What host? I mostly use Logic Pro…maybe it’s Logic? It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to me.
What host?
Why are you thanking me? Is this sarcasm? Either way, you are welcome dogg!
Ah, should have mentioned that of course. It's mainly AUM for me but I have opened Gadgets in: Cubase, Logic and NanoStudio2 but no hard testing or lengthy projects in either of them (except AUM), no crashes either though.
Loopy Pro, AUM, and EG Nodes mostly.
What host are you using? If it's not Logic Pro then I'll spend some time experimenting in it.
I’ve only used them in Logic Pro…Sydney crashes upon picking it, and then sometimes it works or sometimes it crashes…maybe I need to restart the iPad everytime I use gadget plugs? I’ll try this and see if this helps, a few more crash too…it seems to me the newer gadgets crash more than the original gadgets so I suspect maybe it a cache thing…and hearing people are not at all having issues, now makes me think maybe so.
Okay, I’ve went back and restarted the iPad…I can’t play any gadget or automate and knobs on any gadgets from the plug in themselves. I haven’t tried all of them yet but I will. I tried like 10 of them same stuff. I need to map cc’s to automate anything on the Gadgets in Logic. I also have to Play them from the Logic play surfaces for
them to record. So maybe I am doing something wrong?
Now upon further review I am finding (in Logic) There seems to be a few variations of what’s possible with a plug in. FOR EXAMPLE: in fabfilter twin3 I am able to record the keyboard of the ui, as well as automate the knobs without selecting (write automation), in a few others you must write automation…but it doesn’t work for the plug in keyboard, and then for gadgets none of it is working and you will have to use smart controllers and assign cc. I am trying a shed load of plugs so I may find more.
I’m goin back in…Sunday fun day
Yippee
+warszawa seems to have no presets at all. <—and having only 1 wavetable oscillator makes this an unpopular plug in for my use…especially when you add in the whole assigning time associated with it. I guess it’s value is more so in Gadget or its stand alone version only…but even Roland’s NZyme is better than this…and NZyme is kinda worthless when you have any other decent wavetable synth.
Weirdly enough..Korg gadget AU lets you think a plug in you don’t own is available…so remember them names folks…and whatever you try to load after that from Korg may crash unless you first remove the plug in completely and then things carry on as normal. Got this result 3 times in a row…with Edina (i don’t own) and then immediately replacing it with Dublin crashed every single time…but removing the Edina plug in completely from the track and then putting in Dublin worked. The gadget picture icons would be useful in Logic instead of the same icon for every gadget. Seems easy to remedy maybe they will, even though small, this would be a great update.
*sidenote…why would anybody use Dublin if they have Moog mini D, Trooper, or any other Moog Mini knockoff? Moog Model D does take a bit more cpu, but the sound is way better…just use freeze. It will not be usefulness and sound quality that makes the decision to use Gadgets over better plugs.
Kamala crashed on me 2 times, reboot iPad and it loaded and worked…so Kamala may crash on you. Replacing Kamala with Kiev resulted in a disable plug in or reload menu…in which reload produced no sound. Loading a different 3rd party plug in worked, then reloading Kiev still no sound. Closing logic completely then reopening logic yielded a working Kiev.
Recife crashed a few times…when switching drum kits, restart iPad fixes this so far…memory issue?
Santa Ana can’t be a replacement for another plug in instrument in Logic it crashes every time…remove the plug in and it loads fine.
I’ve went thru the remain alphabetized list…had a few more crashes…similar criteria.
LOGIC MOBILE USERS:
1. You can’t record the playing of the Gadgets on the UI of the plug, and to automate them you will have to assign CCs (all of them) I have thoroughly tested this…it does not work yet. May never work. Big companies don’t always fix things quickly or at all. So using Korg Gadgets in Logic will be a far more step driven process if you want to automate parameters…at the least you have to push the midi icon to the left top side of the gadget and pick a controller cc lane add a controller lane and draw it in. (at least they labeled these for you, it could have been worse)
When instantiating Korg gadget plug ins, it is wise to REMOVE the current plug in (especially if it is also from Gadget) if you have one loaded and then add the gadget, as replacing (mostly on sample based gadgets) may and will crash your project. Logic may or may not have auto saved. So ignore this advice at the peril of your work.
Outside sounds (user sounds) may not be available at all depending on the gadget and as others have said… may have to reside in multiple places taking up multiple spaces, at the luxury of storage space.
MOST IMPORTANT! Before using Gadgets in Logic Pro Mobile Make sure you have restarted your iPad because this helps tremendously…
I hope this helps everyone out.
I’m gonna definitely concede that the usefulness of some of these outside Gadget is minimal (depending on your host, Sydney does come to mind). Within Gadget though, depending on what you’re doing and how you work, indispensable imo. Saving many inst slots with Sydney vs Zurich.
I’m sure all these weird quirks will be ironed out and I’ll be honest I had put down Gadget for a bit but KORG has sucked me back in. There’s a bunch it can’t do, but what it does do it does really well. It’s definitely a workflow/ymmv type deal.
Great detail @MrSmileZ .
I can't do any testing in Logic Pro, but I'll try loading an unowned plugin then replacing it with another in a few other hosts. Maybe there's a repeatable bug there that's not isolated to just Logic Pro. If so then I'll report it to Korg.
As for using something like Dublin rather than a more full featured plugin ... for me the answer is simply "because it's fun and sometimes inspires something a little different". I guess my outlook is what the heck? They were free and unexpected. There's fun to be had.
