  • Great, thanks @Gavinski ! I'll play around with different permutations.
I know you've done an HB vid already,...but if you did a super short vid demonstrating what you've just said, I'd be eternally grateful. Especially the Rozeta Scaler bit - not entirely sure what you mean by that.
Don't worry if not! I would imagine that personalised requests like that are Patreon-only territory :)

I went ahead and made a quick one for you, no talking, but hopefully the matrix etc will help you see the midi routing and you a figure it out in AUM. You can see that at the beginning, each instance of midiGATEs is playing completely different notes from the other, then near the end I go in and play around with it more flexibly. I also ended up pitching both instances of Rozeta scaler down an octave here, but you could do whatever sounds good in the given situation. Hope it helps Kashi, cheers

  • You, kind sir, are a fucking star.

    Thanks @Gavinski

  • Hi!

I'm taking note of what you're all saying, plus I'm making some changes and adding things to the manual since some things aren't obvious at first glance, like for example holding down on a parameter acts like a right mouse click, showing various options like MIDI learn...

I definitely see that there are things that could be improved, like for example the size of the arrows on the parameters which are too small, or having a keyboard pop up when you press and hold a parameter.

I've also read here that it would be interesting to open the "spectator mode" in a separate window, this is an option I've had in mind for a while and I think it could be very interesting, I'll see what I can do.

By the way, thanks so much for the messages of support and for backing this project.

No worries - by the way, I am not saying this is a particularly musical demo of this technique lol. It isn’t and I didn’t have time to far around making it musical, that’s the hard part. This is just to show the routing!

Also - tweaking midi gates, I wasn’t paying attention to the notes. Some of the sliders I put up at times might have made no difference as they were not actually notes in the C minor scale that Harmony Bloom was putting out. Just to give a quick idea of the way you can play with sliders

Hi, I was the one who originally mentioned the spectator window. Someone else suggested a separate window, but what I was actually asking about is if it could be set so that the sphere/spiral graphic could be output solo, without interface via airplay or hdmi connection… so that you have all the controls on your iPad, but the output via airplay/hdmi is only the “spectator” graphic.

The video app Lumafusion can do this, ie. You have your edit controls on your device, but the edited video is displayed externally without interface, but the interface is displayed on the iPad/iphone.

The video animation app called Tagtool does this as well, ie. Shows the graphic and animation you’re creating via external display, while you still have the interface on your iPad making live changes to the external interface-free display.

I suppose sending to another window could work fine too, but the aforementioned is what I was initially inquiring about.

Edit: it would be nice to be able to use the sounds included in Harmony Bloom standalone, when it’s hosted as AUv3 as well :)

I'm having trouble controlling HB through MIDI CCs in AUM. I have assigned a CC message, e.g. 31, to one of the TRIGGERBAR parameters and set that to the correct channel and to Cycle. What I expect when I send the CC message is that the trigger should activate/deactivate but I get no reaction from HB.

If I assign the same CC and send the same message to the INVERT DIRECTION parameter it works as expected.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

This is a great recipe, but you could also just send the separate midi outs for HB to different synths, right?

    .

  • Wasn't it established earlier though that that's a desktop only feature? On iOS currently there is only 1 midi out per instance, right? > @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr said:

  • @MarioNieto I think it might be interesting to have a global time quantize option that obeys the the quantize offset. So you could turn on speed offset to get the cool evolving patterns but the notes get quantized/snapped. May allow more coherent randomness and less total chaos?

Mario confirmed today that the Octave setting per Trigger Bar (like desktop) will be available in a future iOS update

Oh nice, are there other ways of transposing notes?

    Multi-midi channels should be do-able.

Understood, thanks. I don't have it yet.

Quick heads up that I now have a 15-min spoken walkthrough on this on my YT channel. And this one is actually nice and musical, haha. It’s completely different from what I posted here earlier, and everything is throughly shown and explained, including all routing.

I no longer post my vids here on the ABF, for various reasons connected to the YouTube algo etc, but you know where to find it!

Looking forward to it. Anyone who reads this forum will want to subscribe to Gavinski's channel.

Imaginando’s “VS - Visual Synthesizer” app has these capabilities also; the “break-out” HDMI display out.

With just a tap, you can send only the beautiful visual parts to HDMI, and keep all of the controls on the iPad in front of you.

And that’s a huge YES @MarioNieto, this is something I think we would all LOVE to have with Harmony Bloom! 🙏

I don’t know what you call it Mario, but the visual swirly thing in the center of Harmony Bloom is a thing of beauty, which I’m sure you already know. A real work of art!

I think alternatively to quantisers and midi gates, you could just also host multiple instances of Harmony Bloom in AUM and just use the Octave Transpose and Note Min/Note Max settings already in Harmony Bloom (below the main graphic) to adjust what range of notes goes to each instrument.

You can, sure - but it is nowhere near as interesting an option for live performance as midiGATEs is, with its various types of note filtering. This is mostly covered in the second half of my vid. MidiGATEs is just a fantastic tool for this kind of thing!

    +1 ^this

  • Think I must be missing something really basic here…

I’m trying to create a MIDI file (from the standalone version). I start a sequence playing, hit the MIDI Capture button, let it go for a bit, then turn Capture off, hit the MIDI export button. It lets me select a file name and location, but when I go and look at the saved file, it’s 0 bytes and there’s nothing in it.

Really fun app otherwise, btw! :)

This is a great idea, but it would be ideal if HB had this natively. For example with Neon Sequencer, you can have modifiers for octave and transposition.

@MarioNieto you created a fantastic piece of software. Sounds and looks nice. One improvement I can see is bigger fonts in the UI. Specially in the plugin I find the text very difficult to read.

Yes, I find the font to be very challenging to make out. A little larger, please?

Trying out the excellent HarmonyBloom as a standalone on my iPad, I’m facing the same issue. I have HarmonyBloom’s program folder set to be on iCloud, but it’s nowhere listed on my iPad. It’s invisible. When I did a search for it, it appeared supposedly in OnMyiPad instead of iCloud, and it appears to be empty, even though I did save several Midi Captures. However, in actuality, it will not appear on either Program Lists in iCloud or OnMyiPad, so I am unable to access the program folder.

  • Mine is making MIDI files and letting me save them where I want, but there’s nothing in them.
