Hey there, I woke up this morning with something in my head and tried to play it first on my IPhone for the generic idea then finalized it on Ableton. One of these day where “the flow” catch you the whole time. Hope you like it

Melodic, good flow to the song. What is the voice software Richard mentions?

Thanks for listening. I am using Synthesizer V as a voice generator

@yellow_eyez thank you for listening. I would gladly have sing on your track but as mention above, I am using a synthetic voice…so you can do it too ;o)

This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the flute, as well as to Lunaris 2, Omnisphere, and Repro-5 for the background instruments.

After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.

    It's titled The River.

David, you are master of your chosen craft - I sometimes wonder if there is a commercial market for your work? I know zilch about marketing but I’d have thought there would be. Another excellent example.

    +1 to this.

Oh I thought it was like auto tune. That’s cool. ( don’t have it )

Lovely, I like the mix - especially the drums and the synths - not 100% sure about the vocals. They are pretty convincing but to my taste a bit harsh in the high notes. Listened to the whole song twice so I definitely liked it though

  • Second track from my Label.. Enjoy guys.. This is the Radio Edit.. ;-)

I posted this in a separate topic, but I think it may qualify to be here too (I hope!). I had a previous version which was using a more vintage computer speech. The vocals on this new version sound much more realistic to my ears.

Edit: link to newer version as I put the other link to private.

As it happens, it's actually a mix of two different AI vocals processed in Apesoft's Sparkle. It took some fiddling but I got it to a point where I was satisfied.

Personally I preferred the previous version with the more robotic sounding vocal. For me this one wanders too far into the uncanny valley, not sounding human or robotic but a strange hybrid of the two.

The older voice had a certain charm to it that this one lacks, IMO of course.

Fair enough! :) It reminds me of feedback I have heard before regarding synthesized guitar sounds when compared to the real thing-- and funnily enough, why they prefer to go for synth sounds directly. I totally get that.

Thanks for listening and for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Not a lot to say except this is very lovely. It has a peacful and contemplative feel to it. A little sad perhaps, but I guess it's one of those tracks where your feelings are reflected back to you-- just like water. :)

    Hi all

Hope everyone is well. I'm really looking forward to listening to everyone's creations this month.

After an absence of a good few months I am glad to say I am writing songs again, and largely this is down to starting to learn the piano about 6 months go, which in turn has inspired me into new directions.

So this month's offering is a piano centric song - I am glad to say I can play this pretty much as you hear it on the track - the upside of this is that it is honest with very little midi editing, but the downside is that I am still at a very early stage with the piano, so I know it could be a lot better.

Lyrically, I am revisiting a theme I've delved into in the past, focusing on the difficulties some of us can face with relationships with adult children. The reference to the "man in the spotlight" and that night 34 years ago in NYC are two Mike and the Mechanics concerts - 34 years apart - Living Years explored the same theme as my song.

Thank you for listening - sorry it's 6 minutes long!

I didn't mind the length! Nice song with something interesting to say. Arrangement wise and lyrically, it reminds me of the 60s conscious songs but from an older and experienced POV.

The subject also made me think of how, imo, my peers have become like our elders in many interesting ways.

Here’s my entry for the month:

This is a Burnt Earth tune, made with my old band mate. We’re down to 2 now and we’ve had a pretty dramatic change in direction but I think it still sounds like ‘us’.

The inspiration was to make something that would evoke a Scandinavian landscape/movie.

Very cinematic sounding piece. Suspenseful. Everything sounds so well balanced. Great track.

I have listened to both versions. All the instrumentation is beautifully put together and produced. It’s right up my street with a retro 80s tinge to it. Really nice. I’ll be honest, IMHO it is crying out for a real vocalist! The vocals follow a lovely melody. I don’t really have a preference between the two versions.

Cool track. I like the 80s inspired backing music and there are some nice melodies. To be truthful, I’m not a huge fan of the AI vocals. I think these kinds of synthetic vocals (such as vocoder which I think would suit the song well) work better when there are fewer lyrics and much less vocals overall in the arrangement. I’ve always kept the words to a minimum in my songs when I use vocoders for that reason as they can get annoying quickly.

But it’s a good song nonetheless — whether or not you like the sound of the vocals is a taste thing. I’ve always liked vocoded vocals, but I have never liked the heavily auto-tuned vocal sound that these AI vocals remind me of.

