I am more than happy to help and very very glad it turned out like this!
Happy coding and happy sequencing!
For the people who are having some problems learning to make music with Prism, SoundForMore has started a series of his excellent YouTube tutorials.
First tutorial is at
I respect the genius behind the app, but I think my brain needs a better overview of everything at once, instead of many fragmented views, like in a traditional DAW. But maybe someone will show some great making-of-videos that make it make sense.
Heads up, the latest update has an option to disable record 'auto grow'. Hold record to see the option on the keypad.
New update live for Prism. This one fixes a ton of little bugs and wrinkles since launch. Most importantly is probably the GUI and recording clean up. Enjoy! And please let me know as you find things.
Hey @Darkstring, totally respect where you're coming from. I've struggled to figure out how to do this right and have been kind of hoping someone more proficient than me would jump in. I struggle to make music live on camera. To help I'm thinking I'll start posting short video samples of Prism in action. Nothing more than a minute of something I made off camera playing. If any of these interest you or anyone else I can then create a deconstruction video on request.
Would this be a helpful resource?
Checked out the latest update this morning.
Thank you for the auto grow toggle and for record arming too!! The pads feel better to use when sliding between regions and the UI keeps getting cleaner and cleaner too. You're absolutely cooking.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I think the one minute videos would be a great idea, you can get some really cool stuff pretty quickly here just focusing on the sequencer alone, and I think the options to mix sequences together and relate to one another are where people are really scratching their heads, visually they look more integral to creating a musical foundation in the app than they are, imo.
Treating it like a touchscreen Elektron box, without ever having used one before, really helped me conceptualize what I was working with. Trying to create with a sonic goal in mind helps keep from getting frustrating at learning a new tool. If you know what you want to change musically, you can learn how to do it quicker.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Sidenote, might buy a launchpad almost exclusively for your integration, looks very fun!
Totally worth it and highly recommended .. found a mini on Craigslist for a good price and it really takes Prism to another level
has anyone tried this with push 2? Could be amazing and fun.
I’ll have to pull up the manual for my Launchpad Pro MK3. I think accessing programmer mode is a little different on it.
Hey @Edward_Alexander,
One of the beta users has been using an MK3 with no issues. Check out the instructions below for connecting:
https://sites.google.com/view/prism-midi-sequencer/prism-launchpad
Thanks. Connection was easy, but actually getting into Programmer mode was what I had to look up.
For the record, on the LPP MK3, it’s hold the Setup button (on the lower left), then press the Print to Clip button (on the lower right).
Hey @oceansinspace, how were you looking to use Push 2 with this? It is being requested a bit and I'm wondering if people are hoping they can use the two together standalone (away from a computer or ableton) or if they're trying to create some sort of ecosystem with Ableton. The first option isn't possible as Push has to be connected to Ableton. The second is an interesting use case that I'd design around more fully if people are interested.
How do I add or edit notes in a running sequence by using the pads, but without them playing the note when I touch a pad. I only want the sequence actually generating MIDI, and the pads or other MIDI input to be quiet.
Hi @catherder
I may be wrong but I think that you can only do this for drum tracks at the moment, there’s a little mute icon at the bottom right hand corner in a drum track screen. I’m sure that if you email the dev he will consider it. Email address is on one of the pads you see if you press the gear icon.
Thanks for the suggestion. It looks to me as it is currently not possible to mute the pads. That mute button did nothing for the drum track. It would be great for Prism to have an easily accessible mute button to prevent direct MIDI output from the pads or any connected controller. I wrote an email to @A_Mortal_Mage, and he is probably reading this as well.
You can enter trigs with out midi output on the sequencer. Then you have to tap and and hold to enter trig-edit. Then you can select a new note via the keypad. You either can add chord or hold and tap on a new note to replace the old one.
It’s a workaround I guess but it works quite nice! You also could mute the track and then record notes into it. Also a workaround..
Hope that helps
Hey @catherder,
Everyone here is spot on in assessments. Thanks for helping @DblU
two notes:
1) I'll add the ability to mute with toned keypads
2) Currently the drum mute only applies while the sequence is actually playing. I figured it wouldn't have a negative impact if they still fired MIDI while paused/stopped, and might make the overall playing experience smoother. @catherder , let me know your thoughts on this implementation. I'm def open to hearing why it should be an all across mute.
From my live jamming experience - specially when playing with others - I would prefer a mute button that always works. The reason is that when I play improvised, I sometimes prepare a bass line or similar sequence while playing other gear. And I don’t want to hear any notes before the “official start” of that sequence.
BTW that brings an interesting feature into my mind, that I love to see in sequencers: The ability to clock the sequencer with pulses in the form of a specific note or CC message instead of using host / midi or link.
@catherder
That makes perfect sense! Thanks for explaining the use case, that always helps me wrap my head around the need and how it fits with the whole image. I've never done much live-jammiing with others, I'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement across the board. No one has yet to rave about the current implementation either. I'll switch up the styles when I add the tone mute button.
This is an interesting idea. I could def get around something like that when I dig deeper into a standalone version / freeing up clock and sync options. For reference, do you have an example of something that's implemented this?
look what i accidentally found![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)

I started a thread about this a while ago:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/59757/list-of-midi-plugins-that-can-use-midi-notes-or-cc-as-clock-instead-of-host-sync#latest
I need to add miRack, because all Eurorack gear uses clock pulses.
And there are a couple of Mozaic scripts like "Sequence your Keys" that I made, that have this feature:
https://patchstorage.com/sequence-your-keys-the-sq-1-companion/
What I like about using notes instead of the clock messages that run at 24ppq, is that it is much easier to start a sequencer on the beat. And it comes closest and integrates best with clocking Eurorack and modular gear.
I just got a Launchpad Mini MK3. The Prism integration is fantastic. I do have one question though:
How do I mute / solo a track from the Launchpad ?
Hey @catherder
If you hold the mute button (the third from the right, next to the copy and paste buttons) and press a track you can mute it. I don't have a way to solo directly from the launchpad yet. I can give it some thought. Maybe set it up so if you long press the track while holding mute it solos instead of muting. I'll play around with it.
P.S I'll get the other changes i mentioned up soon. I've been on vacation and don't have my programmers laptop on me
For an anyone who’s having a hard time wrapping their head around Prism, struggling to figure out a workflow for this fantastic sequencer or just on the fence about buying it, I highly recommend the Prism video tutorials @sfm is putting out ..
I’ve been using Prism for months now - ever since beta testing began - and I’m still finding plenty to learn from Leo’s videos. He certainly has a knack for teaching clearly and concisely .. check out his Prism playlist here and dig in!
@A_Mortal_Mage thanks for the latest PRISM update! Great to have the ability to mute the pads now, and to have step recording.
I just played around with it. Fully enjoying it. One thing came up for me:
Thank you for posting this, very helpful.
@A_Mortal_Mage Really enjoying diving into Prism. Great with the Launchpad, don’t know how you’ve done it, but it’s making all my apps sound better![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@catherder that's awesome to hear! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It was a lil tricky to get it working while running but I'm glad to hear it was worth it. I'm going to patch up this bug and get a fix out in the next day or two! Let me know if you run into anything else while playing.
Thank you @steve99! It's been a blast seeing what people are making and improving Prism with all the feedback. Let me know if I can make it better or if you just want to share what you've made. The music has been amazing! Y'all are very talented peeps
Thanks a lot for the quick fix. This great feature works fine now. The only remaining problem is that the keyboard / pad mute does not seem to work in step mode. I am always getting a note regardless if the mute is on or off.
Sorry for being so picky, the reason why I love to see this working is to use Prism for some kind o generative sequencing:
