Harmony Bloom - New Midi Magic Generator (Standalone and AUv3)

  • Tried it now and Kaspar is one of those synths, I picked up, because how couldn't I, if it only costs a buck, and then never really dug into.

I find it pretty cool, although I wish I could lock the midi channels, because every time I change a preset, global or just a layer, I have to reassign. No problem, if you want to start from scratch or save the global preset, once you're done tweaking.

  • I played a bit with Kaspar and harmony bloom and this came out (not much happening, but I like it)

Is there a synth on iOS that can send out multiple patches, on different channels, from one instance, like Omnisphere?

    LayR is a beast…

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/layr-multi-timbral-synthesizer/id1155825562

It’s got complexity inside its complexity though…

LayR can't do this can it?! ie. you can send midi to various preset/patches within just one instance of LayR?

    Yes

Oh cool 😎 !!! Indeed you can! I never knew this. Works perfect and was pretty easy to set up. Thanks!!! :)

👍 How many patches/channels can you select in Layr, could you screenshot the mixer for us?

This could be a perfect partner.

In Mario’s examples you can actually get some great sounding things going with just 3 patches/channels. It’s all about the sounds - less is more etc

I think as many as your device can handle. Here’s a screenshot of my session from last night with 5 patches assigned different midi channels and each played by HB:

Couldn't really hear it but will have another look when I'm home. Good to know there are other options, could you show a mixer screenshot showing the multi channel settings as @skiphunt did?

Yes, the video turned out to be nearly silent in some places, it sounded alright in headphones while I did it. It doesn’t really show much either, it was just fun to do and in the moment it seemed like a good idea to upload, still I like it.

I guess this is what you want to see, it’s from the standalone, but it’s just the same in the AU (minus the keyboard):

  • I haven’t figured out how to assign a different preset to each synth in Kasper, but I edited 3 of the synths and assigned midi channels to each… sending to those channels via HB. Similar to LayR:

I can’t check right now, but I think it was in the edit page on the left you have a column with all the layers. If you longpress the layers you get a menu then you pick the meta preset and then you pick the individual layer from the meta preset for your layer. Not entirely sure if it was on the edit page and hope my description makes sense, when you see it.

Yes! That’s it. Long press. I didn’t necessarily need to be able do that right now, but it was driving me absolutely insane that I couldn’t figure it out. I watched/skimmed 3 demo vids and the manual and couldn’t find this specific instruction. Thank you 🙏

  • @skiphunt cheers. Not the most intuitive synth, just played for an hour with it this morning, still a lot to figure out, I'm curious about the morph feature.

Yes, lots of similarities with LayR, but I think LayR may go deeper. Both great synth apps though… but yeah… just not the most intuitive (putting it mildly) ;)

Just had a quick read of the appstore description of LayR... Up to 128 (polyphonic?) layers each with wavefolders and 2 loopable envelopes... Wow yeah, that sounds like it could get a little complex.

In my opinion… LayR is worth the price for the included presets alone… even if you never learn how to design your own at all. It really sounds amazing. The same dev did the also excellent Auditor editor. Both have been updated in the last several months, so I’m guessing they’re still being supported.

I don’t think there’s as complete synth workstation/performance oriented synth on iOS than LayR.
One of the only things missing is a chord mode (ie chord sets) for the keyboard.

Well, isn't that UI a simple thing of beauty - I don't have Layr myself but, if I remember correctly, it was very atmospheric so I'm sure it'll work well with HB. I'm hoping Mela can send multiple sounds/channels too. Not near a device to confirm yet.

Hopefully people will call out other iOS instruments that can do this. Whilst it's easy enough to get a single instance of HB to play multiple instruments in AUM (not Cubasis), there's something about a single HB instance triggering multiple sounds in a single multi channel instrument - frees the mind (and cpu) for playing and recording the additional accompanying tracks.

Beathawk and Sampei are both multitimbral. Load up different samples or sound fonts respectively and go to town!

  • IM1’s Combo settings are multitimbral and should be amazing with the new Harmony Bloom update, can’t wait!

Thanks for the suggestions. Will check them out.

Slight delay to the HB iPad update. @MarioNieto has a 🐞 to squash before releasing the update 👍

But the good news is that Mario is considering a iPhone version of Harmony Bloom.

Yes just saw that! He said ‘seriously considering’, ‘but I’d like to run some tests first’ 😉

Correct! So you also viewing the live session on YT?

  • Harmony Bloom 1.2.6 is now available in the app store :)

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/harmony-bloom/id6480587217

Also today, I'll be live creating music with Harmony Bloom 1.2.6 - If you feel like it, drop by and say hi.

    https://youtube.com/live/ML7ZvTmnA88?feature=share

    What' s new?

    • NEW: Now in the AUv3 version, Trigger Bars can be mapped to be sent through different independent MIDI channels. Additionally, it is possible to select the octave for each trigger bar independently. IMPORTANT NOTE: Not all DAWs can handle internal multi-channel MIDI routing. So depending on the DAW you use, multi-channel sending internally may not be possible.

    • NEW: Bypass. When active, all incoming MIDI signals pass through Harmony Bloom unaffected, effectively bypassing its processing. It's equivalent to disabling the plugin.

    • NEW: Added new Custom Colors for Dots. Customize the appearance of dots (notes on the spiral) with your choice of colors, enhancing visual feedback and personalizing your user experience.

    • NEW: The header colors now match the selected colors.

    • Now, various playback controls, like the midi keyboard mode, have the option active to maintain the state through preset changes by default.

    • UI Changes and corrections.

    • FIXED: MIDI mappings for the trigger bars were not working correctly.

    • FIXED: Fixed issue with correct loading using factory presets, quantize offset was loaded a value below the original.

    • FIXED: The 'Save Preset' panel has been moved upward to prevent it from being covered by the keyboard when typing in the fields.

    • FIXED: When exporting MIDI files, the created file was empty.

  • YES! So excited to explore this. Thanks @MarioNieto for such a killer app 🙏🏼

  • Hmm, weird; I updated, then opened AUM, opened a midi channel...Harmony Bloom nowhere to be seen. Shut down ipad and restarted, same thing....It's vanished.
I opened HB standalone too, before opening AUM
    Any thoughts @MarioNieto ?

  • First of all, hello to everyone in this great forum.

I just did the update and unfortunately the AUv3 integration no longer works. For example, the app cannot be found in AUM or Cubasis. It has simply disappeared. Even when I open saved projects in AUM, I get an error message regarding the Harmony Bloom app.

It's such a beautiful sequencer, it would be nice if this bug could be fixed.

  • Indeed.... I made a mistake on my end and that's why Harmony bloom isn't showing up as AUv3. I've fixed it and I'm uploading the new version right now.

Please wait a bit, I don't think it will take more than 24h-48h hours to be available.

    Sorry :cold_sweat:

  • Yess.. it was my mistake... the fixed version is on its way and I hope it won’t take long. Once it's available, everything should work normally.

Your app is fantastic and very creative👍

    Did you reboot your iPad?
(This is sometimes needed after installing AUv3 apps).

Seems to be gone even after restart maybe @MarioNieto has a solution for this?
(My guess is a new build is needed)

  • Yeah same issue as the two posts above w/ Loopy Pro. I have closed out both the Loopy and Harmony and have restarted my ipad, the AUv3 plug is not found. Standalone works great though!

    Hello Samu,

I rebooted my iPad, deleted the app and reinstalled it. Unfortunately, nothing worked. But Mario seems to have found the error☺️