My (long) entry for this month. Given the content of the lyrics, it was meant to make the listener feel uncomfortable. Hopefully that's what you'll get😉. The experience is even more unsettling if you understand the lyrics.

Here's a link to the original thread with more details about the track:

Le Passeur de Sangatte by ORIPEAUX

    Lyrics in the spoiler:

    PART I : LA DUNE

    Fournir l'accastillage.
J'embarque les espérances dans mes radeaux,
    Parasitant l'Eldorado.

    Mon troupeau a disparu.

    Oh insatiable Europe.
    Allez vas-y, nourris moi !
    Nourris moi encore.
    Allez! Encore un peu.
    Oh insatiable Europe !

Here's an attempt of translation in English:

    PART I: THE DUNE

I took my place on top of the dune,
    Every evening, I return.
    Another beautiful moonless night unfolds,
In the mist and sea spray.
I am nobody, yet I am someone,
    Anonymity, I cherish.

Every evening, I come to the top of this dune,
    Not to enjoy the panorama,
    Nor the beach grass.
I come to contemplate my endeavor,
    Hair in the breeze.

    Below on Sangatte beach,
    The regatta will soon begin.
I see all my puppets advancing.
    Some are in prayer.
Today, they are close to a hundred,
    And the sea is uncertain...

I took my place on top of the dune.
    Every evening, I return.
I confess that the human being fascinates me,
In the mist and sea spray.
Regardless of the weight of their baggage,
Whether they've escaped carnage, Drought, hunger,
    They hope for tomorrow.
    I only recruit crews,
    Supply the rigging.
I embark hopes in my rafts,
    Parasitizing their El Dorado.

PART II: CHARON AND THE CHANNEL-ACHERON

I am the ferryman of souls,
    Demanded by destiny.
I am the King of the Alders
    Seated firmly on his throne,
    The child-stealer,
    The terror of parents.
The Channel rests in my hand,
    I've made it the Acheron.
    They call me Charon.
    I provide for the demons.
    I transport the souls,
    Demanded by destiny.
I have no qualms, It's not my kind of thing.
    They call me, I answer,
    And I empty their pockets.
    I meet the demand,
    I take the orders,
    I sign the slip sheets,
    Unload the boats
    Without insurance policy,
    Just a little fuel,
And if they lose their lives,
It's the least of my worries.
I am the ferryman of souls,
    Demanded by destiny.

    PART III: THE STORM

Night has fallen on top of the dune,
    My herd has vanished.
Every evening, I see them drift away,
    Devoured by the waves.
    On the horizon,
I see the procession of cargo ships,
    Their illuminated lights.
They must avoid these great walls,
    And their iron jaws.
I know some won't make of this journey, What they expected.

    Tomorrow morning,
I won't go to the dune,
The Sea spews its drowned there.
Others will have reached Dover or London,
    Bo-Jo awaits them.
Whether they rot in Brighton's sewers,
Or in a plane to Rwanda.
Europe is an imperious and voracious octopus,
    It is always hungry...

    Oh insatiable Europe!
    You who are always hungry...
I am your little pilot fish.
I fatten myself on the remains of your feasts.

    Oh insatiable Europe!
    You who are always hungry...
I am your little pilot fish.
I fatten myself on the remains of your feasts.

    Oh insatiable Europe.
    Come on, feed me!
    Feed me again.
    Come on!
    A little more.
    Oh insatiable Europe!

  • @JanKun what an epic. What a journey. The raw emotion runs riot through the whole piece. The production and playing is also top notch. Thank you for the translation. The climax and shear chaos of the final section is brilliant. An extraordinary piece of music, I am in awe!

Wow, that's quite the Rhapsody! I wasn't expecting that. I feel like I'm missing out by not fully understanding the lyrics as they're clearly the centre of the whole piece.

I love the piano part then the crazy jazzy (!) orchestral crescendo. Really well orchestrated. How you got from an almost Arctic Monkeys beginning to that finalé is amazing!

    Great Stuff!

    Fournir l'accastillage.
J'embarque les espérances dans mes radeaux,
    Parasitant l'Eldorado.

    Mon troupeau a disparu.

    Oh insatiable Europe.
    Allez vas-y, nourris moi !
    Nourris moi encore.
    Allez! Encore un peu.
    Oh insatiable Europe !

