    Q. Has the Audiobus Forum become a Nanny State?

    No! It has not.

    Q. Has it gone too far?

How could it when no was the response to question one!

    Q. Are you happy being manipulated or should we be treated like adults?

That question has no bearing either as no one is (being manipulated).

Can I ask you a question? Are you a Chinese living in China (based on your name), just curious.

    No.

    Q. Has it gone too far?

    No.

I have yet to see a moderator step in to close this thread, nor have I seen a moderator advise you to "knock it off", thereby letting you fall flat on your face based on your own actions.

In other words, despite making a terrible first impression, the moderators ARE treating you as an adult. I honestly don't see the issue here.

I do not need to be taken seriously by anyone here, this is not my whole life. I like my freedom, not to be dictated to, do this or do that.

I thought I did ask 3 questions in my original post but English is not my first language so I use AI to translate. Maybe it translated wrong but I intended:

These are I think the same questions I asked again. I don’t want to be bullied, insulted, abused, attacked and ganged up on for asking questions. But these are your freedoms, to be who you really are and these things reflect only upon you. This was my point beneath my questions.

Peace, kindness and happiness to you all.

    Oh my

    Q. Has the Audiobus Forum become a Nanny State?

    A. No, Audiobus Forum hasn't become a Nanny State, despite your implication it has. If you believe it has, you're more than welcome to persue your conversational needs elsewhere where the free flowing, "just asking questions" type of discourse is thriving.

This is, as it always has been, a music first forum and your freedom to live your life however you choose and speak about whatever you want is widely accepted elsewhere.

Again, this is a music first forum.

    Q. Has it gone too far?

    A. Has what gone too far? By "it" i'll have to assume you mean the implication your leading question asked about a non-issue that most disagree with?

    Q. Are you happy being manipulated or should we be treated like adults?

    A. In what world, do you believe that asking any questions like these will garner a produtive conversation while the whole time leading us to immediately conclude an agreement with your leading questions?

This forum does treat us like adultss, and no one is being manipulated, other than ourselves and FOMOing on maybe a couple too many apps.

Other than that, your questions aren't being asked in a positive way and are quite rude to the mods and community members, as well as yourself. Your communication skills, AI based or not translations, aren't a productive way to ask questions is any culture.

These are I think the same questions I asked again. I don’t want to be bullied, insulted, abused, attacked and ganged up on for asking questions. But these are your freedoms, to be who you really are and these things reflect only upon you. This was my point beneath my questions.

Your questions, as they were originally stated and currently reasked, are rude and lead to make baseless claims against the mods and users of this forum with little to basically no respect. You made a fake sockpuppet account and then didn't answer anyone for over 12 hours.

Was there a little fun being had at your expense? Sure. But being the butt of a joke when asking rude questions in an argumentative way will always lead to you being the butt of the joke if you aren't on the thread where you asked the questions for several hours.

Noone, "bullied, insulted, abused, attacked, or ganged up" on you for asking messed up questions.

New sequel idea for "Nanny State" - "Nanny State 2; The Next Day; Gaslight Edition."

Peace, kindness and happiness to you as well!!

😂 I love it. Gotta make sure to include the movie trailer narrator voice through the whole movie too

“In a world where users of a niche online music forum called ABF must question what has become of their beloved community, when less than 5 threads have been deleted, the the real question looms large over one user who dares to go where no man has gone before, to just asking the real questions…

WHAT IF ABF has become a Nanny State?”

“Coming Soon to a theater near you.”

Hans Zimmer is gonna be all over this.

Hey, I’m going to join the “there’s a conspiracy!” camp if Buck Sanders and Marco Beltrami don’t get that scoring gig!

I’m just glad to see some love to other music composers haha. John Williams and Zimmer are usually the go to’s but there are so many.

Love the name drops @HotStrange - @JeffChasteen, Those men are legends. Full stop.

I defaulted to picturing Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as that's my most listened to composers as of late.

"The Social Network" OST is bonkers and even the latest "The Killer" OST are the kinda noise my ears like, apparently. Just so synth heavy and noisy. Feels like that fits the bill a bit more with this forum.

Also, Jonny Greenwood is a mad man. I listened to the There Will be Blood OST more than I should admit.

I'd be remiss to leave this comment without mentioning Nicholas Britell, his score/motif's throughout the 4 seasons of Succession are mind-blowing. Season 4 OST is a constant in my life since it dropped.

No we’re talking! I haven’t seen the Killer yet - it’s on my list - so I’ve avoided listening to the score also but Trent and Atticus are a dynamic duo for sure. I’m a huge NiN fan as well so maybe I’m biased but like you said, they make some amazing noise.

TWBB is a classic too. And to think, Greenwood got denied an Oscar nom because he used one small part from another composer which apparently cuts you off from “best original score” nominations.

