And That was made with patterning?

Yeah the drum sounds and the sequence are from Patterning, and the reverb effect is Spacefields.

Also I agree on your last post about the engagement, same goes for @matdun25848834 I'd say.

Oh yeah, I had him on ignore as I think he has done it before . So def. In fact, that’s why I didn’t comment on his post, and I’ll remove my feedback for the other guys….

No one is going to stop you from posting in this thread but If you don’t leave feedback , don’t expect any.

Some people wait until the end of the month to respond. I'd personally prefer it if they joined in more as things are posted rather than post all the feedback in one lump as it encourages a bit more discourse. But at least they do listen eventually.

I personally find it a bit strange when people come back to comment on their own feedback, yet still can't take the time to comment on anybody else's music. It's not like this is the only place to post, especially if you don't like/can't be bothered commenting on other people's music :-)

  • I kind of dip in and out. In all honesty I try and listen to everything properly.
When I listen to things, i like to take my time with it. I’m sure a lot of you will know what I mean when I say I hear the parts individually or the whole thing when I want to. I didn’t know for a long time a lot of folks can’t. I like to rewind bits and work out what I like and don’t like. I listen on different systems when I can. I enjoy hearing new music, your music.
So when I can’t do that, I’m not going to.

Unfortunately, when it comes to my own stuff, I struggle to unfocus. I get distracted by parts and struggle to take a step back and hear the whole thing. That’s what I need you guys for.

I’m often unsure about commenting. So I get why others wouldn’t. I’m not a great mixer, I am not the most technically gifted producer, i spend a ridiculous amount of time doing things my daw would do instantly if I just learned how. So why would anything I say matter?

But I do anyway, because by doing so, it might help. I try and relate things to what I know, but sometimes it’s not something I’m as familiar with. In which case I’d feel even weirder.

So with that in mind @unlink I really liked the track. Especially, the harmonic, resonance, drone tones that play against the piano. Wasn’t expecting the percussion and it works so well. I’m going to be playing your track tomorrow before I get my blood pressure checked 👍

Otherwise your not IN the SOTMC your just leaving songs for us to listen to , which if that’s the case, just leave it in creations in your own thread man . It’s fine whatever you choose but the first post clearly states you are supposed to not just have us listen to your work and give feedback but also expect it from you .

    Original

The remix works really well, with the music perfectly complementing the vocal, it's a nice blend of indie and electronic vibes. The artifacts on the voice just add to the feel, in a good way.

The percussion is great, as is the bass, and the arrangement is well thought out.

  • I’m all for reminding folks about the norms in this thread. The typical song poster in music forums is selfish IMO. In my experience, the ratio of songs reviewed to returned favors is at least 10 to 1. Not on this thread. I do appreciate your zen attitude @richardyot 🙂

    I understand - it’s all good

    Keep posting

  • Thanks for the kind feedback on my track,Billionaire conscience.

I don’t know whether it’s directed at me, but I will take time this weekend to listen and comment back on other tracks in the thread, it’s just been full on at work these last 2 weeks - and as you would have seen I mainly post to the creations main area, and I’ve made lots of feedback on that forum

Sorry if I’ve offended anyone, it’s not my intention.

My submission for the month. I wanted to post another track but I'm not really sure about that one so I'll ask for your opinion.

It's an electronic/ambient track, I experimented a bit with vocal choirs and new apps (Nerd Synth). God I love distortion effects so much :D Also Patterning 3 is a really great piece of software.

I really like this, the backwards-sounding patch is excellent, and the keys melody is great. The whole arrangement is really interesting and flows well, and the vibe is beautifully atmospheric. Great job.

Very atmospheric and haunting. The melody is really nice and the atmospheric textures weave in and out nicely. I like the drums too, it would have been easy to overdo it but you’ve kept it subtle.

Yes the whole point here is to give mutual feedback, that's really the purpose of the club, so that we've not just posting into the void.

I have in the past been more pushy and angry with contributors who don't play by the rules, but the SOTMC has been going almost 10 years now and I've come to accept that there will always be a few who don't play nice.

Are you kidding dude? What you say matters whether it’s a little nugget or a long paragraph. Even just “this moved me” or “I liked the keys at 2:14” is enough. It’s not about your ability to analyze and critique, it’s more about the creator knowing or hearing what effect it had on you. Calling out technical processes or showing off your knowledge of a synth isn’t the point - the point is just enjoying that someone else hears your creation and what did that evoke? What did your work touch inside of that person and draw out? And i agree, thanks for sharing and contributing . Your comment doesn’t need to be special or enlightening , just let us know how you feel about the track. So what you say matters , but regardless, please continue making music and posting with SOTMC!

Richard’s zen attitude and passion for the arts is inspiring as well, and I thank him for SOTMC and for his hard work, (And Big shout out to Klownshed as well as he has been a major supporter and very helpful with my SOTMC/productions too.)

    My entry for the month,

Very nice, voice goes perfectly with the song and I really like the synth/guitar patch on the intro and mid break. Are the combos of built in iPad sounds/external ? Some really interesting chord changes as well

I just wished I had a voice to do more vocal tracks :)

Here's my entry, from my Burnt Earth project with my old bandmate Steve. It's another orchestral slab of misery.

Liked this one, melancholic but kept me engaged, nice change 1minute 30 seconds in, and there’s some lovely overlapping strings and Melodys.

This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the bassoon, oboe, violin, and flute; Dolce for the basses; and Omnisphere, ZebraHZ, and Alchemy for the other instruments.

After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.

    It's titled Beneath the Trees.

Beautiful and soothing, with an occasional undertone of “menace”.

