Yes it is much easier to use than what I thought after watching the video. It can even send CC messages should you want to give more movements to your instrument. Only pain point so far is that I am facing some display slowdowns as soon as I have more than one instance running. Some CPU glitches too
I really like this one...getting some interesting results...
got one.
the only thing i don't like is that it's not compatible with iPhone, at least right now.
+1 yep... still digging this one, but agree it'd be cool on iPhone and macOS too!
Purchased and love it.
Great work on this @a_m!
Always wanted a proper Metropolis inspired sequencer AU on iOS. Metasequencer takes it to the next level.
@skiphunt @a_m
Purchased it for iPad is the Mac OS a separate purchase? As it sayes £4.99 still on the App Store ?
iPad only at the moment...? Unless you can run it on an M1 Mac??
Still no word whether this will ever come to iPhone. 😐
I'll probably get it anyway at some point, but it would be nice to hear something. I try (but usually fail) to limit the iPad only apps I purchase.
Hey everyone… just want to hop in and say thank you for all the kind words… it really means a lot to me to see those comments!
Also, if you are enjoying using the app, I’d be truly grateful if you’d consider writing a review on the App Store. I woke up today and discovered that I’d received my first review on the App Store and it’s a one star review and it’s kind of mean. If someone is running into a problem with the app, I’d appreciate the chance to try to resolve it. But maybe that’s just life on the App Store!
@Jumpercollins my MacBook Pro is an older Intel model, so I don’t have first-hand experience running iPad apps on macOS. my general understanding is that if you bought the iPad app, you should be able to use it on your mac without paying again. If there is some setting in Xcode that I missed to enable this, I’d be happy to turn it on.
@wim sorry, no current plans to make Neon iPhone compatible
Good to know. Can't say I blame you!
Thanks for the response. 👍🏼
Hey @a_m, I wrote a very long 5 star review and refuted the 1 star silliness. I have to salute you for this truly modular step sequencer... Even if there were no song mode it would be incredible. To be able to make incredibly long sequences takes this to a place where no other ios sequencer can touch. Only Quantum allows such a modular step approach, but you have auv3, song mode, and real freedom with your step masking, pulse/note/sync for step advance modes per modifier lane, division or multiplication for pulse/note rate per modifier lane, omg.
I've been looking for a tool like this for forever. Hats off. You obviously have a really intuitive understanding of modularity, a clear creative vision, and the coding skills to support your ambition. You should feel really proud. And I'll buy a 16 step version of this in a heartbeat, though with your song mode it's more just a luxury.
If you have more midi tools that you have cooking, I'm absolutely first in line.
Don't let the haters get to you... He's either a jerk or doesn't know how to use an auv3 midi sequencer.
Your video really sold me on the power of this tool. And you knew exactly how to take a 3 note sequence and make it something with texture, creativity, and emotion. Make more videos! A lot of us (lol me) can dabble all day but not make anything nearly as musical as that 3 note sequence. If you could make videos showing this sequencer do Tangerine Dream, Acid, Ambient, etc., you'll get so much more interest.
Anyway, I'm done gushing. Keep up the good work, man!
+1 I agree 100% with all of what he said. I’ll leave a great review also. Keep on keepin on!
It's very interesting. Getting some results different than other sequencers. Too bad no iPhone option! Only complaint is the menu system. Like the interface otherwise.
It’s fine you often get that it just says you’ve already purchased it.
I left a review as well, love the app and looking forward to whatever you put out there.
no, it's an old AppStore bug.
just purchase it on MacOS, after completing all steps you'll get a message «you've already purchase this item», and it will install on MacOS as expected.
Ok will try that thanks for the insight.
I’m sorry to hear about the bad review. Neon is lots of fun, and I enjoy how quickly one can get great sequences going. Specially when you are into Berlin School like myself. Left you a good review.
Just took the chance and tried. It didn't charge me for Neon again. Said I'd already purchased it.
Installed on mac mini 16GB M1 and the latest version of Logic Pro. macOS Sonoma 14.4.1
Tested Neon in standalone mode and works great! I directed the external midi setting in Neon to Logic Pro macOS and it worked perfectly. I didn't even have to set anything in Logic to accept the midi source. It just worked. No fuss.
Successfully validated in Logic Pro macOS.
I then loaded Neon in a midi FX slot in Logic Pro and it also worked perfectly.
Sweet!!!
Cool, on confirmation for Logic. We finally have lots of great midi fx on MacOs now including this one.
Hey, just wanted to say that I’ve also given you a five star review, how anyone can post a one star review is beyond me! I’ve also subscribed to your channel and look forward to future videos and updates 😀👍
Day 2 of sequencing. there is a lot more to this than I thought. I guess Ilike how you can add a lot more pauses or rests and then fast lines etc.. Overall it's inspiring as hell. One thing tho.
Hard to explain here:
ok, the scale Changing without an "ok' or 'select' Botton is a bit awkward live, imagine your arping sick line and want to change scales, its gonna sound a bit glunky know, unless I pre automate.. anyway, just some minot ui updates andI love it so far.
QUICK BUG REPORT... anyone else seeing the following?
@a_m hey, just a quick bug I've noticed. On the three ipads I have Neon on, sometimes the sequencer when opened as AUv3 in AUM the app will be running at like 8x speed for anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute or so before calming down to the actual tempo of the project. Have not seen this in standalone. I've actually noticed the exact Uber fast rate issue on Euclid Goes to Party, @cem_olcay's euclidean synth.
Restarting aum sometimes gets rid of this, as does resetting the ipad. Have noticed it on an m1 ipad pro, an m1 ipad air, and an older 2019 ipad, all running ios 17, all using AUM.
Thanks to everyone who wrote those incredibly nice reviews!
Also, update for anyone who was having problems attempting to automate parameters in AUM, I’ve got it working now and will submit a new build to the app store after I do a little more testing.
@NoncompliantBryant yea… i’ve heard a couple reports that might be related… i believe it has to do with how i’m handling the transport position and i already have some ideas of how to improve it. if you wouldn’t mind starting a bug report on https://neon.canny.io and maybe posting a video and/or steps to reproduce, it would be super helpful!
But don’t we already have an app called Neon.. 4Pocket’s Neon Audio App?
Is can cause some issues in the long run with same names..
Hi @a_m and other users … this looks really unique! Is there any way to influence the note/step pitches via MIDI input or is this just done by settling the step sliders?
Hi there... not as of yet, but definitely an arpeggiator-style modifier is something I've thought about!
For now, the sliders are exposed as parameters so you can automate them through your auv3 host...
I made a Loopy Pro template where I mapped the sliders, gate mode and pulse count params to the faders and knobs on a Novation Launch Control XL. I did this across 3 pages, each controlling an instance of Neon and created follow actions that open the corresponding Neon window (and close the others) when you switch pages and I use a couple buttons on the Launch Control to switch pages so I can quickly jump around between 3 MIDI-mapped instances. Might make a video and share the template...
@a_m hi, I need to watch your first video again (it’s what sold me) but, it would be cool 😎 if you made another one where you explain what you’re doing and why… like you did in the first one. Very helpful.
Here is my video for NEON