I still, this many years later, hate that fact that he was denied that. At least he was honest about it so I give it to him there. I also don't think the overall best pic winner "No Country for Old Men" is anywhere near as cultrally relevent as TWBB. I. Drink. Your. Milkshake! I drink it up!" - I see that line as a meme or clip reguarly, still!

Have you listened to The Smile's - "Wall of Eyes" at all yet? Just came out Friday! It's a pretty good LP. Greenwood and Yorke are fantastic, I'm pretty stoked on this project.

Yeah I was super pissed about that. And the same year Zodiac got NO big nominations and it was my personal favorite of that year and I believe up with the very best.

I agree with you though. I adore the Coen Bros and Cormac McCarthy and love NCFOM, but TWBB is on another level and is the kind of film that only comes around once every so often. A real, true, all time great classic.

Oh! And the Smile! I haven’t heard it yet but I saw where it came out. I’m excited to give it a listen.

2007 was such a good year. I remember watching all of those movies in a theatre (I worked in one when I got out to the city on my own for the first time) and throughly enjoyed all of them. Zodiac is incredible!

Don't go into The Killer with too many expectations. It's a fun romp but it isn't Fincher's "Gone Girl", "Social Network", or even "Fight Club." - It's a fun romp and that's all it is.

Honestly I don’t think your questions deserve answers. They’re all quite obviously leading questions and you’re quite obviously doing the thing you’re accusing the mods of doing in question #3.

This all seems designed to get people to co-sign on the bonkers notion that a niche music forum is somehow a police state with mods hiding in the ether acting as some kind of shadow force. And now you seem upset that no one agreed so you’re doubling down.

I haven’t seen anyone bully you or insult you or gang up on and/or abuse you. People starting making jokes because the entire premise is absurd. If you want to be treated like an adult then act like one. If you want respect and answers to your questions then ask them respectfully. Simple as that.

The way you’re going about this makes it seem like you’re not well and I genuinely hope you’re doing okay.

Great response. You’re probably right to lead with hoping they’re well, but it’s hard to know they’re true intentions or well-being. Online discourse is a slippery slope.

Either way, great response. Much more kindness than necessary all things considered, but it’s admirable none the less. Cheers

@NannyState : you state as a fact that we are being manipulated by mods. I see no evidence of this. What gives you reason to believe the mods are being manipulative?

Imo, if you make an accusation like that, you should be able to support it with facts.

Fwiw, I am pretty sure that the mods only step in and close or sink a thread when there have been a number of complaints and only if they think the content complaints are reasonable.

  • ^ Post of the day award right there. 😂

True this could all very well be ill-intentioned. I hope not but like you said, you can never tell.

The only reason I ask is mentioning things like police states, mods in the shadows, being manipulated by them, especially in the case of something as insignificant as an Internet forum, can often be signs of something else going on or of something else building up. But I don’t want to diagnose someone online or accuse anyone of anything. Just felt maybe it’s worth asking on the chance something is genuinely wrong. Who knows maybe I’m blowing it out of proportion now 😂

    A pleasure....

  • More of the same from the few. I hear your message. But if communication is being choked by threads being closed of course you are being manipulated. If people are hounded, stopped or banned for holding a truthful but negative opinion about an app or developer or something else of course you are being manipulated. Even if you can’t see it, that is manipulation. I don’t believe the rulers are being intentionally nefarious. Those who defend the state so aggressively and never stop to question are happy and enjoy to be controlled. You may be blind, deaf and childlike but blissfully unaware and obedient. It’s OK you choose to be this way but don’t pretend otherwise. This has become uglier on the inside than it was from the outside. I wish you more love, more intelligence and less hateful.

  • I can’t wait to see the implosion when this thread is closed.

But you're wrong there. Threads don't get shut down just because someone holds a negative view of an app. They get shut down if the tone gets excessively rude, or if there are personal attacks violating personal guidelines are violated, or if the discussion just descends into pointless circular arguing.

No thread has ever been closed simply for someone having stated a negative opinion of an app or developer in a respectful way. Like an adult.

The complaint in the two threads that got closed recently was valid. Some people, including me, acknowledged as much. Some disagreed and felt the developer deserved a chance. Some characterized their disagreement as "attacks". Disagreeing isn't "hounding"! It's simply open discussion.

People get provoked by agressive and provoking tone. So what? If you're rude to developers we appreciate, expect rebuttals. If it gets out of hand, expect a thread closure. If you want to be treated as an adult, act like one.

The points had been made. The tone was becoming toxic. Toxic isn't welcome and doesn't need to be left unchecked. Two threads were closed. No one was banned. No big deal.

That's a far, far cry from manipulation.

  • This is now moving into trolling.

Nanny State 4; Sound of Freedom?

Listen, I remember the first time I read Animal Farm, and then 1984 as well.

I didn't decide to make those novels my whole personality and call others childlike, blind, and deaf and obediant. Awful takes.
