Wow, amazing discount. How good is this for ambient/downtempo? I saw a bit of demos on YT but most of them are playing rock/blues/metal stuff.

Yea the other app Riffler Flow is better for downtempo type stuff, but you could use the AU midi to make whatever you want.
Oh great, so the main difference between the apps is just the guitar types/sounds?
Riffler makes tight metal riffs with lots of notes, runs and palm muting, Flow makes more relaxed patterns suited to acoustic, clean or slightly overdriven guitar. Both are fantastic. Also, try their clean dry sounds with guitar apps like Rhino or Nembrini.
I don’t know if this was posted before, but I just got the zenbeats unlock for iPad for ~10$ (usually ~15$).
My hesitation pays off. 😛

Why wouldn’t you just generate midi?
I have no idea. I guess it’s geared towards sheet music musicians who are looking to practice or write, whatever it generates. Then it has XML, MIDI, and I think audio export.

Does not spit out good music, sadly. Very random results. Usable for my purposes, and might yield the occasional inspiring phrase - but only by happy accident.
Terrible at time signatures - and I will never understand why this is such a universal limitation among music software.
Let me add the limitation to preset scales only.
I wonder if it might be worth you hunting down some fake book PDFs, where the melodies should at least be decent?
Got no shortage of sheet music - and already use Genius Jam Tracks for playing through standards. That's more of an exercise in memory and improv though. I was hoping for a good source of inspiration for original material, but this will still be useful enough for getting some different phrases under my fingers at least.
