I’ve been banned from every meetup group and social site, none of which were remotely political, that began with a lengthy and rather self-righteous passage declaring their non tolerance of any prejudice against women minority groups etc , upon politely enquiring if their policy extended also to abuse and bigotry against white straight men, as it was unclear (omitted) from their phrasing.

    😂😂

Insta-ban for my outrageous hate and word violence. Also distress, harm and something something generational trauma.

At this point, it makes me feel all warm and gooey inside. I can only hope they were able to recover from their tremendous shock and thought-wounds over however many lattes a young-professional’s wage extends to, while I luxuriate in the painkilling medication and hospital appointments that are the largesse of my multitudinous assigned privileges.

😂 I love it. Gotta make sure to include the movie trailer narrator voice through the whole movie too

“In a world where users of a niche online music forum called ABF must question what has become of their beloved community, when less than 5 threads have been deleted, the the real question looms large over one user who dares to go where no man has gone before, to just asking the real questions…

“Coming Soon to a theater near you.”

Hans Zimmer is gonna be all over this.

Hey, I’m going to join the “there’s a conspiracy!” camp if Buck Sanders and Marco Beltrami don’t get that scoring gig!

I’m just glad to see some love to other music composers haha. John Williams and Zimmer are usually the go to’s but there are so many.

Love the name drops @HotStrange - @JeffChasteen, Those men are legends. Full stop.

I defaulted to picturing Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as that's my most listened to composers as of late.

"The Social Network" OST is bonkers and even the latest "The Killer" OST are the kinda noise my ears like, apparently. Just so synth heavy and noisy. Feels like that fits the bill a bit more with this forum.

Also, Jonny Greenwood is a mad man. I listened to the There Will be Blood OST more than I should admit.

I'd be remiss to leave this comment without mentioning Nicholas Britell, his score/motif's throughout the 4 seasons of Succession are mind-blowing. Season 4 OST is a constant in my life since it dropped.

  • Hello again, my name is Zhāng Wěi I am a ‘long time lurker’ I believe you call it. Sorry you don’t like new people asking questions that are challenging. I think my handle is acceptable an as arbitrary as 99.9% of all audio bus forum handles. I didn’t read all the responses, many seem like ganging up. It’s good to know who the Lieutenants are. The ones who always ‘pile on’ as previously said. I don’t know why you would be so scared of a simple question? Truth can be a hard pill to swallow. Especially when minds are closed to alternative opinions.

    • Bruh what

You made a sockpuppet account, asked a vauge question with a variety of pointed taunts towards mods and implying that this forum is a police state(a music forum for iOS production), then didn't engage with any of the responses until just now.

We were having a bit of fun but maybe don't ask such vauge questions behind a fake account and then proceed to not respond. If you want an actual discussion stay logged in or expect to lose the reigns of the thread.

No one ganged up on you, no one piled on, and calling forum members Lieutenants is something. This isn't the some police state. You seem to be confused of the purpose of this forum and have inter-personal communication issues demanding respect while giving none.

Often times people want to make life much harder than it actually is, this forum is a resource for music development and if you were a part of the conversations on threads that were deemed inappropriate for the forum, theres plenty of other places on the internet to spout unrelated conversations.

Seriously: As a relatively new user and mostly lurker, I rarely participate in forum politics, but I feel the need to say, that besides being friendly and informative, this is also one of the most civil and pleasant forums I’ve yet encountered. And this excatly why modding is great - to keep things civil.

It wasn't always so! I've been hanging around for a few years, and there was a period when trolls and spammers were starting to become a regular feature in the forums. The moderators stepped up and made this a much more pleasant place to argue with people :D

Seriously though, I barely register the presence of moderation here, and the forums are much more welcoming than they were a couple years ago. Thanks to the mods and Michael for making it so! As has been pointed out in this thread, this has become the de-facto place to discuss iOS music production on the Internet. It's probably just about the only historical record of the development of this movement (along with the videos @jakoB_haQ, @thesoundtestroom, @Gavinski and others have made). As such it's a bit of a precious resource, and I'm glad it's being maintained with intention.

  • This has all happened before.
    It will all happen again.

