pleased with this one, I think.

Very nice playing Tony, I bought Geoshred on black Friday after hearing a couple of your tunes.

The sound your are using is great. Is that stock Geoshred sound or a external synth?

This is my personal favorite I’ve released this year though I have a full project coming soon. (Sorry not near my iPad so can’t properly embed the track)

I liked this too. Folks touched on ways to achieve musical immortality in another thread recently, and physical media was one of the options mooted, so print this out and put it somewhere safe.

I didn't stop there... but I'm not sure what follows is going to make it for a 2023 thread!