Morning all. Here’s my May offering

Full on synth and it’s mainly about the Melodies in the chorus. All done within Logic pro iOS with a mix of inbuilt patches and iM1. I created the video using a mix of google earth studio, some drone footage and basically staring 80s New Romantic style into the camera :) - edited within davinci resolve.

    Hope you enjoy

Wow Mat, this is great - looks like you’re down there in Portland! The music is melancholic, almost threatening in nature, and very beautiful. Really good track. I felt that the drums could have done with more ‘oomph’ to drive it along, but that’s just my slant on things, it’s great as it stands.

Then there’s the video - it matches the music perfectly. Menacing!

Thanks for your nice words about my track - especially appreciate the nod to my vocals, cheers!

I thought you were heading for my house at the start before veering down to Portland at the last second! There are apparently a fair amount of tunnels and bunkers in Portland, maybe just beneath the drone footage. I read that they used to transfer munitions underground from the cordite factories around Wareham/Portland. Anyway….

I like the anthemic synths and melody, nice big synth sounds and a cool atmosphere. Gives me early 80s sci-fi TV show vibes. Airwolf spring to mind but that might be due to the drone footage lol.

Voice and guitar are obviously external, and I don't tend to use iOS amp sims the so the guitar tone is from a Strymon Iridium pedal, but delays and modulation are in the box (usually Other Desert Cities, Super VHS, and FAC Medusa).

All the rest is done in Logic for iPad using the usual array of apps. The synth in the intro is Zeeon.

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

When you fight you stand your ground
You don’t give in or turn around
    You won’t let me answer
    I have to concede

    And I found
    When you are around
The things you say the things you do
All the words that don’t ring true

    How
    Can you be so wrong?
    You thought you would never
    Be the only one

    Tell me why again
I don’t know what or when
What is it you want feel?
What is it is it for real?

You and I we’ve been around
I’ve kept my ear close to the ground
So I know you’re not quite
    The man you believe

    And I found
    When you stare me down
The things unsaid between us two
The words you speak that don’t ring true

    How
    Can you be so wrong?
    You thought you would never
    Be the only one

Hi I'm new to audiobus forum and to IOS music making but I stumbled on this Song of the month club last month and think it's a great idea for mutual feedback and not feeling like shouting into the void. Last months song of yours I slightly preferred but both are of high quality, they are also a bit 'annoying' :-) in that my mind is trying to place them as something I have heard and known during the eighties and I know well..but...I don't, but it feels like I do (think this is a compliment) and I keep trying to place them and can't because I don't!!

...This one does seem to have borrowed some notes from wicked games separate from the eighties mystery song....good stuff.

Another one featuring my fledgling piano playing…it’s quite scary being this exposed!!

    The Man In The Restaurant

He’s stone cold sober, he walks in quite alone
Diners raise their gazes, his head, tilts to check his phone
Takes a table in the corner, pulls his chair in tight
He catches no one’s eyes stares out the window, into the black of night

The man in the restaurant, his story untold, behind his
Fixed smile someone ran off with his soul, don’t you know that
The man in the restaurant he’s dying inside, as he fights
Memories pretending he’s nothing to hide

A foreign waitress politely asks “Sir, will you be dining tonight”?
He orders from the a la carte and a single glass of white wine
He’s still, he waits and a circle of tension weaves around his table
Inside his head, it’s exploding with his thoughts, and he’d run if he felt able

Without warning he jumps to his feet, storms past discerning diners
Demands to see the maitre d’, though the food could not be finer
Arms raised in front of blood shot face “Sir, are you alright”?

Don't think you have anything to worry about regarding the piano playing, you put expression, emotion and a certain rawness into it...do not lose this as you get more technically proficient. Last months, I listened to three times on the trot just to listen to the build up and chorus, reminded me of one of the tracks from Tommy by the Who. Definitely a musical theatre vibe to your work, good storytelling.

I think Wicked Game might come to mind because of the falsetto note at the start of the chorus, but luckily for me it's not the same melody. :)

Beautiful high quality production. Perfect for a short meditation and stillness. As a song/general listening I would have liked some more movement, perhaps whispers/violin scrapings or etc etc....flowing in and out of the stereo field from left and right leaving the solid substance of the track but floating around barely touching.

    And here's mine...

A short piece based on quick experiment with Spacecraft and some voice samples.

Went for a lighter summery oceanic vibe instead of my usual darker tone. Had fun with the visuals too

Production not on par with the other entries here, but hey B)

Like this...some Lemon Jelly vibes going on. Perhaps the attack on the piano needs a little smoothing to balance with the rest of the track and not overpower it. If you've not got it I'd recommend you downloading Xinematix as I feel you would be able to incorporate some of the many sounds into your work.

Had to listen a couple of times as I wasn't sure what to make of this one. Second time it made me think of 'Love makes you crazy' by Mike Batt which was a part of an eighties sci fi musical, zero zero. Not sure why because it very different but it felt like it would fit in as part of it. :-)

    “Check reality”

Pardon my break in commenting and delay in posting mine. But here it is for May.

produced on TE OP-1 Field - Mastered in Logic Pro for IPad 2

Smooth and relaxing...or 'gently nice' as my partner has just commented from the other room. Interesting movement/development throughout, could be longer, I would personally have turned the drums down just a tad.

Grows on me with more listening, I like the dystopian vibe when watched with the video, although the music almost seems to be too upbeat...but it also feels threatening as well so it works. The contrasting volumes and the build ups give interesting dynamic range. Nice package.

Listening in a club environment this would not be out of place, I actually preferred the instrumental interludes to the vocal parts. Listening to the original I much preferred the vocals, it feels the stem splitting removed the breathiness and nuance of his voice.