Just re-read your initial post. You did not ask a question that was "challenging". You asked a leading question that was framed such as to make it entirely rhetorical. "Do you agree with me and my righteous truth, or do you disagree, as an agent of oppression?" was the general tone. That's not a challenging question. That's a barely-concealed insult to the members and moderators of the forum.

I didn’t read all the responses, many seem like ganging up.

You don't like people asking questions that are challenging?

Anyway, to sum up, you don't seem to like the moderation policies here. I'd suggest that another forum may be more to your liking.

    🤪 Dying laughing.

Some people just enjoy the feeling of starting off a row and then hiding back in the shadows.

Though this forum is full of people who are well intentioned and did try to engage positively.

People who can't be bothered to show the same respect of time and energy will, often times, be the butt of the joke. Such is life. They should take it on the chin, and move on.

Definitely! At least this is a system that self regulates itself quite well!

  • In the case of the two threads that were closed (without anyone being banned), the issue doesn't seem to have been the views expressed...but some people insisting on continuing to be hostile long after numerous people attempted to clue people in that they were out of line.

In my neighborhood bar, someone doing that would be told that it is time to move on and to not come back until they could be less hostile.

TWBB is a classic too. And to think, Greenwood got denied an Oscar nom because he used one small part from another composer which apparently cuts you off from “best original score” nominations.

People who are doing well don’t usually talk like this and refer to something as small as a niche Internet forum as a police state. Reach out to someone if you need help.

  • I do not need to be taken seriously by anyone here, this is not my whole life. I like my freedom, not to be dictated to, do this or do that.

I thought I did ask 3 questions in my original post but English is not my first language so I use AI to translate. Maybe it translated wrong but I intended:

    Q. Has the Audiobus Forum become a Nanny State?
    Q. Has it gone too far?
    Q. Are you happy being manipulated or should we be treated like adults?

These are I think the same questions I asked again. I don’t want to be bullied, insulted, abused, attacked and ganged up on for asking questions. But these are your freedoms, to be who you really are and these things reflect only upon you. This was my point beneath my questions.

Peace, kindness and happiness to you all.

I still, this many years later, hate that fact that he was denied that. At least he was honest about it so I give it to him there. I also don't think the overall best pic winner "No Country for Old Men" is anywhere near as cultrally relevent as TWBB. I. Drink. Your. Milkshake! I drink it up!" - I see that line as a meme or clip reguarly, still!

Have you listened to The Smile's - "Wall of Eyes" at all yet? Just came out Friday! It's a pretty good LP. Greenwood and Yorke are fantastic, I'm pretty stoked on this project.

OK, now that you're engaging and being a little more specific, here are some specific responses.

I thought I did ask 3 questions in my original post but English is not my first language so I use AI to translate. Maybe it translated wrong but I intended:

    Q. Has the Audiobus Forum become a Nanny State?

No. I think I demonstrated that with facts and numbers. If you would like to dispute those points, I'm open to honest discussion.

    Q. Has it gone too far?

No. Your reaction seems to have been triggered by two threads that were closed on the same day, both on the same subject and for the same valid reason - they had degenerated into useless off topic arguments, as threads sometimes tend to do. Prior to that only 3 threads have been closed out of more than 300 over the last few months. Some where forum guidelines were clearly violated. That can hardly be called excessive IMO.

    Q. Are you happy being manipulated or should we be treated like adults?

That is an ingenuous question with possible answers that only support your premise. So I won't answer it as asked. I will answer it this way:

    • No I am not being manipulated by the forum mods.
    • You tried to manipulate us into responding the way you wanted, but it didn't work.
    • Yes I am being treated like an adult. That includes being expected to act like one. You could argue that some of my mocking responses weren't very "adult". Fair enough. However adults are allowed to joke around ... except in Nanny States.
    • The moderators do a great volunteer job with no thanks or compensation. They don't deserve to be cast in a bad light.
    • Our gracious host provides this wonderful resource at his own expense without ads, subscriptions, or anything else. If he prefers to keep this a place with a primarily positive tone then that should be respected. If moderators need to step in with good intentions of keeping it that way, that should be respected too.

There you go. Honest answers. Sorry if they're not what you wanted to see.