Here's an attempt of translation in English:

    PART I: THE DUNE

I took my place on top of the dune,
    Every evening, I return.
    Another beautiful moonless night unfolds,
In the mist and sea spray.
I am nobody, yet I am someone,
    Anonymity, I cherish.

Every evening, I come to the top of this dune,
    Not to enjoy the panorama,
    Nor the beach grass.
I come to contemplate my endeavor,
    Hair in the breeze.

    Below on Sangatte beach,
    The regatta will soon begin.
I see all my puppets advancing.
    Some are in prayer.
Today, they are close to a hundred,
    And the sea is uncertain...

I took my place on top of the dune.
    Every evening, I return.
I confess that the human being fascinates me,
In the mist and sea spray.
Regardless of the weight of their baggage,
Whether they've escaped carnage, Drought, hunger,
    They hope for tomorrow.
    I only recruit crews,
    Supply the rigging.
I embark hopes in my rafts,
    Parasitizing their El Dorado.

PART II: CHARON AND THE CHANNEL-ACHERON

I am the ferryman of souls,
    Demanded by destiny.
I am the King of the Alders
    Seated firmly on his throne,
    The child-stealer,
    The terror of parents.
The Channel rests in my hand,
    I've made it the Acheron.
    They call me Charon.
    I provide for the demons.
    I transport the souls,
    Demanded by destiny.
I have no qualms, It's not my kind of thing.
    They call me, I answer,
    And I empty their pockets.
    I meet the demand,
    I take the orders,
    I sign the slip sheets,
    Unload the boats
    Without insurance policy,
    Just a little fuel,
And if they lose their lives,
It's the least of my worries.
I am the ferryman of souls,
    Demanded by destiny.

    PART III: THE STORM

Night has fallen on top of the dune,
    My herd has vanished.
Every evening, I see them drift away,
    Devoured by the waves.
    On the horizon,
I see the procession of cargo ships,
    Their illuminated lights.
They must avoid these great walls,
    And their iron jaws.
I know some won't make of this journey, What they expected.

    Tomorrow morning,
I won't go to the dune,
The Sea spews its drowned there.
Others will have reached Dover or London,
    Bo-Jo awaits them.
Whether they rot in Brighton's sewers,
Or in a plane to Rwanda.
Europe is an imperious and voracious octopus,
    It is always hungry...

    Oh insatiable Europe!
    You who are always hungry...
I am your little pilot fish.
I fatten myself on the remains of your feasts.

    Oh insatiable Europe!
    You who are always hungry...
I am your little pilot fish.
I fatten myself on the remains of your feasts.

    Oh insatiable Europe.
    Come on, feed me!
    Feed me again.
    Come on!
    A little more.
    Oh insatiable Europe!

As I have commented before, the ambition of this piece is breathtaking, a mini-opera in 3 movements. There is so much to take in, the production lives up to the ambition.

The vocal is truly excellent, and really conveys the story. The arrangement is incredible, with so many parts. Great guitars, orchestration, and drums. And the lyrics are great too. And the building crescendo at the end is a masterstroke!

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

Even though I know your kind
You got your claws inside my mind
All the schemes that you conceive
All the tricks hidden up your sleeve

So play your ace before you leave
You love the game and to deceive
    An inveterate liar
    You scheme and conspire

    You laid it on me
    You played me
    I fell for you

    So it’s all on you
Do what you want to do

The time has come for me to say
That you and I go separate ways
I know you think I’m so naive
But I’m not as blind as you believe

So play your ace before you leave
You love the game and to deceive
    An inveterate liar
    You scheme and conspire

    You laid it on me
    You played me
    I fell for you

    So it’s all on you
Do what you want to do

Great straightforward track, the contrast between lyrics and music is well thought. Love your guitar tones, you know your pedalboard very well!

I think you really aced the vocals on this. It has a Floydesque(Gilmore) feel to the harmony. Great lyrics too man, you know it’s a great job man.

