Didn’t see anyone mention Modley. Pretty decent modular multiFX built around a delay.

Modley is really really great! One of those ones I keep meaning to use more. Super powerful.

I bought Modley two months ago, it was a true revelation for me. How did I miss this, I don’t know. I didn’t have time to play with it seriously, but it has great potential. Those “pre” and “post” lanes and multiband gate module sold it for me.

The OP question was about the best or most popular delay, so I guess lots of marginal and unique delays will be left out.

Lemme ask…with Drambo, the delay fx rack seems like it’s capable of something similar no? Or is Modley way beyond what Drambo can do there? Because I never bought Modley just because of what’s possible with Drambos effects.

Every reverb and every delay theoretically do the same thing, but in practice, all of them sound differently.

Of course, you can reproduce this in dRambo, and even more. I tried many times to replace one of my frequently used delays, just because I don’t want to be too dependent on one product. Yes, you can make the same timing and taps, but the final sound is always different, and those small differences you can’t change. It's like choosing an electric guitar, every one of them is technically identical but still sounds differently.

Another thing that I discovered is that every FX has its own "soul" because the UI, or those small differences, or the way that they were designed, lead you in different directions of creativity. They even inspired you to make something completely different. Then again, it depends on how you make music, we all know that for making a masterpiece, only one instrument is enough.

p.s. It's coffee, it was not strong enough this morning, and I’m still half a asleep. 😂

Well yeah I know all that 😜 I was just wondering if Modley was capable of something so amazing and mind bending that even Drambo couldn’t do it lol.

It definitely seems to have its own thing going in regards to UI and workflow. Sound too based on demos. I simply just don’t need it. I’m tempted because I looove delays. But I’m trying my best not to buy anything right now since I’m saving up for a couple of hardware pieces.

As a fellow coffee fiend, it’s always okay to have another cup 😉

You don’t understand, it was a monologue about justifying the purchase, haha! I’m going to multi-tap more coffee now. 😅

This time I want the opposite 😂😭😭

I swore I wouldn’t buy anymore apps until the new year lol. I gotta get my hardware in check first. Or try too 😅

Did your wife make you move into this tiny house as a way of trying to get you to buy less hardware, and to have to sell some of your existing collection, by any chance? 😂

😂😂😂 it definitely seems that way lol but to be honest I had already paired down before we moved as we lived in a tiny apartment so all I had was my 707, OP-1, and my few little pocket synths (volcas, etc). I think I’ve grown out of my hardware hoarder phase as well. I know at one point I had about 16 synths at one time 😅 now I’m most inspired when I have a couple of really fun+powerful pieces of gear. That’s why I’m aiming for the 101+404. Both send midi and audio over usb as well which will just make everything okay together nicely.
