Best/most popular delay?

So what is your go-to delay plugin on iPad? On desktop it clearly is EchoBoy or Valhalla Delay for me with beautiful algorithms and lots of character.
But what is it for you on iPad?
I’m curious to hear.

Those 2 are top notch, nothing comparable on IOS imho B)
But to complement them IceWorks Kajita and Audio Thing Mantis come to mind.
In early days (a decade ago) I used Holderness Media’s EchoPad a lot. It‘s very tweakable and still on the appstore.
ps: atm a Lexicon Vortex is my goto Delay (it‘s in the signal path anyway)

  • For me it would be FF Timeless or AD Dub Delay for normal use. For more extreme fx I use the Iceworks fx and TTAP.

  • I use eventide ultratap. After I got it, my search for delay was finished.

  • FF Timeless and Other Desert Cities

Super complete delay : FabFilter Timeless
If you want something similar that cost less (with less options): Other Desert Cities
If you want something weird and fun: TTAP (I never know what I'm doing when I use it)
If you want something really cool and free: Chow Matrix
If you want something really cool and free part 2: DLYM
If you want something simple and free: Delay from Nembrini
If you want cool experimental delay, try Kajita
If you want a cool tap tempo delay, try Yukawa

These are the holy trinity for me.

I have Eventide UltraTap, but I don’t find myself reaching for it. No actual reason for this…just I am delay rich I guess.
Lately I find myself going thru a demo project with different track types (drums, bass, synth, chords, and vox) and evaluating plug ins I have but don’t use. If I deem them something meh, or something I’m just not feeling …I uninstall them. I’ve erased 5 plug ins in just a few sessions.

I did this last month with synths and got myself much lighter in choices.

When I am done I will not be covered up in choosing…which will simplify my workflow (hopefully)

  • For just a simply classic digital delay nothing sounds better than Tfx echo imo. I also love Kosmonaut and UltraTap.

  • Timeless is my most used and favorite by far but I’m also just a sucker for a good delay. I love the classic GSI clones for vintage stuff. TTAP and UltraTap can get weird. Tap Delay is great for making noisy endless delay loops. Ratshack is quick, dirty, and fun. Lastly MagicDelay. It gets a lot of use too.

And then apps like Woodulator, Bleass Delay are great for pitch shifting delays.

  • Weed. 😶‍🌫️ It really delays my mind, lol.

Kidding, I like Bleass Delay. ☺️

  • For straightforward simple tape delays K7D is fantastic. For deep experimental taps ChowMatrix is amazing.

I can barely make anything without k7d, it's like butter in a sandwich for me

  • I dream of a delay like the Octavox for PC where you can select the pitch of the delayed notes.

It’s one of those apps I rarely use and every time I do I think to myself “why don’t I use this more often?!” DLYM too. It’s gotta be one of the best free apps available.

I sold my favorite Valhalla Delay last week because I just want to make music on the iPad only. For basic delays, the TH-U FX pack is enough for me, but for tape or BBD I would need something better. I will try K7D, thanks for recommendation.

A couple other recommendations to look at: TD-21, AU3FX: Dub, Tap Delay, the GSI apps (Varispeed, Echo B2, etc), Timeless (my favorite), PD-1, Tape Pro, Reelbus, Mantis, and RatShack. And someone posted a patch for Drambo on the front page too.

All of those are tape and BBD delay apps and worth looking into :)

    Welcome to the iPad club!

Virsyn Harmony Eight is somewhat similar.
For more control, I'd bake me a Drambo patch.

  • No love for RE-1 tape delay?. It’s the delay I’ve used the most. Good compromise between features and ease of use. For routine delay tasks I find something like Dessert Cities a bit overkill.

Yes I have it in my basic template 👍 it’s so good and very well designed indeed

  • There are too many to list them all, but the ones I can’t live without are:

    • Desktop: Logic Delay Designer, Timeless, and Sandman Pro.
    • iOS: Timeless and ChowMatrix.

I'm glad to see so many of you love UltraTap, it’s a monster of a delay. 🤗

I have overlooked this one, seems to be good for voices. On sale atm. Are people using it?

I just recent got it during the sale and I’ve been really missing out. Thought the Virsyn app had me covered but it’s actually really unique in it’s implementation.

  • Actually, this is a question with an almost impossible answer, there are so many good delays and they are all different. Just like cooking every dish needs different spices to get there.

  • On the iPad it's now mostly Logic's delays. They're really good and obviously make it easy to move projects to the Mac.

I also like K7D for tape delay, sometimes RE-1 but K7D is so quick and easy to get set up. I also have K7D for Mac. Logic's tape delay is really good but I'll often use K7D instead. On the Mac I usually use either IK or Arturia's Roland 201 space echo clones for tape delay.

I like Logic's guitar pedal delays too. They shouldn't be overlooked :-)

Audio damage dub station is cool.

Ice works Yukawa for multi tap stuff, sometimes even tide ultra tap but I prefer Yukawa.

Wires would be high on the list but I haven’t yet bought it for iOS, I use it as a dirty tape delay all the time on the Mac.

On the Mac I use a ton of different delays. I love delays. I'll often set up multiple busses with different delays on sends and will then send different instruments to different delays, and often multiple sends at the same time. I'll then automate the sends to make interesting atmospherics that I might then resample and use as audio regions.

If there is one type of effect that I just can't have enough of, it must be the delay 😊
A boring sound fed into different delay plugins can be so inspiring!

  • Forgot one:

FAC Bandit. Fantastic when you want to target a specific frequency with delay. I usually use delays on sends and more often than not high pass the channel so I don't get too much bass in the delay lines to muddy up the mix but Bandit can do this instantly which can be cool, especially for stuff like a drum loop or drum machine plugin that doesn't have separate outs; You can put delay (or whatever other effect from Bandit) on just the high hats really easily for example.

I used FAC Bandit to make a DrumBrute sample I made sound stereo when it was recorded mono (the drum brute Impact has 4 separate outs but I just recorded the main mono out when I was messing about and ended up using it in a song -- FAC bandit added delay to just the hi-hats and I think it sounded great).

Yes, we all know this. Please, you two, spit out your recent favorites, I’m very interested. 😂 And you can change your mind after you hit the “post” button, no one will blame you, haha.

  • Dedalus by Amazing Noises is also a really interesting delay effect.