For my submission I have to give you credit for it, otherwise it would not be ready for April 1! The first , and probably the only month, I’ll be able to meet you at the start line lol! So thank you

With that I submit to you a work you may have seen but I did this song WITH the great @Richardyot as heard above ;)

So he kinda is getting a double feature for April 2024 hehe nice work richardyot - thanks again

    ICE ORCHID (remix feat RICHARDYOT)

Great collaborative work. Half melancholic half dreamt atmosphere. I Like all the sound and textures choices. I was hoping at some point that the track would go somewhere a bit brighter before coming back to the initial musical idea, but it works perfectly fine in its current form. Great job guys!

    As I Get Older

    As I get older
    Some people they get colder
Who did we think we were kidding?
What made us think we’d be winning?
The man in the spotlight was talking to me
Telling me all that I was unwilling to see

    A new generation
    With no explanation
    Making the same old mistakes
Taken as fools, whatever it takes
Now I’m in the spotlight with tears on my face
    I’m leaving this theatre I won’t leave a trace

Is your heart at peace, is your conscience clear?
Would you prefer it, if I was still here?
When the guilt kicks in in the middle of the night
And you paid lip service for most your life
You never phoned or sent that text
And you know why, but in retrospect / you knew best

    The years are going faster
I’d hope that it’d last, but
Now I know that’s not true
I can’t live my life through you
Seen it all through, some sad sense of duty
Pretending it’s real to make out that suits me

We imagined that somehow we’d be special
Man I think we were expecting some kind of medal
Take me back to that night in New York City
34 years makes me come over all kinda giddy
Is your heart at peace, is your conscience clear?
Would you prefer it, if I was still here?

Is your heart at peace, is your conscience clear?
Would you prefer it, if I was still here?
When the guilt kicks in in the middle of the night
And you paid lip service for most your life
You could wait for a call from beyond the grave
Or the here and now while it’s not too late

Great and sincere songwriting. Your voice infections always remind me a bit of Roger Waters but your timbre is far more pleasant to hear than Waters'. You're doing great on the piano for only 6 months. Keep up the good work.
Some of the drum fills felt a bit unnecessary to my ears, especially on the main "verses", bus it is very personal taste. And I agree with Richard that the vocals are at times eclipsed by the piano which is sad, because IMO, what shine the most on your songs are your lyrics. Make them loud and clear !

Beautiful and peaceful river, I wish I could spend time there one day in the real life, but for now, your music transports me there, and i can almost hear the gentle sound of the water flowing. Thank you for sharing.

Great track, John. Not sure I want to visit those Fjords though, pretty scary. Could have been part of the Midsommar soundtrack, have you seen it?

Sorry posted in wrong thread before.
Work in progress. Needs an ending.
All done on iPad. Logic, Auria, gadget, weepingwall, Klevgrand percussion ones, the brush one, Shaka, luxe, timeless, scatterbrained, perforator, Hilda,

All done in bed on phones cos I’m forever sick and feverish these days.
    Anyway it’s called MyCokaine

Great track! We all need a dose of MichaelCaine to survive on the dancefloors!

My monthly submission: It's a ambient downtempo jazzy(?) fusion(?) composition.

    Some notes on this one:

    • all done in Logic Pro. Well, it's not perfect and it's pricey but it's the best DAW in IOS right now imho. The "auto drummer" is great and some of the internal instruments (I used Sculpture for the flute) are stunning. And the effects are also impressive (love ChromaVerb).
    • why didn't I buy Spacefields before?! Such a great and fun reverb, I love it on almost everything, drums included
    • there is a little bit of Patterning 3 in there :o

As usual with you, fireworks of intricate sounds for our ears. I always love how seamless the soundscape evolves in your tracks. Beautiful work. I especially like the drop around 2:30. Pristine production as usual! Thanks for sharing!

Hey there, I woke up this morning with something in my head and tried to play it first on my IPhone for the generic idea then finalized it on Ableton. One of these day where “the flow” catch you the whole time. Hope you like it

Great work. You used the vocals synth engine in a more human way compared to the previous tracks you shared. Great job

Thank you. I didn’t realise the track was quite that scary. It’s cool that it can evoke any emotion, even if that emotion is ‘aaarrrggghhh!’ ;-)

Or sends cold shivers down your spine. That would be ultra cool! Figuratively.

I haven’t seen Midsommar, no. I’ll add it to the list.

  • @JanKun thank you for the encouragement. I’m concentrating on the piano at the expense of the mix it would seem - that’s my focus at the moment for sure. Your comments are much appreciated 😀
