ABF Nanny State?

Because it’s a poorly-written diatribe full of drama and weasel words?
I was responding in general to the thread. I don’t know the op, so I don’t know what happened.
I didn't say it was the same. I said neither takes much effort.
Don't think that is happening here.
People just don't agree with his "nanny state" description.
Well, it certainly got everyone talking! And I think you have a good guess about what its all about too
Uh huh.
Ok fine
You could have read the beginning of the thread and seen that there were some thoughtful replies and acknowledge that rather than write as if no one had replied to the concerns. Your posts in this thread give the impression no one replied to OPs concerns (which, imo, were raised in a way that doesn’t seem as if they actually want to understand any point of few besides their own).
Still not sure in what way “rooting for the underdog “ applies.
Technically nothing could have happened. The OP joined the forum minutes before that post and hasn't posted since.
True. I just noticed the 30 other posts backslapping each other and thought it was super lame
Yeah. Disregard. Doesnt matter
I AM THE OP!
The AudioBus Forum is the de facto forum for iOS music production. Go to any other app specific forum (the Auria forum, Steinberg, etc) and there's maybe one post a week if that. Reddit subs and general music forums like GearSpace have dedicated iOS sub forums but they too are spotty at best, with activity days, sometimes weeks apart.
ABF has a wealth of knowledge that is all free. Michael doesn't have the forum plastered with advertising; there are a few for the apps he has developed. I don't think civility is too much to ask from the membership...
Are you actually admitting to creating the sock-puppet account?
and Danny Trejo as Good Badass Dude
That’s very wise.
Seriously.
I didn’t see any backslapping? Unless you’re talking about members commenting and adding to the same ongoing joke. Which happens quite often everywhere you go and has nothing to do with slapping each other on the back which invokes thoughts of phrases like “yeah go you!” “You got this!” “Good job!” Joking is just….joking lol.
You did say posts though. Are you talking about actual posts other than this one?
I think they’re being sarcastic but whether they’re being sarcastic just to poke and prod or being sarcastic to divert attention away from the fact they actually created the account is anyone’s guess lol.
Though they usually don’t have any issues being openly kinda rude so I don’t think it’s them 😂
Hans Zimmer is gonna be all over this.
Hey, I’m going to join the “there’s a conspiracy!” camp if Buck Sanders and Marco Beltrami don’t get that scoring gig!
On days like this, I’m reminded of John Scalzi’s saying: “The failure mode of clever is asshole.” It’s something I try to remind myself, and have from time to time looked back on an interaction and thought well, I was in the failure mode there. Maybe OP, whoever they are, was trying to offer a spicy take to foster a conversation, and fell into the failure mode. Just as well that they used a sock puppet account; maybe back on main they can have real conversations in a way that reflects learning something here. Or maybe they’ll decide this isn’t a forum where they’d like to spend their time. Either way I don’t really care about their identity.
For my part, I’m of the belief that the people who own and operate online forums have every right to manage, moderate, or even censor their site in whatever way they see fit, within the bounds of the law. At the same time, people have a right to participate, or not, based on their comfort level in how the community is run. And I think this forum is well-run. Moderation, from what I can tell, is never based on ideas or opinions, but rather on decorum and observation of published rules.
I’m just glad to see some love to other music composers haha. John Williams and Zimmer are usually the go to’s but there are so many.
I couldn’t agree more! (Uh oh, is this backslapping then!?)
Seriously: As a relatively new user and mostly lurker, I rarely participate in forum politics, but I feel the need to say, that besides being friendly and informative, this is also one of the most civil and pleasant forums I’ve yet encountered. And this excatly why modding is great - to keep things civil.
I don’t think you got the term ‘Nanny state’ right.
To be honest, I think I find this forum to be better than it used to be, but maybe that’s because I do not get involved as much as I used to, and have had a rest from being here.
Back when I had my older profile here, it was almost impossible to post often without someone having a go because they thought your words meant something they found offensive. Others often then dog piled. There was definitely cliques that almost preached their own form of religious dogma and you either were with them or not. Much of this manifested itself in political threads with the cliques claiming dominion over what should be considered righteous. Many I knew left and eventually I did too.
Now, political discourse and dog piling is shut down pretty quickly and I for one find this preferable. I do not think a music forum is a suitable place for expressing your views on things that are not directly related to music making. The only thing I think should be allowed is lyrics in music that express opinions some may find offensive. When lyrics start being banned here, that’s when I think the powers that be are going too far. The only exception I would suggest is that a song deliberately designed to pick on individuals by name should be frowned upon. I would suggest to anyone attacking even famous people by name are just poor at writing lyrics anyway. To attack a subject (non person) be it religion, social norm, law, sex, sexuality, race etc should not be protected in my opinion, many will disagree, but my mind is made up on this score - when laws restrict what we can say on a subject, then music may be the only option left for expression. Music gives us the great option to put our feeling into words that can have many meanings and musically open.
Yes, I like the idea for freedom of speech, but those with more power mostly control the narrative and consequences of free speech, so I don’t think free speech really exists equally in any society, even those that try to pretend it does. In the end we should always remember that whatever thought or opinion we have, many will disagree - some because they genuinely thought about a subject and just disagree at this time. Many though, just want conflict or to promote a pile on to. For these reasons, I do not believe we will ever be able to have decent conversation here without some subjects being banned - that is the cost of how we as people behave.
The irony of course being - ‘mods that hide in the shadows’ 🤨
My thoughts exactly...
Yesterday I skipped reading this thread because of the title, but you people with replays made my morning coffee so much more enjoyable. 😂
Forget about a nanny just a dummy is needed for the cry babies.

“The failure mode of clever is asshole.”
The gem in a pile of slag.
Maybe Danny Trejo could play Jakob Haq?
Alexander Skarsgård !
