The ‘released’ in the title is a real windup…

Was there since the desktop release..fixed, apologies

  • I have it on desktop. So far I mostly like it for glitchy electronic drums. I prefer Microtonic for 'normal' synth drums, but Battalion does complement it nicely adding a lot of sounds that Microtonic can't make. It's especially good for the weird and wonderful sounds you tend to have to use sparingly in a track.

The internal sequencer can do one though. Battalion doesn't seem to want you to use it using your DAWs sequencer and every preset loads with the sequencer ON. Until recently it would turn the sequencer back on every time you launched your project too but at least that's fixed now.

If you like nasty, dirty and filthy drums you're going to love Battalion. The randomiser is great for making special fx percussion sounds that wouldn't sound out of place in a SAW movie.

  • Several comments comparing to OneShot but this seems closer to Drum Computer to me. I’ll be more interested to see how those two compare.

I know Nino! It wasn’t meant as a dig in any way. Just me being too excitable when I see the word released

  • i've actually strayed a bit away from iOS production recently, lured by my hardware rather than repelled by anything iOS-related...but the Drambo update and Battalion seem likely to lure me right back in B)

I don't know why, but this looks more attractive to me than One Shot. I like the interface and how people are creating unique drum patterns.
I love what this guy is doing to make one from scratch:

I think they're aiming for very different markets and use cases.

Battalion does look sick, I'm very excited. I don't see much coming close to what OneShot offers me for fingerdrumming anytime soon, though

Oh - that's interesting. You can fingerdrum on OneShot? That's pretty cool.
What are the big differences between the two markets? I'm not that informed on drum machines (or do you call it drum computing?)

OneShot isn’t a drum-machine type plug-in. It is velocity-layered sample player designed for drum kits. It has a wealth of features like round-robin to increase the realism of playing multi-sampled drum kits. It includes a library of high-quality drum and percussion kits. It has no sequencer.

Thank you. That is much clearer for me: "velocity-layered sample player" without a sequencer.
There was so much talk about OneShot, I was tempted to buy it, but I can see now that it would be a mismatch for my needs. Must be why I'm attracted to this Battalion more.

  • @Goldiblockz : Finger drumming via pad controller or straight from the iPad?

Pad controller. There's no pad style trigger interface in OneShot! It works well with something like Velocity Keyboard though with a couple settings tweaks.

  • wait? Batallion is coming to iOS? when? I see this original post is from April.....

Also I see the ongoing sale for the desktop VST was lifted and the price is back to $199 :( was going to buy that soon

I got it for $29 + tax (with free copy of their Lion synth too).

I would never pay more than $29 for anything from PA. you can usually get them for much less. But not quite as often as before the venture capitalists took over.

how did you get it for $29? it is on the short list of items not available for any of the plugin alliance deals

    e.g.:
    1. Add 2, 3, or 4 plugins to your cart
    2. Insert voucher code PICK2, PICK3, or PICK4
    3. Get your bundle deal

    Excluded from promotion:

Black Box Analog Design HG-Q, Bettermaker C502V, Bettermaker Passive Equalizer, Unfiltered Audio Battalion, Native Instruments Guitar Rig 7 Pro, all plugins from: ADPTR AUDIO, Three-Body Technology, iZotope; all PA_EXT products.

I’d forgotten about this. I got a $75 loyalty voucher from someone, then stacked it with another plugin to get a further 30% off. You can often get PA voucher codes online for free.

    Worked out $29.29 + 20%VAT = £28.39

It also came with unfiltered audio Lion for free.

People also sell their ‘Forever $29’ vouchers online too.

Wow that is a steal. I got LION back in 2020 for $29 on PA. It is a wonderful, highly underrated synth. It has such a raw/distorted/unruly sound. I wrote most of my album Joy using LION (and some Omnisphere). See https://thetinbox.bandcamp.com/album/joy

  • Yeah, I wish it was available now at the intro price because I missed the early bird offer.

  • Anyone got any ideas when it’s due for release?

So it IS the year of the drum machines…

Not until LUMbeat apps are back on the market as auv3.

  • I’m excited for this, hurry up! 🤣 but also really wish Sandman Pro would make it to iOS, been using it so much for interesting guitar delay on desktop

I don’t really know much about this one, but a few quick glances on YouTube, seems like it can do some nice glitchy sequences
