Very moved to have been included in the selection of two of my favourites artists on this forum.

@richardyot extremely proud and thankful for the 3 beautiful songs you kindly let me work on this year. Merci mon ami !

@rottencat glad to see Sparrow here. I just listened to it after a long while, still loving the vibe. Hands down, the favourite lyrics I wrote this year. I am also extremely proud I made sure absolutely no one could grasp a single word I sang 😉!

I released many tracks I am really happy with this year, especially some of my orchestral work, but my favourite track for this year has to be this one:

Listen to Somewhere Nicer (Oripeaux) by JanKun

My dumbness detector didn’t go off @klownshed , incredibly catchy !

    Thanks for listening :)

I know there a few weeks before the end of the year but I thought I would carry on the long tradition (well it started last year) of having a thread for your ‘best’ track of the year…. Just one each please 🙏

Not necessarily the one that gathered the most listens, comments, likes or money but the one that, overall, you were happiest with.

To start the ball rolling here is mine, all played on GeoShred (what else 😊)…

Very chill — like the title.

You’ve made Geoshred sound very convincing there. I wouldn’t have known you weren’t playing guitar if you hadn’t said.

I have managed to completely ignore geoshred and stuff like SWAM. After hearing this I think I should investigate further… :)

Probably this one. Reminds of Saint Étienne, but wasn’t really going for that.

  • For me it was more of a live performance than a track, I've been doing longer improvised pieces more than shorter studio tracks these days.

I've written more songs this year than any other (21 in total), but the one I'm happiest with was a collaboration with @JanKun that started as an acoustic demo which I then sent to him, and which he turned into a cinematic epic:

@JanKun + @richardyot : what awesomeness can’t you achieve together? You exploded my fuckthisisgood- meter.

Hey Tony. I guess I missed last year’s best track thread. This one actually goes back a few years, but it’s still one of my favorites.

Ohhhhhhhhh ! This one is excellent too! It would really deserve a little more bass though. Just put it in Logic Pro and use th3 magic master thing.

It’s hard to choose as the other track I was tempted to post is so completely different (dark noire-ey soundtrack style orchestral).

But I think I’ll post the dumb one:

That is definitely not dumb. I loved how it evolve and the sound is great!

Not my best mixing work but far work my favorite composition of the year.

Pretty good too! I enjoyed it, and really enjoyed the second half.

Not mine, but the track I’m most happy with 2023!

Made a cover then suddenly out of nowhere @Phil999 decided to sing to it! It made me really happy, and in another thread the forum climate is discussed. This gift from Phil is the pure essence of music making and this forum to me, just having fun and sharing knowledge.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

    / DMfan🇸🇪

    Great collab!

Probably this one from February. It's the one that resonates the most for me.

I’ll just copy and paste my comment on YT 10 months ago: “Soft subtle moody atmosphere. Another great piece of music.”
    Love all your work.

This is a track I have submitted to the "Song of the month club" where I have received a lot of good advices (thanks again guys). I have adapted the best I can and hope that it is now a finished song

Not what I listen to, but it is very well made. The rumbling basses sound great in my ears.

    iOS:

    HW (it’s 26min set, 8 patterns)

Great use of NS2! I love it.
I’ll have to listen to the second one, but the beginning sounds super clean.

I started looking through my soundcloud listings and decided to go with the most improvised track of the year. I sat down with my new “PianoTeq 8” app at the Casio PX560 digital piano and just started playing piano again… something I have done since my 20’s but never recorded. Well, Pianoteq 8 has feature where is archives anything you play and it can be recalled. So, I went poking through the archived MIDI data and exported a segment and created a project with it in AUM using LK to playback my improvisation.

It’s probably the track that most sounds like me since there’s no generators involved and of course, it’s sounds very human since I didn’t pay any attention to a clock, click track or drum machine. It has the odd “bad note” but still… it’s me making music the way I taught myself to play it just for my own enrichment and pleasure.

The “Noise” app lines are improvised over the PianoTeq 8 rendering.

This one really moved me. I don’t know why. Maybe because I do the same a lot.

This is the only song I managed to complete this year. So that make it the best by default.

I don’t know why you didn’t complete your other work but I know for sure you should. I want more.

I was most pleased with this one, I think.

That is crazy good too, very evocative and haunting.

So much diverse sounds and so much talent on audiobus. You’re no exception.
    This one sounds super good.

Thank you Jo. I have 2 songs in the can that I can hopefully complete during the holiday break.

  • Thanks @ecou , as an ex (bad) guitar player GeoShred just works for me. I change the layout to a standard 6 string guitar layout to make it easier for me. Preset is a standard GS one but I’ve lost track of which one 🤨
Thanks @belldu , it means a lot to me that you’ve taken the time to do that. Much appreciated 🙏
Cheers @klownshed , this one didn’t use any SWAM just BeatHawk Harp and Bass which were played in one session (you can point each string of GS at a separate instrument) and then the GS lead was played over the top.
    👍 @jo92346

Cinematic and epic indeed. The instrumental parts evoke memories of 1960s British TV like Randall and Hopkirk (deceased) — a great collaboration. You two should form a band :-)

Don’t know if it’s my best,it’s a little messy but it’s my favorite so far. It’s a song I wrote for my daughter (6) about her favorite animal. Favorite because it’s in 4/7 time and it’s got her singing on it. So there’s that.

I rarely use the actual digital piano but mostly because I’m on the couch with headphone alternating reading and creating tracks. So, I have gravitated to generators and improvising with a 2 octave bluetooth keyboard or midi/pencil composing in Staffpad.

    Best?

I only actually finished one, so it’s probably that one (which is actually a collaboration with @Svetlovska ).