Crashes though are no damn fun for anyone. So I'm up for trying to report anything that can be reproduced.
The icons though? Ugh. I'm finally starting to remember which city is which plugin, but it's a pain in the butt to remember what track you want in DAWs that only display an icon. I really hope they improve that.
Ok there is the usefulness of Sydney in gadget…thanks I didn’t think of that! So yes Sydney is useful for dragging in multiple record takes from Zurich. Now I see.
Can’t argue with fun…. I mainly could see people needing it for cpu needs…but the sound (to me) is so non-Umph in comparison, and Moog is usually known for its fatness.
Question: if I had a loop of say rhythm guitar in Sydney, and then changed the project tempo, would the loop get timestretched to the new tempo? If so I can see a use case for me.
You're right. Some plugins like Berlin and Phoenix has Bend/Mod wheels inside the plugin, so Garage Band overwrite the value. As you said, maybe this is the only situation, so no big deal.
As for as I know you (from last year, maybe 2022) XCode force your app extensions (in this case AUv3) to have the same icon as the main app, so this may be an Apple/iOS limitation.
I don't know if they updated that in the last months, tho.
Does anyone knows another app with many AUv3 plugins?
Excellent point! I hadn't thought of that.
Ahh well.
I haven't been able to replicate this in any other app that allows replacing plugins. The issue might be restricted to just Logic Pro. I don't have Logic Pro, so won't be doing a bug report to Korg. Maybe you or someone else can. It may not get fixed otherwise.
Anyone who feels like Korg may hear them, may copy my post and send it along. I spent over 5 hours with Korg today in Logic Pro time to escape it for a day or so…lol. My testing was only in Logic Pro
Yes, I just checked it in AUM
Thanks 👍
Post the your bug report here https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us
Korg will read it and you'll get an e-mail when they act on it.
After 6.0.1 update for Gadget 3 dropped I've had no crashes in LogicPro for iPad 1.1 on my 11" M1 iPadPro running iPadOS17.2.
AUv3 automation from the plug-in UI doesn't work properly yet but drawing automation works as expected...
Hi,
I have Ipad version and brought the Mac version to be able to sync between ipad and mac/Ableton Apps. When i sync none of my samples in Blbao Abu Dhabi sync across? is this a bug?
Thanks
@TwistedGenetics Don’t have Gadget on desktop myself. But according to this info should be possible though iCloud:
https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/articles/115001288803-Syncing-with-Bilbao-AbuDhabi-samples
This is ok for syncing from Mac to iPad but I’m working the other way around I’m sure there’s bugs as I have the iCloud folder on all devices with same samples in as a test and nothing syncs 😂
I tested all of that thoroughly, multiple times per gadget. It’s accurate. I can repeat it all.
I also left information on how to avoid the problems until Korg fixes Gadget.
It could even be an Apple problem…I don’t know, nor do I care. I simply spent some free time to try and help out other users of Logic and Gadget. I feel that if they follow the few steps when using the plugs they’ll be able to avoid it.
Auv3 automation from the plug itself doesn’t work at all… I tried on all of them, both write modes.
If I remember correctly, Logic Pro expects a certain kind of reporting of touch events in the AU that is more restrictive than what many hosts have been using. I believe some plugins have had to issue updates for parameter recording movements to work.
Loving Gadget 3.0, but I’m having an issue with user samples making no sound or going missing when loading up a saved project on Gadget.
I have imported multiple folders filled with samples into the iCloud folder Korg Gadget/User Samples. I can browse them just fine from the sample selector on Gadgets like Abu Dhabi, Sydney and Stockholm. Worked fine for a while, but recently when I open my project and pressed play there was no sound from Abu Dhabi. I see that the sample is loaded, but makes no sound, I need to reload the sample for it to work again.
Worst case was when it did not even show the sample name, just N/A and I had to browse the folders and find the sample again, luckily I remembered which one it was. I wonder why is this happening? I think it might be some issue with my iCloud drive or the files app, because I kinda overloaded it by downloading like a 100 gigs of samples and it got really laggy for a few hours trying to sync everything, plus my local storage got filled and had to delete a bunch of apps, it should all be settling down by now, but I’m getting this missing samples issue every time I reopen my Gadget project after closing the Gadget app.
This is on ipad pro 12.9 (2020) on iPadOS 16.3 btw
Other annoying bugs I found:
User presets sometimes don’t seem to save or appear on other instances of the same instruments. Had to keep trying until it worked.
Keys on the new Play page get stuck. These new keys with vertical axis for velocity (great addition) can get stuck if you tap multiples keys right next to each other at the same time, when you lift your finger from the screen one of the keys remains stuck for a bit, which ruins the flow of your melodies and chord progressions.
@Nimgwen Gadget 6.0.2 update fixed my iCloud projects not appearing in the list on iPhone.
Perhaps it also fixes some of your iCloud user samples issues?
Sadly it seems like the bug is still present, although it is rather minor. Basically when I open the project it looks like the samples are loaded and everything is fine, but when you press play no sound comes out from those sampler gadgets, until you reload the sample or reload the preset which contains that sample. Thankfully it only takes a couple of seconds to fix it.
I wonder if this bug is stuck on this project file, maybe on a new project this does not happen anymore…
Anyway I wanted to report this bug to Korg, but on their report form they ask for a “Product Code” and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to put there. Do you know about this?
That bug has been in gadget forever. I just got used to naming the track with my sample for easy reupload to the gadget.
I guess it is meant for the KORG Shop, where you buy products and get the codes.
Try leave it blank or fill with 00's.
