Well I went to Gadget extra settings (on the iPadOS settings) and on utility there is an option to make Gadget start as a blank project. Now when I load the project the samples are properly loaded. So it seems that reloading the whole project fixes all the samples at once. Seems my issue is with this new autosave function which opens up Gadget in the state you left it (this is new right ? I don’t remember Gadget ever auto saved)
Nice catch! Works for me too. The auto save thing has always been there I think, I wasn’t aware you could turn it off 👍
Sale ends today, 31st
Can’t decide 🫣
I know, I’ve been trying to decide if I really “need” these Korg synths:
iMonoPoly
iPolySix
iMs-20
iM1
I have everything else.
Anyone have a favorite out of these four?
iM1 is a preset powerhouse, and Japanese synths have the best stock presets. Useful and inspiring sounds, weird sounds, and classic samples. I just looked it up, and it has over 3000 presets.
iMonoPoly has one of the most neutral, most versatile timbres. When you're writing a song, and you need a sound that fits, iMonoPoly always fits.
Personally, I prefer the sound of iMonoPoly over iPolySix, but I haven't compared the two in-depth.
iMS-20 is based on a synth that is hard to emulate, it's one of Korg's oldest apps, and I'm not sure to what extent the DSP code has been updated. The point is, I personally don't think it captures the vibe of the MS-20, whereas I think Arp Odyssei sounds more like the original than Behringer's analog hardware clone.
iM1 is more fun, iMonoPoly is arguably more essential. They're both probably in my top 3, as far as Korg software goes.
Korg iM1 - no question asked...
If you also invest in the IAP cards you get A LOT of wonderful patches from the history of the M1 (number 1 in the world, sold units)...
Also, iM1 sounds really really great!!
IM1 is fantastic.
Both gadget and NanoStudio are apps I’ve used to pretend I know how to write and/ or produce IEM, just as a fun activity as I mainly work as an engineer, both live and recording, on music that is played by live musicians. It’s really fun to explore sounds and textures sometimes though, and now combining gadget and NanoStudio is kind of the best of both. I really love nanostudio’s sequencer, and it’s a good AU host too. But one thing I’ve loved about gadget’s synths is that that are dedicated to a specific task each, and sometimes that helps me focus.
All in all, cool! I’m noticing in the past few months though that at 49, I think I need glasses, small print and the iPad screen in general are getting blurry sometimes. Oh well.
@Skyblazer @HolyMoses and @cyberheater
That sounded like 3 votes for iM1… thanks!
So I took advantage of the last day of the sale and purchased it, along with the two extra cards.
I do not enjoy the MS-20 sound that much by itself, well mainly due to my ignorance of how to properly use mono-synths, but the MS-20 gadget is essential for me because it is the only way to route audio internally inside Gadget and I love routing Stockholm into MS-20 and then applying the filters/envelopes/modulation and the FXs, like the grain shifter, which are not available to Stockholm, this allows you to create some really crazy textures by heavily processing rex loops and it’s all automatable with Gadget’s sequencer.
I really like the new pitch shifter effect they added. Mixing in some pitch shifted signal can really add some extra depth and bring more life to the sounds. I like to use -12 or -7.
I compared it to the one Logic Pro and the Gadget one sounds better to me.
Wow I’ve been so obsessed with using the AUv3s that I forgot Gadget itself had a pretty massive update with the new effects. Thanks for the reminder haha.
Yeah I wasn’t aware of the new effects inside the Gadget app itself either.
iMS-20 is actually component emulation or circuit emulation rather than DSP in the conventional sense of DSP – it’s effectively an in-circuit emulator running the circuit of an MS-20 and this approach has a few different proprietary names – ah I’ve found what Korg calls theirs
(From here: https://www.korg.com/uk/products/software/ims_20_for_ipad/page_1.php )
Woah interesting. I believe there was another app (not Korg) released lately that did something similar but I can’t remember which app I read that for. The MS-20 is my favorite synth of all time but I never got around to buying plugin version. Now that I’ve sold mine I might have to do it.
Since last update 6.0.2. I’m experiencing an annoying problem where Gadget becomes unresponsive for about 8 seconds.
This occurs every time I switch to another app (or even do a swipe-up to change volume) and come back to Gadget.
I have the feeling this might be caused by Gadget contacting iCloud to sync the poject list. Since they fixed something with the project lists in this update.
Anyone else having this?
Nope but I'm not using iCloud with Gadget...
The new 'Play Surface' still has some glitches and the issue I reported has not been closed yet so they are still working on it, it's a bit better but still 'gets stuck' for 1-2 seconds on fast legato-play.
Just bombard them with feedback
I’ve never seen them close any of my reports in the past. Seems they just keep them open till you close them
And the same problem as me! And it's really uncomfortable! With Bilbao looking for samples is a nightmare! But isn't there a different way to access the files??
Korg could add support for security scoped urls (ie. pick a folder with Files.app where the samples are stored) for but that would require at least iOS16+ preferably 17+ to be somewhat reliable...
Did some troubleshooting and this is caused by folders with user samples in the Gadget folder on iCloud.
They folders didn’t even have many samples in them and this didn’t occur in the past with the same folders in iCloud…
@HolyMoses , @cyberheater , @Edward_Alexander ,
iM1 AUv3 is live!
April not-fools release XD

Oh wow that guitar gadget looks cool. Gonna pick it up later today. I missed the update as news but have been enjoying gadget as auv3
Question have not been able to find answers to…
In the arpeggio section, what does Key Sync do?
Can’t find anything in the docs…
With Key Sync on the arp starts as soon as you press a key. When off it waits for a division of the beat to stay in sync with the clock.
I was having a similar issue. When I open up the app it freezes for a bit. Also when saving a project to an iCloud folder it freezes for like 20 seconds… If I save to a local folder it does it instantly.
Interesting cause my issues started happening after I put loads of samples in there. How did you fix it? Just removed the samples from the iCloud Gadget folders?
Yeah, I had some folders with drum loops, deleting that shortened the ‘freeze’ time…
Serious question…how do all you Gadget AUv3 users remember which gadget is which?
All the AUv3 icons being identical makes it quite difficult for visually oriented people, methinks. I had always thought the city-based naming convention was kinda pointless due to its ambiguity. Now even more so.
